The Baobab Centre is a non-residential therapeutic community that supports young asylum seekers and refugees who have experienced human rights abuses and have sought asylum in the UK as unaccompanied minors. Our two focus areas are rehabilitation and justice.

This is a unique opportunity for a passionate and experienced fundraiser to progress further in their career, with the freedom to creatively enhance and develop the fundraising strategy of an impactful community-based charity.

As Senior Fundraising Lead you will be Baobab’s key fundraiser and a self-starter with experience of working in a small or medium sized charity. You will lead on the development of fundraising at Baobab, exploring new avenues for funding, as well as nurturing and growing existing fundraising relationships. You will be responsible for strategising and carrying out a successful program of fundraising from small, medium and large charitable trusts and foundations to an agreed annual fundraising target. You will also assist in delivering Baobab’s individual major donor programme, helping to set up and deliver communications and events related to this income stream. There is scope to explore further fundraising activites including events, corporate and community fundraising. You will play a central role and work closely with our operations team, as well as recieving expert monthly mentoring from a senoir fundraising consultant. 

This role is for 4 or 5 days per week depending on your preference, it will include Fridays which is when staff meetings are held.

Mental Health:  All of the young people Baobab supports suffer significant mental health and developmental difficulties and many function in an unstable and more immature way than their chronological age. Due to their experiences it takes time to gain trust from the young people in our community. As a core member of our team, you will understand the impact of specific human rights abuses on the development of children and young people in exile and their individual experiences of loss, trauma and grief on their mental health and well-being.

It often takes a significant amount of time to understand Baobab’s model of working, which aims for rehabilitation and justice through attending to both the internal and external world of each young. It is important that you strive to have an insight to the experiences of both the internal and external factors impacting on the lives of unaccompanied young people attending our centre. It is also important that you understand the ways in which UK society and policy impacts on young asylum seekers (including invisibility, marginalisation, discrimination, and the fact of waiting in uncertainty for a long time).

The Bureau is the UK’s largest independent non-profit investigative journalism organisation. In the
last year, our investigations were published in over 100 countries across local, national,
international, specialist, TV and digital platforms. Our four global investigative teams work with
reporters around the world on priority cross-border issues – environment, health, corruption and
big tech. In addition, our UK-focused Bureau Local team uses an innovative community-led
approach to cover issues like insecure work, migrant rights and family courts, amplifying the voices

sparked legal challenges and informed policy change in the UK and across the world.

Our fundraising
At the Bureau, our funders and supporters are vital. We are almost entirely funded through grants
and donations so – put simply – without their support, we wouldn’t be here.

Although our supporters may come from different backgrounds or have varied priorities, they all
share a common goal: tackling the issues across our society that are eroding democracy and
driving inequality. They support our work to hold those in power accountable, uncover new
evidence to support positive change, and empower citizens.

The Bureau has experienced significant growth over the past three years, increasing our annual
income to £2.8m and expanding to a team of more than 40 people. While the majority of our
income comes from grants, there is strong potential for further fundraising growth, and we are
actively working to diversify our funding streams beyond trusts and foundations.

This is an exciting time to join The Bureau as we continue to build on our strong relationships with
existing supporters while exploring new funding opportunities.

Role and Responsibilities:
Support from trusts and foundations is our main source of philanthropic income so we are looking
for somebody with experience in grants fundraising who can quickly apply their skills and
expertise. You’ll work closely with our Development Director to report to and liaise with current
funders, manage a pipeline of prospects and submit successful applications to secure new grants.
In addition, you will support in building a major donor programme to diversify and strengthen our
funding base. You will collaborate with colleagues at all levels across the organisation, from impact
producers to reporters to finance and operations, in a supportive and welcoming culture that
values teamwork and shared success.

As an excellent communicator, you will be able to take complex issues and translate them into
clear, compelling narratives that resonate with funders and stakeholders. You will also be
passionate about building strong relationships with our funders and supporters.

While experience in high-net-worth fundraising would be a valuable bonus, it is not essential. You
don’t need to have raised funds for non-profit media before, but you do need to be excited by our
work and able to express The Bureau’s key areas of work and impact in an accessible, accurate and
compelling way. We’re a small team, so you’ll need the willingness to pitch in on fundraising tasks
– big or small – to ensure The Bureau is in the best possible position to pursue its mission.

Skills and Experience:

• Excellent fundraiser with a demonstrable track record of 3+ years’ experience successfully raising significant funds for charities or non-profits and managing relationships with funders (foundations - essential, high net worth individuals - desirable);
• Strong background in managing grants admin, including due diligence and processing agreements;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to speak and write English fluently;
• Great analytical skills, with experience in researching and identifying new funding sources for various projects;
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities;
• Experience of working with databases and funding pipelines;
• Exceptional time management skills, a professional attitude, and meticulous attention to detail;
• Resourceful and able to think creatively with strong problem-solving skills;
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to collaborate at all levels across the organisation.
• Experience in securing funds for journalism, social justice, civil society, human rights, or related causes is desirable but not essential;
• We envisage this as a full-time, primarily hybrid working role, working from our London office two/three times a week.

