ABOUT US

The Scottish Rainforest Centre (SRC) was established as a Scottish charity (SCIO) in 2022 to develop a Rainforest Centre. The SRC will be an education and accommodation hub providing access and educational and research opportunities for people to visit the rainforest and get involved in its preservation and restoration.

THE ROLE

The SRC’s aim is to become a centre of scientific excellence and research within the rainforest zone, supporting scientists, researchers and volunteers working on rainforest regeneration and providing an affordable base for their field work and research. Embedded in the local community, the SRC will work closely with project partners, providing opportunities for local people, schools and disadvantaged groups to provide skills development and training opportunities.

The SRC Development Officer will work closely with and report to the SRC Managing Trustee to realise the aims and objectives of the Centre and liaise closely with other project staff on the National Lottery Heritage funded Building capacity to save Scotland’s Rainforest project.

As part of the development stage for the Building capacity project you will develop an events and engagement programme which provides opportunities for users to engage with the SRC, particularly schools and disadvantaged groups. You will work with local communities and partner organisations to develop rural skills development and learning opportunities, and build the confidence of practitioners and group leaders to use the site for education purposes.

The position will be home based with a willingness to travel.

This is a part-time (22.5 hours per week), 15-month, fixed-term position. Should our funding bid for the subsequent five-year ‘delivery’ phase be successful, we hope the CDO will remain in post to support the delivery of these plans.

THE CANDIDATE
You will have experience building relationships with a range of stakeholders including community organisations and are comfortable collaborating and engaging effectively for different outcomes e.g. learning, consultation or facilitation.

You will have the confidence to liaise with environmental organisations, academic institutions and other stakeholders to help develop monitoring and research opportunities at the SRC.

You will be able to confidently organise and deliver a range of events from online webinars to community gatherings; have working knowledge of using social media for marketing, capturing interesting content and writing engaging stories, and you’ll be happy self-managing a diverse and varied workload.

Plus you’ll have experience working as part of a project team, supporting funding bids, budgeting for, and reporting on the impact of your activity. Oh and have a genuine interest in Scotland’s rainforest of course!

A full UK driving licence is required so you can travel across the west coast when required. Access to your own vehicle would be ideal.

Purpose of role

The incoming Chief Executive Officer will be coming into the organisation at a time of change and will lead on delivering the refreshed 2024 - 2026 Strategy and build on Lumos’ unique comparative advantage and successful work in eastern Europe. Taken together, these efforts will contribute to the wider, joint efforts to accelerate Global Care Reform to end the institutionalisation of children and reintegrate children into family-based and alternative care.

The Chief Executive Officer will have the support of a passionate team of staff, an experienced Executive Leadership Team and fully supportive, engaged, and inspired Board of Trustees in the US and the UK.

Primary responsibilities

The new Chief Executive Officer will assume the following responsibilities:

Leadership

• Mobilise the organisation to achieve our mission with a focus on implementing the new 2024-2026 Strategy and embedding the strategic objectives.
• Nurture a thriving organisation and put in place the people, culture, management, and operational systems and appropriate governance to effectively deliver results for children.
• Build on the fundraising strategy and income generation, ensuring sustainable and diverse sources of income and resilience in the face of the effects of an ever-changing global context.
• Lead, empower and develop the Executive Leadership team to deliver our Strategy and model our values.
• Build Lumos’ profile and credibility as a thought leader with global technical expertise in the field of child rights and care reform.

Finance and fundraising

• Ensure the optimal level of resources, financial and human, are deployed to support the attainment of the organisation’s goals and strategic objectives.
• Give active and significant support to Lumos fundraisers and take a leading part in the cultivation of prospective and current donors. Support the Director to diversify the fundraising base and ensure financial sustainability.
• Engage with institutional funders, Trusts and Foundations, corporates and high-net-worth-individuals, attracting new donors and continuing to grow the Lumos’ partnership base and international networks.
• Be accountable to the Board for strategic finance and operational financial management, consolidating financial stability, efficiency, and impact.

Governance

• With the support of the Board of Trustees, work with the Director of Corporate Services to oversee the implementation of the governance function and recommendations as required.
• Ensure the Board is enabled fully to carry out their role, that governance meets the highest possible standards, and that Lumos is fully compliant in all areas.
• Ensure robust project planning and reporting are championed and embedded through the organisation in line with the organisation’s strategic objectives.
• Ensure the application of safeguarding best practice within Lumos and appropriately with the organisation’s partners.

Programmes

• Support Lumos Country Directors in the implementation of their national care reform strategies and collaborative partnerships with governments, and international and local civil society organisations.
• Support the Director of Programmes in sharing the organisation’s learning so that Governments and key stakeholders have the appropriate tools, resources and understanding to create meaningful change.
• Support the Director of Programmes to deliver a portfolio of excellent programmes for children, ensuring the safe and successful transition of current country programmes towards the new strategy and systematise the documentation and dissemination of transferable learning.
• Support the Director of Programmes to deliver safe and quality services in line with annual plans and donor requirements.

Programmes: evidence and advocacy

• Engage and influence multiple stakeholders nationally and internationally (within central, national, and local governments, with the commercial sector, the voluntary sector and in the media), enhancing the visibility of Lumos and its ability to inspire and drive social change for care reform.
• Guide the formulation of the organisation’s position with a view to influencing policy that achieves change in line with Lumos’ priorities.
• Represent the work of Lumos at the highest levels with partners, across the political spectrum and globally, and act as a champion and advocate for the organisation externally.
• Champion implementation research to deepen understanding of the drivers of institutionalisation and identify opportunities for prevention of separation of children from families and family strengthening.
• Oversee the measurement and evaluation of our work to achieve the appropriate reporting of demonstrable impact.

