Cancer52 is a national organisation, created in 2007 by Professor Sir Mike Richards, CBE, then National Clinical Director for Cancer, and registered as a charity in England and Wales in September 2017.
We are an exceptional organisation, providing one voice for all those affected by rare and less common cancers. Historically, these cancers have been underrepresented and under-funded. Today, they represent 47% of people diagnosed with cancer, but 55% of all cancer deaths – a hidden majority. Cancer52’s aim is to change this by taking the collective voice of our members to those who influence cancer policy, research, services and treatment.
Cancer52 is recognised for its strong convening role, bringing together our 115 member charities with organisations in industry, government, the NHS and other stakeholders to address the inequalities faced by patients with rare and less common cancers. Our reputation is strong and we are in a unique position to provide a common voice for these underrepresented cancers. The figures for people with these cancers are challenging and there is much work to do.
After a hugely successful tenure during which Cancer52’s size and influence has grown dramatically, our current CEO is retiring from full time work in July. The Board of Trustees is now seeking to appoint a successor to build on the successes and achievements of recent years.
To be our next Chief Executive, you will be a talented leader, able to motivate and empower others and develop strong internal and external stakeholder relationships. You will also be an inspiring and authentic individual who is passionate, confident and engaging as the key spokesperson of the organisation and a representative of the diverse Cancer52 membership.
You will be capable of influencing decisions at senior levels of government, in the NHS and in partner organisations operating in the fields of cancer research, prevention, diagnosis and treatment. As our Chief Executive, your role is to be a key proponent of the campaigning and influencing drive of the charity, setting the overall strategy and vision for the organisation.
In addition to the core management competencies required, the role requires demonstrable leadership which will inspire others, along with a comprehensive understanding of Cancer52’s purpose and the problems faced by those charities and organisations representing the rare and less common cancer communities.
Effective networking will be a key skill set, and will enable you to actively seek out, engage and establish productive relationships with political decision makers, NHS leadership and charity CEOs to further our goals. Your approach will be collaborative, motivating stakeholders to engage with our work.
Success will be achieved through collective effort, but what will also be fundamental to the achievement of our ambitions will be funding. This is a critical senior role in the organisation, reporting to the CEO. The role is responsible for managing the organisation’s programmes across 3 locations in Sub Saharan Africa and South East Asia, managing 10 personnel. The position provides leadership on community-led investigations and evidence gathering and works closely with the Senior Management Team (SMT) on critical areas including fundraising and strategic development.
The priority for this role is the safe and high quality performance of projects. The balance between ‘doing’ and ‘managing’ in this role varies depending on available resources for each project, and the ability to create competent teams to delegate to.
Location: UK, France or Thailand preferred. Remote applicants considered.
Package: Pay is dependent on location. The UK salary of £62,000 plus pension contribution will be converted using ICSC scales. All locations receive 28 days annual leave, counselling support and annual wellbeing days.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- The development and implementation of strategy and annual plans for the organisation’s direct programming, and its alignment with organisational strategy.
- Responsible for the relevant team’s human resources, staff welfare, safety and security, and risk management.
- The safety and quality of operational practices including data collection on the ground, secure data storage and transfer and proper financial management of the project including procurement practices.
- Responsible for the relevant team’s financial and spending strategy and financial management.
- Ensuring all aspects of the role’s work advances diversity, equality and inclusion.
- Actively contributing networking, ideas and concept note drafting to the Fundraising Team, with a particular focus on building the project funding and teams that will enable this role to grow and evolve.
- Be a member of the Strategic Planning Team and other strategic conversations with SMT and the Management Team, bringing ideas and challenge to move the organisation forward.
- Coordinate closely with the Senior Director – Innovation where areas of work and organisational improvement projects overlap.
Programmes
- Design and oversee the relevant operations and project workplans, ensuring projects are delivered safely and to a high degree of quality.
- Oversight of project’s design, objectives and goals and their budget.
- Cultivate a management culture that is performance-based, supportive and collegial.
- Provide ongoing support and mentoring to direct reports, including through the annual performance review process.
- Work with project teams to jointly identify and make available learning and development opportunities for them and their teams.
- Administrative oversight for projects and their staff, including the review of expenses, annual leave, salary/benefits etc.
- Represent the organisation in relevant areas in relation to programmatic partners such as media, lawyers, diplomats, NGOs and civil society as well as to donors and governments.
- Assist in developing our methodology for investigation and monitoring within projects, including working closely with the Senior Director – Strategy to ensure alignment with the Impact Strategy.
Security and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with organisational policies, safety and security policies and processes.
- Ensure effective risk management for staff and researchers, following organisational policies.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND CHARACTERISTICS
Essential
- Professional writing and speaking in either English or French, with at least effective operational efficiency in the other language (B2 or above).
- Experience managing teams or individuals across multiple international locations.
- An understanding of risk management methodologies and experience applying them.
- An understanding of human rights and a strong belief in their indivisibility and interdependence.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality results.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, including experience working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and building relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

As our new parent adviser you’ll join our wonderful team in Wales as part of our Building Resilience Project.
In this part time, home-based role, you’ll have the opportunity to support and mentor parent carers, helping them develop their skills, knowledge, and confidence to make decisions that are best for their families. You’ll also help create and deliver well-being workshops for parent carers to empower, inform, and reduce their stress and help increase their confidence so they are able to access the benefits they are entitled to. And you’ll work in partnership with money advice organisations across Wales, to set up referrals for parent carers to make sure they get all the financial support they need.

