General Function:
The Business Officer will work for the Europe & Eurasia Programme Management Unit (PMU) and will provide the highest standards of financial and administrative support to European funded Internews EE Programmes. We are looking for a responsible and professional individual to perform a variety of financial and administrative tasks. Duties of the Business Officer will include the financial administration of current projects, oversight of project budgets and partner spending, facilitation of payment requests, budgetary projections and other financial and administrative duties that may be required during this period.
The Business Officer will work closely with the Senior Programme Officer, the Senior Business Associate and the Programme Finance Business Partner to provide timely and quality support to programmes as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial administration of Internews’s projects:
- Review project expenditure and ensure accuracy of coding.
- Manage cash-flow to ensure the availability of project funds at Internews’ offices.
- Work with Programme Finance Business Partners (PFBPs) to prepare financial reports for donors, prepare notes for financial reports, and ensure that costs are reported in compliance with donor requirements.
- Monitor co-financing plans.
- Advise project teams on the correct application of HQ policies and processes, including on procurement, travel, etc.
Budget oversight:
- Review budget-versus-actuals and facilitate forecasting in line with project activities.
- Support partners with budget planning.
- Align internal templates to donor formats for effective monitoring and reporting.
- Sub-grants oversight and keeping SGA (Sub-Grant Agreements) tracker:
- Support Internews’ partners to prepare budgets under sub-grant agreements.
- Review financial reports from partners when required and coordinate corrections as required.
Payments and administration:
- Coordinate payment requests to London, including reviews, confirmations, and follow-ups.
- Monitor donor income and prepare requests for disbursements to donors.
- Review and verify suppliers’ invoices to London HQ and Internews’ accounting department in California.
- Support Accounting field teams in terms of induction and refreshment training regarding Internews and donors’ procedures and policies.
- Budget development: work closely with Senior Programme Officer, Senior Business Associate and country offices to develop budgets for new proposals. Coordinate on the development of co-financing approaches and plans for opportunities with the European Commission and other European donors.
- Help set up business processes for new projects, including the preparation of requests for Personal Service Contracts.
- Support the process of staff contracting for projects.
- Help project teams with staff charges to relevant projects.
- Other tasks: participate in project audits carried out at the HQ as required by the London finance controls team.
- Other financial and administrative tasks may be assigned as required.
Requirements:
- Relevant degree (preferable) in Accounting, Business Administration or Financial management.
- Qualification in Accounting (Knowledge of ERP (Agresso) will be a plus)
- At least three years of experience working in a similar capacity.
- Experience with European funders (European Commission, SIDA, FCDO, GIZ etc.)
- Proficiency in MS Office. Advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
- Fluency in English and Russian (both written and spoken).
- Creative and a good team player.
- Excellent multitasking skills.
- Good prioritization skills and the ability to solve immediate problems.

Supporter development

The Role
The team are determined to increase the prominence of legacies both internally and externally in order to grow and protect this important income stream, which accounts for over half of donated income.

Key Strategic Deliverables will include the following:

Metabolic Support UK (MSUK) is the umbrella patient organisation for people living with and affected by Inherited Metabolic Disorders (IMDs). We are a UK-based organisation with an international reach. There are approximately 40,000 people in the UK living with one of around 1,500 IMDs. Globally an estimated 71, 260 people are born with these conditions each year and 1.43 million people live with IMDs worldwide.

The role
MSUK is looking to recruit a dynamic, ambitious and confident Fundraising Manager to work with the Chief Executive to develop and implement our income strategy. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Fundraising Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be a core member of the team, developing and delivering the income stream for the charity with fundraising strategies that support MSUK’s mission. The role will report to the Chief Executive and will be responsible for driving forward all aspects of fundraising, including building corporate partnerships, individual giving, major donors, trusts and foundations, legacies and community. The MSUK team is a small but agile team and we expect the successful candidate to be a self-starter with a “can do” attitude, lots of energy and an ability to work autonomously. This is an exciting opportunity to join an exciting and progressive charity and to work with a fun, committed and established team.
Please note this is a remote working position but candidates will need to live permanently in the UK be able to travel to Manchester/Midlands for regular team meetings and across the UK at short notice for community events and meetings.
Main Responsibilities:
Fundraising Management and Development

Work with the Chief Executive to develop and implement a balanced and realistic fundraising strategy, which builds on MSUK strengths and maximises income for the charity.

