We’ve built a Primary Science Teacher College of over 200 outstanding teachers; each helping to shape and influence science teaching across the UK. We produce great resources that improve how science is taught and planned. We organise engaging professional learning events for teachers, and work with partner organisations to further enhance how science is taught. Our 2023-28 strategy is building on these strengths to reach more teachers across a more diverse range of schools.

We’re dedicating our most intensive efforts to areas of the UK requiring most development in primary science. Our Priority Areas initiative is being piloted in 30 schools, and in September 2025 we plan to launch this programme in a further 30 schools. Our Regional Mentors have worked with more than 3,000 schools across England, with exceptionally positive feedback.

Job summary

There are two parts to the Primary Science Mentor role. The majority of the role will focus on strengthening primary science teaching and leadership by leading our second Priority Areas initiative. Through their knowledge of and passion for primary science education, the successful candidate will inspire transformational change in schools taking part in this project. They will build close working relationships with participating schools and create a vibrant and exciting learning community based on mutual support and the sharing of expertise.

The remaining hours in the role will be as a Regional Mentor: joining PSTT’s growing team of primary science experts who provide bespoke support directly to individual schools, multi-academy trusts and other school groupings and organisations. This includes developing and delivering training in a variety of contexts, including online; working individually with Science Leaders; being a leading voice, expert and advocate for primary science (both regionally and nationally); and creating partnerships with other organisations that support science within the region.

A crucial part of the role is to ensure collection of appropriate data for both Priority Areas and Regional Mentor activities, so that we can evaluate our work against intended outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Collaborative Strategy Execution: Works closely with the UK Managing Director, incorporating programmatic priorities for developing key funding partnerships, to align and execute the trusts and foundations fundraising strategy.
• Strategic Growth & Income Diversification: Supports the development of and executes a growth strategy to increase trust and foundation income, leveraging both existing and new opportunities, including institutional fundraising and government funding where relevant.
• Prospecting & Pipeline Development: Proactively identifies, researches, and cultivates new trust and foundation prospects to expand the current portfolio and drive significant new revenue growth in alignment with fundraising targets.
• Relationship Management & Stewardship: Establishes, nurtures, and manages strong relationships with trust and foundation donors, ensuring tailored engagement, timely reporting, and strategic alignment with donor priorities to maximize long-term support.
• Proposal & Fund Development: Leads the development and submission of compelling funding proposals to generate revenue, while ensuring collaboration with the global proposal development enablement function for high-value (£100k+) opportunities. Edits concepts, proposals, pitch decks and stewardships materials. 
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Works closely with WBR’s global Development & Marcomm and proposal development team to source insights, data, and programmatic information that strengthen proposals and enhance donor engagement, ensuring UK efforts align with international fundraising strategies.

About the role:

You will lead and support a team of Homicide Family Caseworkers to meet VS and Homicide Service standards and contractual requirements. The family caseworkers provide in person support to families who have experienced the sudden and traumatic death by Homicide (Murder/Manslaughter/Corporate manslaughter/Gross Negligence manslaughter). The Family Caseworkers also offer specialist support to direct Eyewitnesses of Homicide. They provide a systematic, trauma informed approach to care and undertake a comprehensive needs assessment which will create a bespoke support plan for each person they support. The caseworkers are responsible for ensuring the needs identified are met, that each person being supported receives guidance, advise and practical support as well as emotional support and advocacy. You will be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills essential to managing a diverse workload, and be committed to supporting the caseworkers to deliver support.

We pride ourselves on providing exceptional trauma informed advocacy and support to all and you will have an understanding of the impact that trauma and bereavement can have on individuals. We support staff to keep them safe within their role and you will lead on the importance of personal and professional resilience and wellbeing for the team.

Operations Manager - Support Services (Mental Health)

We offer a wide range of services - from those delivered in partnership with the NHS and Birmingham City Council, through to support to marginalised communities.

This role will be responsible for the Operational Management of three contracts: 

Birmingham Mind’s Vulnerable Adults Services are funded by Birmingham City Council and provide mental health support to the citizens of Birmingham by helping them in their own homes and providing supported accommodation for those in serious need. 

Intensive Community Rehabilitation Team (ICRT) is co-located with clinical staff from Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust (BSMHT). The service works closely with commissioners, other NHS professionals, and service users to offer an alternative to inpatient rehabilitation, especially to Community Recovery Units, to facilitate the early discharge of existing rehabilitation inpatients locally. 

Our Operations Managers work at a strategic and managerial level, supporting the service managers, working closely with Birmingham Mind’s Senior Leadership Team, and maintaining productive relationships with commissioners and related roles. 

A successful candidate will possess excellent leadership and communication skills, and significant experience of beneficiary involvement. This role will suit someone who enjoys variety and challenge in their work, with no two days the same. The successful applicant will be working in a team of people passionate about delivering the best mental healthcare and support.

How are staff supported to work remotely? 
VoiceAbility has a small number of offices. Employees including Team Leaders are homebased for Administration and meetings will be held online as well as in person in the relevant community. 
When you need to travel for work, expenses will be paid (mileage or public transport costs).  
VoiceAbility offers the usual regular manager one to ones, Staff forums and communities of practice depending on role. Team meetings with a mix of virtual and in person approach.