About The Role 

The Help for Heroes Community Development team are looking to recruit a team of Community Builders to assist in their reshaped participation and connection strategy. Using Asset Based Community Development, we seek to support the charity’s objective to enhance reach and positive impact for members of the Armed Forces Community facing challenges within their local communities.

Working closely with Community Development Managers across regions within the UK, the Community Builders will play a vital role in helping to improve lives for Armed Forces Community members by creating a supportive environment that allows them to re-engage and connect with the services at Help for Heroes and with the wider community. 

The main purpose of this role is to connect local people through their skills, passions and assets and support the creation of new connections, bringing people together to improve wellbeing and make the community a better place to live. This will include listening to different points of views, building relationships and motivating people to work together and create their own action influenced by their interests and skillsets to positively impact local communities and help them to flourish.

About You

You will have experience leading and facilitating the mobilisation of local communities, asset mapping, bringing together people for engagement that matters to them. You will have knowledge and experience of Asset Based Community Development work, outreach methods and you will have good organisational skills, energy and the ability to animate local communities. 

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver outreach to drive local connection, engagement and participation opportunities for the AFC 

• Develop and embed an ABCD informed way of work 

• Asset map 

• Organise and facilitate community meetings to share ideas, encourage collective decision making and build a sense of belonging 

• Encourage and pilot community lead action in response to local AFC needs/interests through peer led/co-designed initiatives 

• Increase awareness of the challenges faced by military personnel, veterans and their families

PLEASE NOTE: The successful candidates will need to be based within an hour’s commute of their allocated locality and there is a requirement to travel within a 75-mile radius of this location (travel expenses covered). Flexibility in working hours is necessary to ensure a total of 70 hours is covered over a 2-week period so please take this into consideration before applying.

• A Community Development qualification and/or at least 3 years' experience working within a community development or similar role, with responsibility for bringing about social change and improving quality of life 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop relationships which lead to actions  

• Demonstrable experience within an integrated multi-disciplinary service  

• Experience of engaging and working collaboratively with partners/stakeholders 

About the Team 

You will work as part of the Community Development team; this newly formed team will approach working in defined localities using an asset based community development approach. Together the Community Development Managers and the Community Builders will strengthen local communities using resources and networks that are readily available. You will do this to proliferate opportunities for sustainable participation and engagement alongside a multi-disciplinary team in order to support the Armed Forces Community to live well after service.

What a day might look like for you

Here at RSPCA we know it's a cliche but no two days are the same. We've added a short summary of what a typical day might look like, for a full insight please refer to the attached job description.

Tasks:

• Write and research press releases, statements for journalists, Q&As and other output on a wealth of animal welfare topics; ensuring these are in line with RSPCA policies.
• Respond quickly and effectively to queries from the media on the work, policies and campaigns of the RSPCA by writing statements and following the sign off procedure.
• Be a national and local spokesperson on general and speciality animal welfare issues, undertaking radio/TV interviews as required.
• Respond reactively to local and national journalists calls, emails and enquiries.
• Gather and generate news stories from across the organisation - on a variety of topics, including RSPCA campaigns, pets up for rehoming, statistical trends, education and more.
• Promote the RSPCA's frontline, campaigns and policy work, by devising communications plans and formulating ideas for press releases, media launches and other tools to engage with journalists.
• Analyse and report on the impact of RSPCA press output - both in terms of media coverage gained; traction with key target media; but also its wider impact in supporting the organisational objectives and new RSPCA Strategy.
• Develop and formulate relationships with key media outlets and journalists, including the successful pitching of stories.
• Initiate and maintain contacts with all relevant journalists, broadcasters and PR agencies, internal departments and other departments.
• Collate and analyse key RSPCA and animal welfare statistics.
• Brief RSPCA spokespeople before media appearances and interviews; preparing them appropriately and in line with the charity's policies and strategy.
• Monitor the media landscape as it relates to the RSPCA, animal welfare and the third sector; and produce reports as required in relation to coverage.
• Write copy on RSPCA court stories, utilising a knowledge of media law and court reporting to ensure output adheres to legal requirements and RSPCA processes. 
• Writing for and adding content to the RSPCA website; and working closely with the RSPCA's social media, broadcast, web and other comms-focussed teams to communicate key messages to supporters and the wider public. 

What makes a great National Press Officer?

You'll have:

• Previous experience working either as a journalist, a press officer or in a PR/comms environment, combined with the ability to build good working relationships both within and outside of the organisation.
• Ability to deliver to deadlines, working off your own initiative.
• A proactive and independent approach to work and newsgathering.
• Either an NCTJ qualification - which includes the modules of media law and court reporting; a relevant PR or Communications qualification, or demonstrable relevant experience.
• Good working knowledge of Google applications/Word and typing skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel to RSPCA locations and events, if necessary.
• Ability to prioritise own workload and take a flexible approach to work duties.
• Willingness to work occasional unsociable hours.