Deliver an integrated fundraising programme, which includes corporate partnerships, individual giving, major donors, trusts and foundations, legacies, community and events.

Ensure all fundraising activity is compliant with GDPR and relevant fundraising regulation and that all data is accurate and maintained efficiently.

To maintain and develop the donor CRM platform (currently Nutshell) including building supporter journeys to enhance donor experiences and maximise income for the charity.

Provide up to date funding reports and fundraising forecasts for the board

Work with the team to ensure that all opportunities to promote MSUK and develop our fundraising and supporter engagement experiences are explored and maximised.

With the CEO, manage all aspects of finance and reporting relating to fundraising, including annual budgets, monthly reporting and re-forecasting. Provide monthly reports and updates on all fundraising activities and income streams

Work with the communications team, internal colleagues and external stakeholders to create impactful storytelling and supporter engagement opportunities to maximise revenue streams.

Required experience and skills

Proven experience working in a charity with responsibility for income

Experience developing and managing a diverse fundraising portfolio with significant expertise in at least one of charitable trusts and grants, corporate partnerships and major donors

Experience of managing fundraising budgets and ability to make informed forecasts
about income and return on investment

Experience of effective time management, working to tight deadlines and prioritising conflicting priorities successfully

Experience in managing successful cross-functional relationships, internally and externally
Skills & Attributes

We are looking for an ambitious, experienced and creative fundraising expert who is committed to building upon a strong programme of fundraising whilst bringing in new initiatives to see the charity's income significantly grow.
Reporting to the Head of Fundraising, the post holder will work across multiple income streams, to develop innovative products and tools to engage our supporters and maximise and grow our income generation strategy and lifetime value of our supporters. You will develop high-level community and third-party relationships and events that lead to long-lasting relationships and long-term support for Dreams Come True.
Strategy & Budget Management
● Work with the Head of Fundraising to deliver a strategy and Ops plan that covers Community, Events, Mass, and third-party Fundraising.
● Support the Fundraising Executive to project manage an existing portfolio of events and introduce new products to grow the programme, incorporating digital/virtual fundraising.
● Review the portfolio of events and build new income generation opportunities for 25/26 and beyond to uplift income and grow supporter participation.
● Set, monitor, and report against budget figures, feeding into forecasting and monthly KPIs, and reporting any concerns to the Head of Fundraising.
● Lead the development and growth strategy for third-party relationships and high-value community supporters.
● Undertake regular reviews of activity including ROI analysis, report progress v budget, and implement actions as required.
● Lead on Identifying new opportunities for community grant funding including but not limited to supermarkets, round tables, rotary, masons, golf clubs, sports clubs, and schools.
● To provide excellent analysis, evaluation, and reporting on fundraising activity to the Head of Fundraising, drawing conclusions and making recommendations for future activity.
General
• The ability to write and present compelling cases for support across a range of audiences.
• To keep up to date with the latest event trends and bring creative suggestions to the programme of work to continuously test and learn, engage new supporters and drive new income opportunities
• To work closely with Dream Team, to keep updated with Dream stories and use a range of methods, to effectively communicate these to all supporters
• To introduce new products to grow the programme - including digital/virtual fundraising and mass fundraising events.
• Manage the Fundraising Executive, ensuring they have a robust work and development plan in place.
• Support, motivate and develop fundraising volunteer roles, ensuring they have a clear understanding of DCT to enable them to represent the charity’s work effectively.
• Grow our Events programme, developing plans to recruit, convert, retain, and develop donors to deliver income growth across the portfolio.
• Diversify the organisation's overall regional events portfolio by leading product development.
• Manage the relationships with external event suppliers.
• Work collaboratively with the Head of Fundraising to build and grow existing fundraising digital products and generate new initiatives to drive income.
• Manage the Fundraising Executive to develop propositions for the wider community fundraising work.
• Provide talks and presentations to high-value community organisations.
• Provide support in other areas of Fundraising and the Head of Fundraising when required
