Galop, the UK’s LGBT+ anti-abuse charity, is seeking a Senior Independent Sexual Violence Advocate to provide an effective and professional service to LGBT+ people facing violence and abuse.

Galop works directly with thousands of LGBT+ people who have experienced abuse and violence every year. We specialise in supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, and other forms of abuse including honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and so-called conversion therapies. We are a service run by LGBT+ people, for LGBT+ people, and the needs of our community are at the centre of what we do.

We run a national support helpline for LGBT+ victims and survivors of: domestic abuse; hate crime; rape and sexual abuse; and so-called “conversion therapy”. We provide advocacy services, both in London and nationally, for LGBT+ victims who need longer-term support. We are person-centred, empowerment-based, and trauma-informed – meaning our focus is always on helping our clients decide what is best for them, and then supporting them through their journey.

We use what we learn through working on the frontlines with clients to work on national and local policy change, to improve outcomes for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence. We build evidence through key pieces of research, like our upcoming report into LGBT+ experiences of sexual violence. We push for legislative change, improved statutory guidance for victims, and better understanding of the needs of LGBT+ people around the country. 

Galop is looking for an experienced practitioner to provide effective support to LGBT+ victims and survivors of sexual abuse and violence in the UK. You will work within the advocacy team to deliver advice, support, and advocacy to LGBT+ victims and survivors of sexual violence.  You will act as a specialist lead within the advocacy team on sexual violence, including providing support, advice and expertise to your colleagues and externally. 

You will have an in depth understanding of the spectrum of violence and abuse that LGBT+ people are subjected to, including the causes, impact and barriers to accessing services. You will use your expertise to represent Galop with key stakeholders, advocating for the needs of the community. 

You will have expertise in delivering needs-led specialist support services. You will need to be solutions-focussed and enjoy working collaboratively across a diverse and committed team. You’ll need to have good resilience and self-care and be prepared to work in an environment where abuse and violence are regularly talked about. You’ll need to understand the impact of trauma and how that affects our team.

We are seeking a Sex Worker Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (SWISVA) to provide appropriate emotional and practical 1-to-1 support to people involved in sex work, who often experience stigma and face barriers to accessing services. Working within a specialist sexual violence approach, you will be enabling people to access support and navigate services, including those directly related to sexual violence. You will support them to navigate criminal justice processes if they wish to do so. You will be working in partnership with other agencies and making appropriate referrals for people to access other services to support their wider needs. You will play a key role in advocating for improved responses to sexual violence, including pathways through the criminal justice processes.  

The post is part of a unique partnership between National Ugly Mugs, Basis Yorkshire and POW (Nottingham) to ensure more specialist support for sex workers who have experienced sexual violence, to develop good practice guidelines, develop and share learning, and to influence change in provisions for sex workers. Each organisation will be employing a SWISVA; the program will be led by a Program Coordinator who will be based with Basis Yorkshire, and who will lead on influencing of policy and sharing of learning to improve outcomes for sex workers who have experienced sexual violence   

The main role responsibilities (further outlined in the job description) are:  

• Oversee a caseload of people who have experienced sexual violence

• Ensure that sex workers have access to specialist sexual violence services, including access to the SARC and support throughout the criminal justice process

• Ensure that safeguarding practice is embedded within working practices to effectively support those at risk 

• Work collaboratively with Police, ISVAs and other colleagues to ensure the needs of sex workers are met and their voices are heard within the criminal justice process 

• Advocate for sex workers wishing to access the specialist service, challenging discrimination, exclusion and stigma both for individuals and within the wider community  

• Ensure the service maintains its strict confidentiality and protects the data of those accessing the service 

• Work collaboratively with peers in the SWISVA Partnership Program and the Program Coordinator to enable the Programme to achieve its wider objectives of quality assurance, development of good practice guidelines, learning, evaluating and influencing  

• To work within POW to support the core services including drop-in and outreach, taking the lead and driving as allocated

About the Role:

This role involves both face to face and virtual support in a hybrid model of working. There is an expectation that you will do a mixture of working from home, our office in Old Street and in co-location at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

As a Hospital Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocate you will:

• Implement effective ways of working with victims to increase safety & reduce harm
• Provide a high-quality, front-line service to victims of domestic and sexual abuse

About the role:

As an ISVA you will provide ongoing continuity, advocacy and impartial advice and information to all survivors accessing our service. You will be confident in offering advice such as reporting to the police, accessing Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) services, and specialist support such as pre-trial therapy and sexual violence counselling.

