To support people affected by macular disease now, the Macular Society provides a range of support, information and services. Our research programme is focused on finding new treatments and a cure to Beat Macular Disease forever.

We are looking for a highly organised events planner with a talent for managing every detail from start to finish and who can continue the success of our annual online conference, dedicated to helping people understand more about macular disease.

You will play a key role in our friendly and dynamic team, ensuring the successful planning and delivery of all elements of our annual conference. You will collaborate with internal teams to create engaging session content and speakers to drive engagement, participation and registrations. You will be responsible for managing budgets, overseeing marketing and promotion, and compiling post-campaign analysis to evaluate success and inform future strategies.

There will be other opportunities to support with engaging audiences including supporting our webinars and podcasts.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Remote working, in the UK (with travel to London team meet-ups once a month).

An experienced advocate with a sound understanding of the UK political system and legislative process, the Policy and Advocacy Specialist will be responsible for leading on Animal Equality’s life-saving legal advocacy campaigns on behalf of farmed animals.

Working as part of a highly effective team, within a fast-paced environment, the Policy and Advocacy Specialist will develop and implement advocacy strategies that influence public policy with a goal to advance Animal Equality UK’s mission: to end the exploitation of farmed animals.

An excellent communicator, with an ability to convey complex information in a digestible way, the Policy and Advocacy Specialist will be a professional with a proven track record of policy programme delivery. The role involves engaging with policymakers, building relationships with coalition partners, overseeing public affairs initiatives, and influencing Government policy to create meaningful changes for farmed animals.

The salary band for this role is £40,000 - £46,000 per annum, dependent on relevant skills and experience.

Role overview
PBA is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Financial Adviser to oversee its financial matters. The successful candidate will provide expert advice and guidance on financial operations, ensuring robust financial systems and controls are in place. Key responsibilities include:

• Advising the Board of Directors on the financial implications of strategic decisions, ensuring that all actions align with the PBA’s financial objectives.
• Offering impartial, clear, and sound financial counsel to the Board and the Stewardship Team, fostering confidence and supporting decision-making processes.
• Acting with integrity, independence, and professionalism at all times, safeguarding the company’s financial interests and maintaining a strong ethical stance.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence and the ability to provide strategic financial insights while upholding the highest standards of confidentiality and accountability.

Key Responsibilities
As part of the PBA Finance Team and leading the team, the Financial Advisor plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health of PBA, offering strategic advice, ensuring compliance, and overseeing day-to-day financial operations. The Financial Advisor works closely with PBA’s Accounts administrator.
Key responsibilities are:

• Work with the core team on the annual Business Planning process and help devise and produce the annual Budget.
• Assist in the compilation and analysis of the Approval and circulation of monthly /quarterly financial and management accounts, including a brief narrative report.
• Offer high level advice and guidance in support of and to help achieve the targets set out in the Business Plan.
• Act as one Authorised Signatory on all bank accounts and manage relationships with external financial institutions and banking partners.
• Oversee and liaise with auditors for the annual audit and other matters as required from time to time.
• Ensure VAT compliance and reporting.
• Be familiar with the cover afforded by all insurance policies and provide information on matters that may affect cover. Ensure appropriate insurance policies are in place and up to date.
• Ensure timely payment of all taxes.
• Ensure all accounting policies are compliant with current accounting practices.
• Keep updated on all legislation that applies to the company and advise the core team and Board of Directors as appropriate.
• Maintain and update the company’s Statutory Register.
• Annual filing of Annual Return and audited accounts and updating Companies House for directors’ appointments and resignations via auditors and company secretarial advisors.
• Manage the annual Declaration of Interest process.
• Provide strategic guidance on corporate governance best practices, while developing and implementing effective risk management strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks.