Regional Communications Manager

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on communications all-rounder with a breadth of skills to help deliver the strategic communications objectives for a national youth charity.

The charity is poised at an exciting phase of growth, with seven large scale youth centres (called Youth Zones) set to open over the next three years, a new three year organisational strategy, and an ambitious strategic communications strategy to support this in place.

About the Role

This is a key role within the communications team that will see you create understanding and awareness between the organisation and the key local and regional audiences that matter, as the charity embarks on its biggest ever period of growth. 

This role will involve managing a small portfolio of local end-to-end integrated communications and PR programmes at various stages, to launch new Youth Zones in Barnsley, Crewe, Grimsby and Preston.  You will work closely with each Youth Zone’s Relationship Managers and Fundraisers, as well as its CEO, and Trustee Board, and Young People's Development Group, acting as their trusted communications advisor.

In addition, you will oversee and lead a fundraising focussed communications and marketing campaign to boost reach to new funders (who we call Founder Patrons) in the areas where there are new Youth Zones.

The breadth of this role means no two days are the same, which is why we are seeking somebody organised, dynamic and self-motivated with exceptional project management and stakeholder management skills.

About You

We will be looking for someone that can demonstrate a broad range of communications skills from working with local media to place newsworthy, positive stories around the Youth Zones development, to supporting the development of new Youth Zones websites.

If you are as confident pitching a story to media as you are managing a branding project or overseeing an event, then this could be the role for you.

There will also be opportunities to contribute to the national communications plan, working closely with the Director of Communications and Brand on several high-profile projects, including overseeing and launching the new Youth Advocates programme, working with young people across the Network.

We are excited to be seeking a talented and motivated individual to join Southampton Hospitals Charity as our Head of Grants and Programmes. This will be our first Head of Grants and Programme role and will provide the right candidate with a rare opportunity to implement and oversee the delivery of the Charity’s new £2.5 million dedicated grant programmes from pre to post award.

Covering four programmes (Patient Care, Research & Development, Clinical Innovation and Staff Education & Improvement), the post holder will be responsible for managing circa £2.5M of expenditure each year, ensuring they deliver impact for patients, staff and donors. 

This role will be key, as we launch our ambitious new strategy to grow our reach and impact, and this opportunity offers the right candidate the chance to implement new ways of working as part of the management team and leading a committed team. 

This role would also oversee the programmes delivered by the Charity, offering the opportunity to grow these areas of work and directly influence the impact on patients and difference we make.

Main Responsibilities:

Grant Management & Compliance  

• Oversee the delivery of the charity’s dedicated grant programmes from pre to post award: Patient Care, Research & Development, Clinical Innovation and Staff Education & Improvement. The post holder will be responsible for circa £2.5M expenditure per annum ensuring they deliver impact for patients, staff and donors (grant values typically range from £2K to <£0.5M) 

• Oversee the management of the charity's current grant portfolio; ensuring grants are delivered on time and in accordance with internal processes 

• Ensure compliance with financial obligations (inc. payments, reconciliations and audits) and regulatory obligations (inc. data management, grant award contracts, procurement) 

• Ensure grant making processes reflects and champion current best practice

• Oversee the implementation and management of a Grants Advisory Committee 

Relationship & Stakeholder Management 

• Build relationships with key stakeholders within UHS, including senior health professionals, executive team members, partners and beneficiaries

About the Role

Over the last two years the organisation has developed some outstanding national partnerships. This is a newly created position designed to maximise the potential of national partnerships by joining the successful Grant Partnerships Team and collaborating with teams in volunteering, impact, and storytelling.

We need you because the team are busy helping to give life changing opportunities to young people across the country. With seven large-scale youth centres (Youth Zones) set to join their existing network of 15, the organisation will soon be reaching more young people than ever before. Grant Partnerships with national partners has been instrumental in making expansion and ongoing support possible. As the organisation embarks on a new three-year strategy and is ready to take collaborations with national partners to new heights. This is where you come in!

So what will you be doing?

With support from the Head of Grant Partnerships, you will collaborate with colleagues, Youth Zones and partners to ensure vibrant relations between national funders and the charity. Operationally you will achieve this by supporting the stewardship pipeline system to ensure national partners feel connected to the everyday impact and stories that their support brings. You will also develop your own portfolio of national funding prospects and opportunities that may also include ‘Charity of the Year’ and fundraising events.

Success will be defined by how ‘above and beyond the grant terms’ engagement is with national partners and how they recognise themselves as an active part of the difference the team are making to over 55,000 young people.

You are an excellent communicator who can craft persuasive written proposals and present complex information in a clear, impactful way.
