About us

Action for Conservation is a grassroots charity using pioneering approaches to inspire and empower young people from diverse backgrounds, between the ages of 12 and 24, to become the next generation of environmental leaders.  We have recently embarked on an inspiring and ambitious new, three-year project funded through the National Lottery Community Fund: Intergenerational Action for Nature and Climate. This will see us working across two sites, Grow Wilder in Bristol and Heartwood, near Matlock in Derbyshire, and using our proven intergenerational land stewardship approach to restore biodiversity and connect young people to nature, empowering them to become life-long climate activists and advocates for nature.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and be a part of the project from the very beginning, playing a key role in its success. You will work closely with other members of the project team, as well as our partners Avon Wildlife Trust, to support the development and successful delivery of the project at Grow Wilder in Bristol.

Through regular online engagement and monthly visits to the Grow Wilder site, you will support us in facilitating an intergenerational co-design process, using eco-cultural mapping and other participatory methods. Involving key stakeholders, including Avon Wildlife Trust, a Youth Leadership Group of young people aged 12-18 living locally to Grow Wilder, land knowledge holders and the wider community, this process will enable participants to collectively develop an ambitious vision for the future of Grow Wilder. One of the outcomes of this process will be a shared plan for restoring nature and improving biodiversity at Grow Wilder, which will be implemented throughout the lifetime of the project and beyond.

Working in collaboration with our partners Avon Wildlife Trust, you will be responsible for coordinating all project activities, providing high-quality administrative and organisational support to the project team. You will also lead or support a variety of engaging sessions, webinars and hands-on activities with the project partners, young people, community groups and other project stakeholders.

Start date: as soon as possible, ideally mid/late October
Contract: Fixed-term for three years, with scope to extend subject to funding
Starting salary: £28,121.27 - £29,317.92 (FTE , pro-rata if working part time) depending on experience
Location: Bristol. This role requires regular travel within Bristol and the South West region, as well as occasional national travel 
Working hours: full-time (35 hours) or part-time (21 hours). This role requires regular evening and weekend work, as well as occasional residential stays/work. Time off in lieu (TOIL) can be taken for work outside of usual office hours.

• Support the South West Programme Manager and Land-based Projects Lead to design and facilitate an intergenerational co-design process, using eco-cultural mapping and other participatory methods, to develop a future vision for Grow Wilder.
• Plan, coordinate and deliver monthly visits of the Youth Leadership Group to the Grow Wilder site.
• Facilitate the activity of the Youth Leadership Group outside of Grow Wilder visits to ensure young people are equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to engage fully with the project.
• Plan, coordinate and deliver school/youth group visits and community nature restoration action days at Grow Wilder.
• Support monitoring and evaluation activities to understand the impact of the project and facilitate learnings.
• (If applicable) Support the delivery of our core programmes for young people, helping young people to experience, connect with and take action for nature.

Stewardship offers an annual accounts preparation and review service for churches and charities. The aim is not just to work on the accounts, but to provide advice to clients on a wide area of financial wisdom, governance and regulation, along with training and educational services as needed.

We are looking for an ambitious, pro-active individual to join the operations team as we continue to lead the way in soil science at the forefront of the sector.

About the Role

Since the World Congress of Soil Science, which we hosted in Glasgow in 2022, the British Society of Soil Science (BSSS) is becoming increasingly recognised as the go-to organisation for evidence relating to soil.

This new post will deliver the Society’s activities around our policy work; producing draft guidance notes and consultation responses for our committees to comment on, working with policymakers and stakeholders to raise awareness of our members’ collective evidence-base and best practice knowledge.

You will work closely with the Executive Director to understand the Society’s priorities and support the delivery of our strategy by developing relevant guidance and policy projects, whilst horizon scanning to seek opportunities for the Society to have influence externally.

Your activities will make a demonstrable difference in raising awareness of the Society’s work amongst external stakeholders, leading to opportunities for collaboration and income generation.

There will be a requirement to coordinate work on behalf of the Society and to attend occasional conferences and events, throughout the year.

About You

Educated to degree level or equivalent you will be an established Policy and Public Affairs professional, with good attention to detail, agile in approach with excellent communication and influencing skills. 

