Job description

Plan International UK is a global children’s charity, working across more than 80 countries to deliver long-term development programmes, respond to emergencies and campaign with young people on issues that matter to them. They call on governments to do more to protect children’s rights, recognising that poverty, violence and discrimination still holds back millions of children and that these inequalities disproportionally affect girls. Plan International UK strives for an equal world. One where every child can reach their full potential and every girl can choose her own future.

The Talent Set are delighted to be working with Plan International UK to recruit a Retention & Stewardship Lead, focused on leading and delivering a step change in how the organisation holistically considers its supporters. With an emphasis on the supporter experience, this role will lead a team of 7 (3 direct reports) to identify cross-sell opportunities and ultimately increase the lifetime value and commitment of its supporters.

Plan International UK currently benefits from c.66,000 sponsors, c.42,000 campaigners and a wealth of regular supporters. You’ll lead the retention team to identify and consider the potential crossover of these audiences, fostering meaningful relationships and supporter journeys that maximise retention and support income growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Retention & Stewardship team, establishing a collaborative team culture focused on innovation, creativity and continuous improvement to establish great supporter experiences.
  • Foster a multi product, multi channel approach - overseeing email, direct amil, SMS and other key channels to ensure a seamless donor experience across all areas.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of integrated supporter engagement strategies – maximising the loyalty and support of existing supporters to increase their lifetime value.
  • Oversee a breadth of products - from child sponsorship to legacies, influencing campaigns and emergency appeals. You'll create cross-sell and upsell strategies for various audience segments, promoting additional giving opportunities and introducing supporters to the wider areas of the charity's work.
  • Manage the income/expenditure budgets effectively, allocating resources optimally to achieve maximum growth and ROI.
  • Oversee legacy marketing and strategy - offering ongoing stewardship to establish deeper relationships that allow this income stream to build further.
  • Adopt a "digital first" type of approach - recognising the significant potential for growth within this space.

Person Specification:

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful retention and stewardship strategies with a multi channel, multi product approach.
  • Strong background in data-driven activity, with experience of effective segmentation, targeting and optimisation to maximise ROI.
  • Effective team leader, able to build and develop high performing teams and motivate them to succeed.
  • Experienced in managing complex multi-product supporter journeys, maximising ROI by ensuring resource is invested effectively across multiple campaigns and different audience segments.
  • Committed to Plan International UK’s position on promoting girls’ rights and gender equality, diversity and inclusion and anti-racism and integrating this into all aspects of your work.

To be considered for this position please apply with your CV as soon as possible, the deadline for applications is Wednesday 7th August. Regrettably please note we may not be able to reply to each and every application.

We are committed to diverse and inclusive recruitment practises that ensure equal opportunity for everyone, regardless of race, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, age or gender. We encourage applications from all backgrounds and will happily make reasonable adjustments to always ensure a fair process.
