Starfish is an international development charity aiming to bring life, hope and opportunity to children in South Africa who have been orphaned or made vulnerable through HIV/AIDS and poverty. Starfish are looking for an enthusiastic person who is passionate about international development with good writing skills. The internship will be varied and include: researching trusts and foundations, writing applications, sending out applications & reports, managing progress on a centralised calendar, using your initiative. The Starfish UK London office is fairly small and therefore you will become very much part of the team, being able to experience the operations of a dynamic international charity. This is a great opportunity to gain invaluable experience and enhance your CV. Desired experience - Use of Microsoft packages, organisational skills, good communication skills, research skills and the ability to work well in a team.

This position is for 3 days a week, working from home, potential for hybrid in central London office. 

Ikoku Protection and Justice

Ikoku Protection and Justice empowers and supports juvenile offenders in Uganda through legal aid, psychosocial support, advocacy and stakeholder capacity building trainings to create a child-friendly justice system.

The lack of accessible and comprehensive legal Aid for juvenile offenders has led to countless wrongful detentions and prosecutions thus leading to congestion in the remand homes.

According to a 2021 UNICEF report, around 261,200 children worldwide are estimated to have been in detention on any given day in 2020. Despite the global scope of this issue, East Africa, including Uganda, lacks concrete statistical data to fully understand the extent of the challenges faced by juvenile offenders in accessing legal aid.

• Build pupil confidence in Maths.

• Have strong subject knowledge (confident enough to tutor up to GCSE)

• Work collaboratively with other tutors and mentors

• Have a minimum of an undergraduate degree or be working towards this

We will be delivering an array of highly effective projects engaging with hard to reach young people across England, particularly in areas of high need. We need an experienced Marketing & Communications Volunteer to join us who is able to set up and develop our communications, including running our social media platforms and creating a fantastic positive energy and buzz about Youth Mix and young people.

The role is what you make it and as a leader within the charity, you will have a massive input on the culture, comms and direction of the charity, creating an amazing platform for us to create a huge positive energy for both the charity and young people.

As this role is voluntary, the role offers great flexibility to fit around your time (including daytimes, evenings and/or weekends), where you will mostly manage your own workload, including mostly home based working. Volunteer Classroom Assistant (Online) – English, Maths, Science  

Where: 

Online (Zoom) / Nova New Opportunities, 2 Thorpe Close, W10 5XL

When: 

Immediately, minimum commitment of 3 months. 

Support 1-2 classes a week (45 minutes per class). 

English classes are currently held on Mondays and Wednesday between 16:30 and 19:15. 

Maths and Science classes are currently held on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 16:15 and 19:45.

Purpose of role: 

Support the Nova Family Programme tutors in facilitating online home school sessions.

Role Description: 

This role will be to act as a teaching assistant to tutors delivering online English, maths and science classes (for young people at Key Stage 2 and 3). With the disruption of Covid-19, many families have been thrown into the unknown world of home schooling – made even more challenging when your own education isn’t up to scratch or English is your second language. We are delivering a free programme of online home school support to those who have been most negatively impacted by being out of school. Now that Schools have reopened, we will be continuing these sessions to ensure that learners do not fall behind as Schools focus on catching up on lost learning. The aim is to support children who may be falling behind with their studies and mitigating as far as possible the widening attainment gap. 

You will: 

• Enjoy working in a team 

• Provide tutorial support 

• Position yourself as a resource for learners 

• Work one-on-one or with breakout groups of learners who need additional help 

• Facilitate the zoom classroom as required
