We are seeking volunteers to help us with our fundraising efforts in the North and Kent regions. As a Regional Volunteer Coordinator, you will be the face of The Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT) in your local community. Working with the Trust's Community Fundraiser, each Regional Coordinator will be asked to:
· Attend 2 or more events per year in their local community. These events could include fairs, local military events (such as Armed Forces Day), or larger county shows. The Community Fundraiser will assist with researching potential events and discuss a shortlist with the regional coordinators. Event bookings and relevant paperwork including payments where needed will be handled by the Community Fundraiser.
· Engage with local supermarket community champions to investigate opportunities for bucket collections and encourage local shops/restaurants to display a donation tin on their counter.
· Assist GWT with the recruitment of volunteers to attend community events and cheer at challenge events within their region, such as the Doko Challenges and Trailwalker.
· Encourage people to sign up to receive our monthly e-news or Samachara newsletter.
· Encourage supporters within their area to take part in GWT fundraising campaigns (e.g., Curry Night fundraiser).
· Represent the GWT at cheque presentations, award ceremonies, etc. within the region.
· Deliver presentations or give talks about GWT and our work to local groups such as Rotary Clubs, Masonic Lodges etc.
· Help to promote larger GWT-led events happening in their region.
Skills & Experience
To be able to undertake the Regional Coordinator voluntary role, the following qualifications, skills set and experience would be helpful:
· Excellent communication skills
· the ability to inspire others
· Approachable and comfortable with talking to members of the public about GWT and our work in Nepal
· Driving licence with access to your own vehicle
· A reasonable level of fitness (e.g. to be able to set up gazebos etc)
· Basic IT skills and internet access (ideally via a tablet, laptop or PC)
Previous volunteer experience may be beneficial, but is not required as guidance will be provided.

What your role will involve

Bats are amazing animals and an important part of our natural environment. There are 18 species of bat in the UK, all of which are protected by law because their numbers have decreased so dramatically. BCT operates a National Bat Helpline to provide almost 15,000 enquirers a year with easily accessible and accurate information, including getting injured bats to the care they need. The Helpline’s role in advising and supporting people who encounter bats is an important part of BCT’s work towards our vision of a world rich in wildlife where bats and people thrive together.
About the role
As a volunteer you will answer calls from the public, providing advice on bat care calls and putting them in touch with local bat care volunteers where possible. During our emergency service, volunteers will also be advising on calls relating to bat crime. We consistently receive feedback from volunteers to say that this role can be challenging at times due to the volume of calls, but with the support from the team, and the knowledge that they are helping bats and advising members of the public makes it such a rewarding role. Many enjoy it so much that they return to volunteer the next season! Volunteers took about 4,456 calls between May and September last year.
You do not need to have prior experience in conservation to volunteer, anyone who is interested in helping bats is welcome to apply. Volunteering for the Helpline is a great way to get involved in conservation from the comfort of your home and during your spare time.
Commitment
We hope that volunteers will be able to sign up to 3 Bat Watches per month between May – September. A Bat Watch is up to 4 hours (including a 30-minute break), please see our website for Bat Watch times.
All you need is:
- A computer/laptop with internet access (or a tablet, although a computer is preferable).
- A speaker/mic or headset to use with your computer, as phone calls will be received using an internet app on your device.
- A phone with reliable reception for contacting support staff where needed
Skills and abilities
- Competent in using computers and entering data onto an online form.
- Accurate record-keeping.
- An interest in UK wildlife and conservation and/or animal welfare.
- Affective communication skills and ability to reassure members of the public during calls.
- Willingness to spend additional time reading training materials and keeping up to date with communications from the project coordinator.
Training and support
Returning summer volunteers (2023 or 2024) will receive a refresher training video. Each new or returning summer volunteer (pre-2023) must attend an online training day in April as well as complete some introductory online training in their own time. This year’s training dates are:
- Saturday 5th April
- Tuesday 8th April
- Thursday 10th April
Training days will run between 10:30am and 2:30pm with breaks.
All volunteers will also receive a comprehensive manual and full support from BCT staff during their assigned bat watches and throughout the season. During the virtual training day, we will provide an induction explaining what we do and how volunteers fit within our organisation. We will also provide training to assist you to meet the standards we expect from volunteers.

