About the role
Kinship is undertaking a major feasibility Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) of Kinship Connected. This is aligned with recommendations set out in the Kinship Care Practice Guide published by Foundations (2024) and builds on evidence from the Kinship Navigator intervention of support for kinship carers in the USA.
This feasibility RCT is a complex, multi-partner programme involving:
- An active funding partner
- An independent evaluation team
- 5 participating local authorities (to be confirmed)
- Internal delivery teams and cross organisational services
- Kinship carers and lived experience subject experts
The Mobilisation and Delivery Project Manager is the operational engine of the programme, ensuring that every workstream is scoped, resourced, sequenced, delivered and evidenced, and that Kinship is trial-ready, compliant, and well-coordinated through set-up and delivery.
This role needs someone who is an excellent communicator, highly organised, unflappable, curious, and able to sit comfortably in the detail. The successful person will keep a firm grip on timelines, dependencies and risks.
You will manage a Programmes Officer as well as the set-up, processes, documentation, reporting, trial readiness, communications and cross-team coordination. You will work closely with the Programmes Manager who will share responsibility for ensuring high quality performance across the feasibility trial. You will both work closely with the core project team and partners.
You will lead operational quality, systems, processes, data, and compliance. The Programmes Manager will lead practice quality, staff development and supervision, safeguarding and relational delivery. Together you make sure the trial is delivered ethically, consistently and to a very high standard.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the mobilisation plan across all workstreams and ensure trial readiness.
- Develop all processes, documentation and operational frameworks in line with the intervention protocol.
- Coordinate local authority onboarding, staff training and internal operational setup with the Programmes Manager.
- Work with internal Kinship teams to ensure everyone has clear expectations and is held to account for their performance during mobilisation and delivery – owning the workstreams.

Ensure weekly pipeline monitoring for treatment and control recruitment.

Work with the Programmes Manager and Kinship Family Workers to strengthen referral and screening processes where appropriate.

Identify recruitment risks early and drive rapid problem-solving.

Lead operational quality assurance (QA) including data quality checks, file audits and process compliance.

Essential knowledge and experience includes:

Project Management Qualification or commensurate experience.

Proven experience designing and maintaining structured workflows, operational systems and project plans in fast-paced environments.

About the Role:

About the Role
As a Case Manager you will strive to make contact and work on a one-one basis with perpetrators to pro-actively secure engagement, influence attitudinal and behavioural change and link to complementary services. To do this you will work alongside existing agencies to design a co-ordinated, intervention plan, addressing identified needs and risk, and promoting understanding of the impact of abusive behaviours.
You will work closely with the IDVA's (integrated partner support) to review risk, develop safety plans, and improve outcomes for all parties involved. You will be passionate and committed to working within a multi-disciplinary team and will have a demonstrable track record of working with complex need service users. This may be within the field of domestic abuse and /or mental health, substance misuse and offending.

The Advice Service also provides a supported self-help offer and as a team we deliver promotional and preventative campaigns. This role will really suit you if you’re enthusiastic and approachable and would enjoy speaking to students and our stakeholders in a variety of settings. We’re also looking for candidates with an interest for writing social media and website copy and would like to be involved in designing and delivering presentations, interactive stalls, training and workshops.
You’ll be part of a small, supportive and dedicated team, working in a busy, varied environment that puts student wellbeing at the heart of everything we do. You’ll have access to training and continuing professional development to help you excel as a Student Advisor. You’ll also have regular opportunities for reflection and support for your wellbeing, including access to external restorative supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver One-to-One Support: Provide impartial, confidential advice on academic concerns (appeals, complaints, disciplinaries), housing issues, financial support, and personal or welfare-related challenges.
- Support in Crisis: Offer guidance and emotional support to students experiencing difficult or distressing circumstances, such as mental health issues, sexual violence, harassment, or financial insecurity.
- Create and Share Resources: Develop accessible self-help materials (articles, videos, workshops) to empower students and reduce reliance on one-to-one services.
- Promote the Service: Take part in outreach activities, including campaigns, events, and training, to raise awareness and improve access to advice and support.
- Track and Report Issues: Use our case management system to record casework clearly and securely and help monitor trends in student issues to inform future campaigns.
- Collaborate and Contribute: Work closely with colleagues across UMSU to support key periods like Welcome Week and elections, contributing to a supportive and inclusive student experience.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Communicates with clarity, compassion, and confidence.
- Is emotionally resilient and able to manage sensitive or complex situations calmly.
- Understands the importance of impartiality, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Is highly organised with strong attention to detail and time management skills.
- Can create clear, engaging written resources and deliver effective presentations.
- Is confident using IT systems and comfortable with data and record keeping.
Previous experience in advice, welfare, support work, or student services is helpful, but we welcome applications from those with transferable skills and a genuine passion for student support.
The Essentials
- Salary: £27,013 - £30,237 per annum
- Contract: Full-time, permanent (35 hours per week)
- Location: Hybrid working – typically 3+ days per week in our Advice Office on campus
- Eligibility: Open to applicants with relevant skills and experience who are eligible to work in the UK at the start of employment