You will conduct risk assessments and analyse the specific needs of clients who have suffered sexual violence. Your expertise in this area will enable you to develop individual service plans that address these risks and needs. You will have a proven track record of working with high and complex caseloads and have demonstrated resilience in your professional life, enabling you to work effectively under pressure. You will have extensive experience working with vulnerable clients and possess the skills to maintain professional boundaries and promote empowerment to survivors, rather than fostering reliance on support. You will also be adept at working in a trauma-informed manner, acknowledging that trauma can impact individuals in different ways, and offering support with this as a priority. As an advocate for sexual violence survivors/victims, you will work to promote their confidence, resilience, and empowerment both within and outside of the criminal justice system.

You will provide non-therapeutic support to victims/survivors. This will be delivered face-to-face or via telephone, text and/or email based on the preferences of the client. To build links with services across West Yorkshire to ensure wrap-around support is available.

You will offer guidance and support to clients in navigating the criminal justice process while ensuring their rights are protected in accordance with the Victims Code of Practice. You will be able to explain legal, criminal, and civil remedies to clients as necessary. You will provide victims with access to resources and support to help them through the criminal justice process.

We are looking for a new Independent Sexual Violence Advisor to join our team in providing advocacy and support to survivors of rape/sexual violence and sexual abuse.The ISVA will be based in our central Reading office, with the option of hybrid working. ISVAs will need to travel within Thames Valley to meet clients as required.

Main Purpose of the Role:

To provide advocacy and support to survivors of sexual violence.  The ISVA will support adults who have reported or are wishing to report this crime navigate the criminal justice system. The ISVA will work closely with the Police Service, Sexual Assault Referral Centre, CPS, and other relevant organisations. 

ISVA Main Duties

· Provide advice, guidance and information to adults who have experienced rape and sexual abuse.

· Support service users that have been referred to Trust House Reading.

· Support clients in making informed choices about their future options.

· Explain relevant criminal, legal and civil remedies and housing options to clients as required.

· Assess the risk and support needs of clients.

· Develop individual support plans to address risks /support needs of clients.

· Ensure that clients are aware of the services to which they are entitled and advocate for them to help them access services.

· Understand the legal framework relating to the protection of children and vulnerable adults including the policy and procedures in relation to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

· Support ISVA clients through the criminal justice system, explaining the procedures and their role and rights within that system, referring to Victim Support or the Witness Care Service as appropriate.

· Support the service user in making a witness statement and attending court.

· Keep the service user informed about case progress on behalf of the police in line with the requirements of the Service Code of Practice.

· Participate in case conferences with the police, CPS and prosecuting barrister.

· Assist clients accessing special measures.

· Liaise with the police, CPS and other service providers on behalf of the service user.

· Provide information and support in relation to Criminal Injuries Compensation.

· Help clients to develop their own support network.

· To understand and assess other support needs of clients, for example translation or interpretation needs and be fully aware of available resources.

· Where an assault is related to domestic violence and the client is assessed as high risk, refer on to Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) following locally agreed protocols (including working proactively with the Independent Domestic Violence Advisor Service), attend and participate in meetings and follow-up on actions agreed in MARAC.

· Contribute to the development of policies, protocols, guidelines, strategies within practice area if necessary.

· Collate areas of service gap and service inadequacy to feed back to the commissioner and the relevant strategic groups.

· Note and feed back to the commissioner and the relevant strategic groups or other appropriate body any consistent difficulties clients are having accessing services.

