VOLUNTEER TREASURER
We are the only charity in Kingston uniquely dedicated to assist those who provide unpaid care for someone experiencing Mental Health difficulties. Founded 20 years ago, we assist individual Carers (ie Family, Friends) with advice, guidance and peer support. As well as 1:1 support, we also have a monthly group where members can meet others to share lived-experience, and a weekly newsletter.
We also act as the collective voice to represent the views and concerns of these Carers. We are recognised in this campaigning role by statutory services in the Royal Borough of Kingston and SW London who engage us as active members of relevant committees and strategy groups, and we also partner with other third-sector organisations.
We are keen to further develop our service and we invite a volunteer with financial experience to help us achieve this. Whilst KMHCF is fully funded for its present activities, we will look to the Treasurer to guide us towards funding opportunities for future expansion, and to take the lead on the application processes.
Our financial activity is very low at the moment, but you would need to maintain financial control and ensure we comply with our legal responsibilities as a Registered Charity.
You should ideally have experience of serving in a small charity, or have appropriate transferrable skills.
It would be good if you have some awareness of Mental Health yourself, but this is not essential. Most of all, you should have the enthusiasm to serve Carers who can often feel isolated and bewildered.
The Treasurer would be part of our Management Committee which meets about every two months on a mid-week evening. Otherwise, the role is home-based. However, we welcome offers from our Committee to attend other meetings to represent the Forum or to take responsibility for leading projects, as they feel able.
The role is expected to lead to a Trustee position.
If you have the drive to make a real difference for Carers, please contact us for an informal discussion as a first step towards joining us.
What is your relevant experience?
Where are you located?
What do you feel that you can bring to the work of KMHCF?
To offer support, advice and guidance to unpaid Carers, who can often feel isolated.

Who we are.
At Brainkind, we’re at an exciting stage of our journey, and we’re seeking passionate, expert Trustees to help guide us as we continue our ambitious growth.
Formerly known as The Disabilities Trust, we have over 40 years of experience in brain injury rehabilitation. In 2023, we relaunched as Brainkind, signalling a bold new chapter in our mission to champion the rights and recovery of people affected by brain injury living with neurological conditions.
We are the UK’s leading charity supporting people living with acquired brain injuries and other neurological conditions. Our services include independent hospitals, neurological centres, residential homes, and supported living services.
In 2023, we successfully acquired three new neurological care services to support people with Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s, and multiple sclerosis. We are also proud to have opened our purpose-built neurological hospital in York—an award-winning building that shows just how services like ours should be built. Next year, we will open a new neurobehavioural rehabilitation service in Hertfordshire.
We’re two years into a seven-year strategy designed to expand our services, amplify our voice in the sector, advocate for social change, and improve funding, awareness and prioritisation.
Why join us?
As a Trustee, you will play a pivotal role in helping us:
- Expand and enhance our services for people affected by brain injuries and complex neurological conditions.
- Strengthen partnerships and identify gaps in the current support systems.
- Advocate for policy change to improve the lives of those living with brain injuries, as seen in our groundbreaking research report on domestic abuse, Too Many to Count.
- Drive innovation in rehabilitation services, from our work in the prison system to new service acquisitions and site developments.
We’re navigating one of the most challenging environments for funding and recruitment the sector has ever faced. That’s why your experience—whether in commercial, health, or social care sectors—will be invaluable in helping us build a sustainable future.
Why Brainkind?
- We are dedicated to clinical excellence and delivering innovative, personalised therapies that change lives.
- We’re growing rapidly with new services and expanded capacity, all aimed at making a real difference for those we support.
- With nearly 2,000 talented staff members, we are united in our mission to push boundaries and offer world-class rehabilitation.
But we can’t do it alone. As we begin to plan for a succession for the future of our Board, we need dedicated people who share our passion for making a lasting difference. If you’re ready to bring your expertise and energy to help shape the future of brain injury support, we want to hear from you.
Who we are looking for.
We are looking for up to five new Trustees to join us with the following skills and experience:
- Digital and marketing and/or data analytics
- Communications, policy influencing and fundraising
- Commercial finance
- Social care and health