Passionate about the natural environment you will place the Society at the centre of debate, advocating best practice around soil science and land use management across government departments and cross sector actors. 

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of coordinating and delivering policy responses, working with internal and external stakeholders in the development of policy and projects, and raising awareness of an organisation’s profile with politicians, policymakers and opinion formers.

You must have the ability to assimilate complex policy topics quickly, a solid understanding of political and policy processes, and be an excellent communicator.

The ideal person will also have sound research and project management skills, along with experience working for a membership body, an established network and relevant knowledge of environment policy led issues.

The British Society of Soil Science (BSSS) was founded in 1947 by eminent British soil scientists with the aims of advancing the study of soil; being open to membership from all those with an interest in the study and uses of soil; and issuing an annual publication.

Fine Cell Work (FCW) is a charity and creative social enterprise committed to the rehabilitation of people in prison, and post-release. Our innovative Open The Gate (OTG) programme at our Battersea Hub offers work experience, volunteering opportunities, accredited training, mentoring, and signposting support to participants at any point on their resettlement journey, and we are looking for an ambitious and dynamic Engagement and Support Officer (ESO) to join our team.

The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by people in contact with the criminal justice system and will work proactively to establish meaningful and sustainable cross-referral pathways with external agencies. They will nurture an aspirational, inclusive, creative, and safe working environment; use their knowledge, insights, and expertise to support tangible outcomes for all OTG participants; and develop the wider programme offer in line with our organisational objectives. 

The role

As well as offering person-centred support and helping to shape our post-release programmes, you would be responsible for:

• Nurturing an aspirational working environment where participants/Apprentices are inspired to achieve their potential.

• Working to build and maintain referral partnerships with external agencies [including HMP resettlement teams, probation services, approved premises and community-based organisations supporting prison-leavers] to increase participant numbers and sustained engagement with Open the Gate.

• Coordinating referrals and assisting with the development of risk management plans, including information gathering, and dissemination.

• Ensuring timely, accurate, and safe recording of all information and personal data.

• Action-planning and goal setting with all Apprentices, in consultation with the Workshop Manager, supporting them to achieve work-ready outcomes in an agreed period.

• Providing day to day practical, pastoral, and sign-posting support to a caseload of Open the Gate participants, or Apprentices, and providing ad-hoc support to graduate Apprentices when required.

• Working with the wider team at FCW to develop and coordinate a series of employability and creative wellbeing workshops for Apprentices.

• Supporting small grant application processes on behalf of OTG Apprentices.

• Responding to safeguarding concerns in line with FCW policy and procedure.

• Providing remote support via telephone and online to FCW experienced prison-leavers who are not regularly attending the Hub.  

• Supporting the Volunteer and Programmes Manager with the delivery of the Service User Involvement Strategy and championing service user involvement across the organisation more broadly.

• Supporting the Volunteer and Programmes Manager to recruit and delivering training to mentors and other volunteers in roles supporting OTG Apprentices.

• Working with the Volunteer and Programmes Manager to develop and enhance the OTG Mentor Offer including as the first point of contact for Mentors pre- and post- mentoring sessions. 

The person

Background to School Food Matters

School Food Matters (SFM) exists to teach children about food and to improve children’s access to healthy, sustainable food during their time at school. We provide fully funded food education programmes to schools. Our experience delivering these programmes informs and strengthens our campaigns, bringing the voices of children, parents and teachers to government policy.

Healthy Zones programme

Healthy Zones supports primary, secondary and special schools to create a food environment that puts young people's health centre stage. We are working with schools to develop food policies and to improve the food served in their breakfast and after school clubs. The programme uses a whole school approach through hands-on engagement with students, staff, kitchen teams, governors and parents.

Job Purpose

· To promote, develop and deliver the Healthy Zones programme across schools in Southwark and Lambeth

· Support with the expansion of the Healthy Zones programme across other regions in England

The Regional Business Development Manager is a central part of the Southern Africa Regional team and will play a key role in helping to expand WaterAid's funding portfolio as well as building regional intelligence, positioning WaterAid's work in our key thematic areas (such as health and climate), and proposal development. The role will partner with country teams in the region, fundraising specialists, and technical experts across WaterAid as well as externally with donors and partners to develop a multi-year pipeline of opportunities and implementing a strategy for business development. The postholder will be a strategic thinker, who is able to challenge and mentor country funding teams to appraise opportunities critically and to produce consistent, compelling proposals and funding strategies; and to deliver on targets. This will focus on ensuring WaterAid is well positioned within key donor and consortium partner networks in the region as a "go to" partner for long term sustainable WASH programming.