RASASC is a registered charity which has been providing support to survivors of rape and sexual abuse of all genders (both recent and non-recent) and young people aged over 13, from across Surrey since 1992.

We provide an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) Service. ISVAs support survivors to help them overcome the abuse they have suffered and to rebuild their lives. This service also includes supporting the survivor to seek justice through the judicial system, should the survivor wish.

We also provide one-to-one counselling, group work, youth counselling and a family support programme, and a national Telephone Helpline.

Volunteers are an important part of the work we do. Volunteers staff our Helpline and many of our qualified counsellors work on a voluntary basis with survivors of rape and sexual abuse.

ISVA

ISVAs are survivor-focused advocates, who support survivors of recent and non-recent rape and sexual abuse to enable them to access the services they need in the aftermath of the abuse they have experienced. An ISVA provides individual support and this will vary from client to client.  

This role is based at the RASASC Guildford office and will work across Surrey. The ISVA must have a full driving licence and use of a car that can be used for work purposes.

You will be part of a dedicated, experienced, and friendly team consisting of Eleven ISVAs. The ISVAs meet fortnightly for peer support and work collaboratively with each other to share knowledge. Each ISVA has a lead area of responsibility in addition to your caseload supporting a range of clients.

You will be provided with monthly clinical supervision and attend monthly one-to-one meetings with the ISVA team leader.

Job Description

• To support survivors of rape and sexual abuse.
• It is the responsibility of the ISVA to impartially advise the client on all options open to them, such as the Criminal Justice System, SARC, GUM clinic and other local services.
• The ISVAs are expected to balance a caseload that includes survivors progressing through the criminal justice process as well as survivors that have decided not to report, or who are no longer in the criminal justice process.
• The ISVA will be based at Guildford RASASC but will be expected to travel throughout Surrey.
• The ISVA is expected to carry out other duties from time to time which are broadly consistent with those in this document, as the job description cannot cover every issue which may arise within the post.

 Key Tasks

· The ISVA will provide a survivor-focused, independent service, distinct from the role of a crisis worker or counsellor.

· Undertake risk assessment and support needs analysis with survivor and develop a support plan for the survivor.

· To provide advice and support across a wide range of issues, such as housing, health and education, that will help to support the survivor and ensure their ongoing safety in the aftermath of the abuse.

· Manage caseload and maintain necessary case files and records including monitoring information as required under funding conditions and by RASASC.

· To provide expert advice and support in relation to issues and the impact of rape and sexual abuse on this client group to other members of the ISVA team as well as the wider RASASC team. 

The ISVA will be required to undertake accredited training specifically designed to support them in delivering this service. This training is delivered virtually and is over six modules. Each module is taught over two consecutive days to minimise the amount of time ISVAs are away.

One of the core ways that we do this is through our DVA Car™ service and Helpline service.

 Our DVA Cars™ provide a service whereby every Friday and Saturday night, the project worker works alongside a police officer, attending reports of domestic abuse offering support to victims.

Our Helpline operates Out of Hours giving victims somewhere to call when other services are closed. The aim is to offer independent support and advice to victims and survivors during that window of opportunity: the moment they make the choice to reach out for help.

The candidate will be passionate about supporting survivors of domestic violence and abuse and wants to play a pivotal role in helping victims at the point of crisis.  Part one:

In order to provide this support, health care professionals themselves require the appropriate knowledge and skills. The Domestic Abuse Coordinator’s role will incorporate effective education and training, and also provide the essential link between health and specialist domestic abuse service providers in hospital. The Coordinator will set up and grow a network of Domestic Abuse Champions throughout the Trust. Regular meetings and communication sessions will be established to enable sharing of experience and ideas, which will strengthen knowledge and directly feed into any policy or process improvements.

To be successful you will need;

· Relevant, successful experience in Domestic Violence advocacy, using knowledge and expertise to provide support and guidance to staff.

· Developing and delivering quality, relevant and up to date training programmes to increase staff awareness.

· Effective partnership working, building capacity & community links for improved understanding and responses.