Profile
The role may be particularly well-suited for a seasoned finance professional who is looking to apply their skills and experience in a meaningful way outside of a traditional full-time career path. This could include individuals who are semi-retired, transitioning out of the corporate sector, or those seeking to contribute their expertise to a purpose-driven organization. Skills & experience – essential

• Professionally qualified with working knowledge of UK accounting and company law.
• Demonstrable senior financial management experience and competence, ideally with a background in both not for profit and business environments.
• Demonstrable understanding of not-for-profit organisation dynamics.
• Experience of working with Boards and high calibre leadership.
• Ability to think strategically, and exercise good, independent judgement.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a small team.
• Ability to blend strategic thinking with enthusiasm for detail and analytical curiosity. Commitment: Required to attend Board and other meetings (usually online due to the geographically dispersed nature of PBA).

Terms and Conditions

• Up to the equivalent of 30 days per annum (7.5 hours per day).

MAIN DUTIES

1.Being first point of contact for new business client enquiries, responding to messages from new clients and scheduling sales consultations with prospective clients. This includes acting on new referrals for paid service consultations within 24 hours, gaining the client's trust, identifying and advising on the best service to meet the client’s needs from initial assessment of their situation, and promoting confidence in Beacon and our ability to meet the client’s needs.

2.Liaising with relevant health trusts, care providers and other organisations to support the facilitation of assessments, as part of a new business request.

3.       Providing operational support to Business Development Manager, including taking telephone enquiries from clients and arranging sales consultations. Supporting the Business Development Manager with sales consultations during holidays and at peak periods.

4.Drafting and sending detailed estimates to prospective clients following initial consultations and following up to close the sale.

5.Establishing a rapport with prospective clients, utilising Beacon’s reputation within the industry to generate business and maintaining excellent communication throughout the sales journey.

6.Managing the case allocation process including responsibility for ensuring cases are allocated in a timely way according to case deadlines.

7.Generating and sending out contracts and associated paperwork, and processing completed contracts for clients engaging in a paid service. Liaising with caseworkers for a smooth handover of the new case, ensuring that expectations are met and key deadlines understood by the caseworker.

8.Maintaining good communication with colleagues in the Information and Advice team to facilitate the smooth transfer of prospective clients from an advice call to a paid service consultation.

9.To keep relevant and sufficiently detailed case records following each client contact, ensuring that all client information is kept up to date in line with Beacon’s systems and procedures, including data protection policies. 

10.Keeping sales data software up to date and producing monthly sales reports for Managing Director.

11.Responsible for the effective operation of client administrative procedures including operating and maintaining database and filing systems.

12.Arranging for the safe and secure transportation of sensitive client files and medical records for caseworkers and clients.

13.Attending line management, supervision and team meetings as appropriate.

14.Provide organisational, administrative and secretarial support to the sales and casework teams as required.

Background Information

NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) is the name given to a package of care that some people need to receive due to disability, accident or illness. People who are eligible for CHC have the full cost of their care and residential accommodation funded by the NHS. This relieves families of sometimes astronomical care bills.

The criteria for determining who is eligible for CHC are highly complex and can be very difficult for the public to understand, and for professionals to apply consistently. The assessment process is lengthy and detailed. Likewise, the appeal process can be very daunting and perplexing.

Beacon was established in May 2014 for the purpose of providing independent and high-quality support to individuals and their families in England who need help navigating the NHS Continuing Healthcare process.

The Retail Partnerships Lead role plays an important part in the success of Scope’s retail offering. Providing exceptional relationship management to our existing retail partners whilst building a pipeline to securing new donors. The ideal candidate will be an experienced relationship management with a history of successfully growing and securing partnerships.

Permanent - 35 hours a week

Location: You can live anywhere in England or Wales and work at home if that suits you best. Some travel to Scope offices and services or site visits for agencies will be expected but you definitely do not have to live in London.

The role

• As Retail Partnerships Lead you will be responsible for all retail stock donation partners.

• You will act as senior key person for Scope’s headline retail partners delivering exceptional partnership account management.

• You will build a pipeline of prospective partners managing them through the sales cycle.

• You will develop retail propositions that excite our retail partners. Linking their support to Scope’s goals.

• You will work closely with both the Head of Corporate Partnerships and the Head of Retail to identify stock requirements and grow relationships with our retail partners.