Key accountabilities among others include:

Strategy

• Support country programmes in developing fundraising, donor and consortium partner strategies from a deep understanding of how to position WA's programmes within the current donor marketplace.
• Contribute to overall new business strategy in collaboration with country teams, Senior Program Development Manager and Regional Director, assessing regional performance against Key Performance Indicators and annual revenue targets.

Pipeline development and management:

• Be responsible for growing and monitoring the pipeline of relevant funding opportunities to WA country programmes, coordinating with fundraising members to communicating donor intelligence, ensuring a balanced portfolio of funding types and ambition.
• Provide strategic support to the sign on of larger funding opportunities, ensuring that WA country teams are supported to negotiate favourable positions within consortia and are able to effectively assess and mitigate for delivery risk.
• Support the improvement of cost recovery in restricted funding contracts through supporting country teams to communicate and negotiate with donors and holding CPs to account for cost recovery KPIS.

Funding skills and capabilities development:

• Monitor the fundraising skills, capabilities and investment levels within country teams, and support the development of both funding focused roles and the capability of country SMTs to engage with donors and develop funding propositions
• Play a leading role in co-creating and embedding business processes, systems, and policies for restricted funding
• Build confidence in pursuing different funding modalities, including commercial contracts through accompanying country teams in the development of complex and novel bidding approaches (with the support of global teams and consultants)

Leadership and Line management

• Responsible for working with a high-performing team of country Heads of Funding and Donor Relationship Leads across the globe. The RBDM will contribute to strategic and operational planning processes; define and deliver an agreed set of team performance targets; and providing guidance, coaching and support in helping peers achieve optimum performance.
• The RBDM will contribute towards establishing the core new business processes of the team and will lead on and ensure effective linkages with other key stakeholders
• Identify specialist training needs in the region and source relevant expertise from Programme Funding and Partnerships team (PFP) and other external avenues to address the capacity needs in the region.

To be successful, you will need the following:

• Master's Degree level qualification in international development, economics or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
• Approximately 10 years of experience in planning, securing and managing funds from institutional donors such as USAID, EC, UK Government, International Financial Institutions such as the WB, AfDB, local and international corporates, trust and foundations such as Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation etc.
• Substantial experience and knowledge of the institutional funding space and a deep understanding of bilateral and multilateral donors' routes to market
• Solid experience building partnerships to facilitate opportunities in consortium contracting and negotiating the position of WA in those consortia
• Demonstrable track record of developing and delivering on strategies for restricted income growth.

Citizens Advice Waltham Forest is a local charity that has been providing advice, information and advocacy services to residents for over 40 years. We deliver our services across the borough in our office, Family Hubs and public buildings like libraries and schools. We are responsible for core advice services commissioned by the council and have excellent partnerships with many other charities across the borough. 

The charity is governed by a board of trustees, all local people, that now seeks a Company Secretary to support their work. The successful candidate will be interested in charity governance; able to operate independently; and possess the skills to provide a high quality, reliable secretariat to ensure the smooth running of our governance processes. 

The role is offered on a self-employed basis and will be suitable for someone who can be flexible. Hours will vary but are likely to be 7 hours per month. 

Role 

The Company Secretary to the board of trustees is there to ensure the smooth running of all governance processes. Working closely with the chair of trustees and elected officers, you will ensure that records are accurate, up to date and well-organised; that agendas and papers are circulated in good time; that all meetings are minuted and minutes are turned around promptly; and that other duties such as sending updates to the Charity Commission and Companies House are carried out. The board meets four times a year; and one sub-committee (the Resources Committee covering finance and personnel), also meets four times a year. There is a Joint Negotiating Committee which meets on an ad hoc basis, and the AGM in January. All these meetings take place in the evening and are diarised a full year ahead.