· The ability to monitor and evaluate outcomes against performance indicators to support the development of practice, policy and to inform future strategy.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· Experience of change management and effecting change to both lead and motivate teams.

· Work alongside Safeguarding teams, sharing best practice

· An IDVA qualification

We are seeking a committed and resilient Specialist Multiple Disadvantage Worker to join our dedicated team at our Female Supported Accommodation Service. Our service provides vital support to women facing a range of complex challenges, including homelessness, substance misuse, mental health issues, and experiences of violence and abuse.

As a Specialist Multiple Disadvantage Worker, you will:

• Provide specialist interventions and one-to-one support to a caseload of women with complex needs.
• Work within a Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE), utilising trauma-informed practices to support women who may have experienced rough sleeping, domestic violence (DV), or violence against women and girls (VAWG).
• Collaborate with external agencies such as Adult Social Care, Health, Mental Health, and other specialist providers to enhance access to services and improve outcomes.
• Support and guide Project Workers, sharing your expertise and setting best practice standards for complex needs support.
• Advocate for your clients, helping them navigate the health and social care systems to access the services they deserve.
• Work creatively and flexibly to engage with hard-to-reach clients, providing them with the confidence and skills to maintain their progress.

Women and Girls Network (WGN) was established in 1987 and has spent over 30 years supporting women and girls across London affected by gendered violence. This includes childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, rape, prostitution (including trafficking and sexual exploitation), female genital mutilation (FGM), and so-called ‘honour’ based crimes such as forced marriage.

Our goal is to promote, preserve, and restore the mental health and wellbeing of women and girls, to empower them to make a total and sustainable recovery from the experiences of violence. About the role

Reporting into the Financial Controller, the Finance Business Partner works closely with stakeholders across the organisation, including Executive Leadership, with a specific focus on working closely with the project leads for all our funded services. Although the organisation is well established, this is a growing sector, and the organisation has gone through rapid change over the past few years and is therefore offering the right candidate a great opportunity to deliver change and make a real difference to WGN’s staff and clients.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Multiple Disadvantage and Homelessness programme. The programme was set up in 2017 in response to the gap in provision for meeting the unique needs of women experiencing domestic abuse, homelessness and other forms of multiple disadvantage. By ‘Multiple Disadvantage’ we are referring to those with cooccurring experiences of homelessness, substance misuse, interpersonal violence and abuse and poor mental health (Gender Matters). We recognise that multiple disadvantage is a systemic, not an individual issue; structural inequality creates the conditions in which experiences of poverty, abuse, trauma and neglect intersect. In addition, disadvantage is further compounded by systemic discrimination based on concepts of identity, such as age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, disability, religion, or belief. There are currently three funded projects that make up
the programme, that are united by a common purpose:

We work across sectors to educate organisations around the needs of survivors of abuse and other forms of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) who experience homelessness and severe and multiple disadvantage.
We work to highlight the structural barriers this group face in accessing services and support and build a coordinated community response to domestic abuse, VAWG and multiple disadvantage.
We work to change the systems that create and reinforce multiple disadvantage in the lives of survivors of domestic abuse and VAWG by supporting organisations to pilot and embed new approaches and by engaging with policy and commissioning at both the local and national level.

We are looking for someone with direct experience of working with women impacted by multiple disadvantage, who can draw on this experience to lead on the delivery of programme workstreams, in particular our Housing First work and partnership work with Westminster Council Changing Futures project around VAWG and multiple disadvantage. You will have strong project management skills and experience and the flexibility to work across multiple workstreams at once.

We are looking for a creative and passionate, motivated, and engaging person who can build and maintain strong partnerships with a range of stakeholders, and advocate for women and survivors of domestic abuse impacted by multiple disadvantage across sectors and at the highest level. At STADA we know a coordinated community response to domestic abuse, VAWG and multiple disadvantage is essential to enable women and survivors to access the housing and support that they need, and to change the systems that reinforce suffering and discrimination for this cohort.