Programmes: child and young people

• Further develop and implement the meaningful participation of children, young people and other groups with lived experience.
• Develop at country and global level advisory mechanisms, in partnership with other organisations where appropriate, to provide platforms for self-advocates and persons and organisations with lived experience.

Profile

Experience, knowledge and skills

• Professional qualifications and experience in a relevant field coupled with sound senior leadership in an NGO or public body.
• Demonstrable knowledge and credibility as a leader in the field of children’s services, child rights or child protection.
• Experience in leading organisational change in line with overall strategy and in response to a dynamic external environment.
• A global mindset and experience of working in diverse systems and with diverse groups and cultures.
• An experienced people leader with a track record of successfully building high performing teams and a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
• Financial acumen, with experience of income generation and appreciation of the complexities of cultivating a diverse portfolio of sources of funding.
• A proven record in the cultivation of donors and success in raising high value funds.
• Knowledge and experience of leading systems change programmes and achieving social impact.
• A demonstrable commitment to transparency, accountability and good governance with knowledge and experience which is relevant to the work of a not-for-profit organisation.

Job title: Community Engagement Officer
Reporting to: Community Engagement Manager

About the role

The British Science Association's mission is to transform the diversity and inclusivity of science. We want more people, especially those from groups that are currently underrepresented in science, to feel that science is relevant to their lives. The BSA’s community engagement programmes focus on reaching these groups.

The Community Engagement Officer will provide support in delivering the BSA’s community engagement programmes. This role would suit someone with experience of supporting community engagement programmes.

Key responsibilities: Community Engagement programmes

The main responsibilities are to:

• Support the delivery of the British Science Week Community Grant Scheme and the creation/dissemination of the British Science Week Community Activity Pack
• Provide support for the delivery of the Community Buddies programme, the Community Lead Research Pilot and a Community Grants scheme for a new funder.
• Manage the BSA Communities social media accounts, working with Communications team colleagues
• Coordinate and help to grow the Community Engagement Network
• Manage communications for, and support development of, the Community Engagement Network members including writing newsletters, email updates and working with Comms colleagues to develop blog content
• Support with writing of funding proposals that lead to the growth of the community engagement portfolio
• Support projects delivered by other BSA teams as needed and undertake other duties as reasonably required by the line manager

About The Role
Business Manager - Dementia Support & Partnerships
We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Dementia Support & Partnerships Directorate at Alzheimer’s Society supporting the Senior Leadership Team and its Executive Director

You will be integral in delivering and measuring the success of its ambitious plans as part of our Help and Hope strategy, ensuring that we are there for everyone affected by dementia. The successful individual will lead a team of two Officers who support the business requirements of the directorate to ensure that annual planning, objectives setting, and performance indicators are firmly established and deliver against the Society-wide strategic priorities; as well as ensuring that the directorate is regularly reviewing its performance and assurance activities relating to internal policies and external legislative and regulatory requirements.  You will be experienced in monitoring strategic plans and able to translate your findings to senior leaders in relation to risk and resource to enable problem-solving and decision-making. This role sits within Dementia Support & Partnerships which is a
complex and multi-faceted directorate of over 1100 employees and 2000 volunteers.  The directorate includes our Local and Universal Services delivery across the three nations of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland; commercial and partnerships which oversees the successful end to end management of service contracts, external training, and our service delivery partnerships; and a portfolio of enabling functions that ensure our Services practitioners and managers are provided high quality training and technical knowledge; and delivers assurance activities and legislative compliance relating to safe practice across the entire Society. 
About the role:

- Designing and delivering annual planning and objective setting for the Directorate which align with our Society strategic priorities.
- Deliver effective and efficient monitoring processes that oversee and report on directorate risks, strategic indicators and performance indicators. 
- Ensuring that updates and progress is communicated accurately through our Society Quarterly Business Review process. 
- Accountable for ensuring strong governance through leading on directorate wide activities linked to plans, risk, performance, and compliance. 
- Championing successes to ensure they are celebrated and non-compliance or risk swiftly responded to.
- Ensuring that change and improvement design and development projects are delivered to time, lessons learnt, and key achievements and impact translated to the Senior Leadership Team.
- Provide exceptional line management and performance management support to two members of your team; supporting, coaching, and providing the successful delivery of all business management functions across Dementia Support & Partnerships.

About you:

- You will be a highly motivated and organised individual with proven experience as a Business Manager or similar role developing strategic planning and performance capability within a complex and multi-faceted environment.
- Confident to deliver to Executives and Senior Leaders, you will be comfortable and experienced in designing and leading workshops which enable the translation of business needs and objectives into obtainable and reportable planning processes. 
- Possess the skills and experience to enable the work of the Officers within your team to translate up into recommendations for the Senior Leadership team which will enable and empower fast and effective decision-making and problem-solving.    
- Able to prioritise and lead your own workload to effectively deliver to target the business requirements of the directorate,
- Seek to find ways to collaborate and partner with your peers and colleagues across the Society to ensure that all business matters meet the requirements as set by the Society’s Strategic Planning and Performance Team and Governance Team. 
- Possess verbal and written communication skills.
- A relational approach which seeks to work collaboratively with others and where possible to reduce unnecessary process.