- Experience of working with and supporting families who have disabled children in Wales.

We are seeking a Senior Community Support Worker to join our Newbridge day service in Stockport, which supports adults with Learning Disabilities, Autism and Complex Needs. The Senior Community Support Worker will also work flexibly across two other services based at Newbridge – an evening Youth Club and a Saturday Club for children with complex health needs.
The purpose of the role is to provide high-quality, person-centred support that meets the individuals needs with physical, health, emotional and social needs. You will assist in the development and maintenance of their support plans as required, along with developing positive and engaging interactions.
You will provide line management to a small staff support team, developing their capability through demonstrating the right values and behaviours, mentoring staff and supporting their ongoing development.
Safeguarding vulnerable adults is a priority for all employees within the Trust.
Working Pattern – 37.5 hours per week, worked flexibly over five days. Weekend working will be required.
Starting Salary – £27,590.00 per year (£14.15 per hour) with biennial increments.
Additional Enhancement - weekends paid at 25% premium on the hourly rate.

Support Coordinator
We’re looking for an innovative, passionate, and professional individual with excellent communication and organisational skills to join our Stroke Recovery Services based in the Dorset East area.
There will be opportunities to hot desk within Bournemouth and Christchurch, as well as Poole NHS sites. This is an exciting opportunity to work with stroke survivors and their families to provide Key Worker support following a stroke.
Position: S11166 Stroke Association Support Coordinator
Location: Home-based, Dorset East however, Frequent travel will be required as part of this role (May include team meetings or other work-related meetings)

The Role
The service aims to identify and address the needs of stroke survivors and carers across the stroke pathway, by providing a range of innovative support solutions, supporting them to meet their desired outcomes.
The Stroke Association Support Coordinator will:
· Support new stroke survivors and their carers from hospital discharge into the community.
· Provide personalised information, advice and support.
· Support stroke survivors to make informed lifestyle changes which will help them to prevent further strokes.

About You
The post holder will have experience/background in:
· A caring profession ideally with experience of supporting people with disabilities.
· Setting up and running Communication Support groups.

Role Summary
The Programme Coordinator (Scotland) is a key point of contact for the Into Film Programme in Scotland and delivers Into Film’s Programmes and projects both face to face and online within a bespoke Scottish context/approach. Who we're looking for
We are looking for a dynamic new team member with a PhD in a science/STEM subject to join our innovative Consulting Team and to contribute to the work of our Data and Training Teams. Agriculture and the health sciences are areas we are particularly interested in.
Specifically, we want an individual with a passion for research and sustainable development, a friendly, outgoing personality and a willingness to learn new skills. We’re looking for someone who wants to engage with international development and research projects to help them work more efficiently and have a greater impact.
This role will offer a range of experience and the opportunity to contribute to the diverse range of services that Scriptoria provides.
Approximately half of your time will be spent working with our exceptionally experienced team of knowledge management and data consultants to help us develop and deliver cutting-edge data-management/analytics solutions and project-management software systems to our clients. Your work will also involve working to help us manage and organise the projects we deliver to clients. The other half of your time will involve meeting with and training clients (to pass on your skills in research communications), both online and through face-to-face courses. Finally, you will be encouraged to contribute to company-wide strategy and business development.
Your role will include:

Helping sustainable development and research programs to develop and implement digital tools and analytics systems to better manage their workflows and use their data

Working with projects in Africa and Asia to provide technical advisory and consulting services to help them to better manage and share information, knowledge and data

Training and mentoring international researchers by delivering courses, workshops, and individual support in areas including journal article/report writing, grant writing, project management and communications for non-specialists

Contributing to business development across the company, including marketing and client outreach.
Working with Scriptoria
Our senior team has an exceptional skill set, and we recognise that candidates with all the skills we need simply may not exist. But don’t worry, if you have some of the skills we want but lack others – we will train you to fill those gaps. This will include thorough training in the delivery of our well-respected training courses.
Our staff have the choice to work wholly or partly from home or from our office in Tooting, SW London, during regular operational hours (08.30-17.30). If working from home, staff must have a working environment suitable for holding video-call meetings/training sessions with clients.
Wherever you work, you will interact regularly with senior team members to gain new skills and exchange ideas.
This job will require regular travel to deliver training courses (mostly in the UK, estimated 2 to 8 days per month) and may also involve international travel, including to developing countries. So, applicants must be willing to travel (in line with UK government guidance).

Salary and annual leave