Men Who Talk is a UK registered charity, running twice weekly online peer-to-peer support groups for men aged 18+ across the UK. The groups take place between 7:00pm - 8:30pm every Wednesday evening, and 11:00am - 12:30pm every Saturday morning.
Our groups are supportive spaces for men aged 18+ to come and talk openly about what's on their mind. All groups are free to attend and follow the evidence based model of peer support.
Volunteers are required to be online from 6:45pm to 8:45pm on a Wednesday evening, and from 10:45am - 12:45pm on a Saturday, and are required to facilitate around 1 group per month. Volunteers are asked to commit to an a minimum of 6 months of volunteering in the initial stage.
All groups are facilitated by 2 facilitators, and follow a semi-structured pattern.
We are looking for passionate men with some experience of groups facilitating or working in mental health settings to come join us as facilitators. Experience in using online platforms such as zoom is essential.
A degree in psychology is preferred but not an essential requirement.
You must have the right to live and work in the UK in order to join us, MWT is unable to sponsor any visa applications. Fluency in conversational English and a firm grasp of technology is also required.

The Community Support/Reach Out volunteer will be volunteering remotely, providing online support and guidance to visitors of The Forward Trust Website communicating in real time using web chat.
The Reach Out Service sits within our Recovery Support Department and is aimed at offering friendly and confidential listening support and assistance. The role involves utilising your communication skills to establish rapport with individuals seeking drug and alcohol help and or to talk about their mental health or other varied life challenges. You will be supporting people who are seeking help for drugs and alcohol help for themselves or from family members concerned for their loved one.
Training is provided to all volunteers to support them with their volunteering role and enable them to further their skills and experience with our client group.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Time Commitment: We recommend that volunteers can commit to an average of 3 hours online per week for a minimum period of six months.
Service Delivery
- Be available for the duration of the shift to answer web-chat/calls as they happen.
- Engage with individuals in a friendly and empathetic manner.
- Gain an understanding of the individual needs and sign post to appropriate organisations for further support or explore specialist services as required.
- Link individuals into Forward Trusts community drug and alcohol services when required and link individuals into drug and alcohol help in other geographical areas where Forward Trust does not have a service.
- Report any Safeguarding concerns to shift supervisor and follow safeguarding procedures as appropriate.
- Respond to offline messages at the beginning of each shift.
- Debrief with and ask for support and guidance from Reach Out Coordinator regarding any concerns arising from web chat conversations.
- Provide handover to supervisor and/or next volunteers covering the shift prior to logging off
- To book shifts in a timely fashion and inform the Reach Out Coordinator of any need to cancel a shift at the earliest opportunity.
- Engage with support and supervision offered by placement supervisor.

Overview
We are looking to appoint a Senior Research Manager who is able to lead all our Initial Research function, this function is fulfilled by usually 4 teams all led by a Research Manager and Senior Researcher. FareShare Greater Manchester is looking for volunteer Driver's Assistants to join our busy friendly delivery team with redistributing tonnes of surplus food a month to charities and community initiatives across Greater Manchester.
FareShare is a national charity fighting food poverty and global warming by tackling food surplus. We source overstocked food from retailers and manufacturers and engage many volunteers to help re-distribute it to over 220 frontline charities and community groups across Greater Manchester. These groups, in turn, provide meals to vulnerable people experiencing food poverty, individuals who are homeless, families, and people who are unemployed or socially isolated. This food would otherwise have gone to waste, so we are simultaneously supporting people in need and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Key responsibilities
Working closely with the driver of a temperature-controlled 3.5 tonne Mercedes Sprinter van to deliver surplus food orders to the premises of the benevolent projects we support.
Loading and unloading the vehicle and carrying out a range of tasks, from basic vehicle checks to delivery administration.