Our Trustees scrutinise, constructively challenge, and support the senior leadership team in pursuing its mission and ambitions. They promote our values and hold the executive accountable for meeting agreed-upon goals and strategic objectives. This is an exciting time to be part of the next stage of development of a new brand which is committed to quality care and being a thought leader in acquired brain injury.
We believe that our success rests upon the diversity of skill, experience and backgrounds at all levels of the organisation, and we want to foster a diverse and inclusive culture. Royal Hospital for Neurodisability
Role: Trustees (Members of the Board of Governors)
Remuneration: This is a voluntary position but includes reasonable expenses.
Location: Can be based anywhere in the UK but will be expected to attend in person Board and Committee meetings in Putney
The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) is a charity, independent from the NHS but working closely with it, to provide the best possible care for people living with neuro-disability. The RHN exists today as one of the oldest, independent charity hospitals in the UK, which has now been caring for people with complex neuro-disability for over 160 years.
At RHN, we don’t just treat people with profound disabilities, we care for them as individuals, creating care plans that resonate with them on a personal level, and offering practical and emotional support to them and their families every step of their journey.
Our ‘The Path to Excellence’ strategy embodies the RHN’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. With recent successes like being the first independent UK hospital to receive ANCC Pathway to Excellence® accreditation and having been awarded with the Race Equality Matters Bronze Trailblazer Status, we show we are capable of fantastic achievements.
As we look to the future, RHN is seeking new trustees to join in our mission. We are looking for individuals who share our passion and dedication to providing exceptional care, innovative research, and shaping the future of care for those affected by complex brain injury and neurological conditions.
We are seeking to appoint four more trustees to be Board members and members of at least one major committee.
The Board is looking for the following areas of specialism to complement our already strong leadership structure:
- Fundraising - an experienced and entrepreneurial fundraising leader that can demonstrate impact at scale and is equipped to drive strategy and growth including diversification of funding sources
- Technology – someone who can support the hospital to harness data insight and use Digital, Data, Technology and AI to drive strategy to support the ambitions of the charity
- Human Resources – an experienced HR leader that brings experience of delivering people strategy and organisational development initiatives in complex environments
- Legal - someone who can bring knowledge and skills from practising law to the hospital, ensuring compliance, sound governance and adherence to charity law
The RHN is a diverse organisation, in its staff and its patients and residents, and is keen that its Board of Governors should reflect that diversity. While it is essential that the Board must contain members with significant Board experience, the RHN welcomes applicants with less direct Board experience who have the other skills which it is seeking and can make an important contribution to the Board as a whole.
For a confidential discussion please contact our recruitment advisers at GatenbySanderson.
Closing date: 9am 15th November 2024
The RHN is a charity, independent from the NHS but working closely with it, to provide the best possible care for people living with neuro-disability.

At Emmaus we're working together to end homelessness.
Whether you're an experienced Trustee or wanting to take your first step at board level we want to hear from you.
Emmaus Gloucestershire supports formerly homeless people by giving them a home, meaningful work in a social enterprise and an opportunity to get themselves back on their feet again.
For many people who experience homelessness, one of the biggest obstacles they must overcome is a loss of self-esteem. Emmaus provides an opportunity to regain this, with a chance to make a real contribution to their community.
Emmaus communities are not hostels for the homeless; they provide a home for as long as someone needs it. For many, this support and stability is like the family they don’t have, providing a safe environment in which to settle and re-build their lives. Often this is an opportunity to overcome issues such as addiction, get support with mental health issues or rebuild relationships with estranged family.
Like all charities, Emmaus Gloucestershire relies on a diverse group of people to become trustees and deliver good governance.
We aim to maintain a board of trustees which has people with individual expertise in leadership, organisation development, housing, marketing, fundraising, health and safety, legal and finance.
Alongside the usual duties of a trustee – including giving long term strategic direction to the charity, setting overall policy, ensuring effective and efficient administration and financial stability – Emmaus Gloucestershire’s trustees are expected to play a role in the life of the Emmaus Gloucestershire community.
It’s a unique community of people, with a shared goal in delivering financial sustainability and success for and with our companions. Trustees are encouraged to visit and maintain regular contact with the community, and where possible, spend time working alongside companions and join companions, staff, and volunteers for lunch.
The Emmaus Gloucestershire Board of Trustees meet quarterly in the evening, from 6.30pm, allowing those trustees who work during the day to participate and attend meetings. There are also occasional away days and potential opportunities to represent the community on a local, national, and international level.
This is an unsalaried volunteer role; however, we can pay travel expenses if required.
This is an in-person opportunity and applications are welcome from individuals living in Gloucestershire and it's neighbouring counties.

Please request a Trustee Information Pack via email .
Application Process
If on reading the information pack you would like to express an interest in becoming a trustee at Emmaus Gloucestershire, please send your CV and covering letter via email.
On receipt, you will be invited to an initial meeting at a mutually convenient time. Where possible, we do prefer trustee applicants to visit our community to meet with one or two trustees, staff and companions in person.
Following the initial meeting, the board will invite you to be an observer at one of the trustee meeting, prior to a decision made and confirmation of your appointment.
