People & Culture

Lead the review and development of HR policies and processes to ensure that they embody People’s Economy’s values, and support effective working and staff wellbeing, drawing in external expertise as necessary.

Lead the development and implementation of recruitment processes for staff vacancies, ensuring compliance with People’s Economy’s recruitment policy and employment law.

Lead the implementation of formal HR processes e.g. disciplinary processes, contract variations, and act as the key point of contact with People’s Economy’s external HR advisers.

Operations

Develop and maintain People’s Economy’s IT systems, including working with external providers to review IT security.

Lead on regularly reviewing and updating People’s Economy’s remote and hybrid working policies and supporting colleagues to access suitable equipment and workspace to carry out their roles.

Support the Programme Director set up and manage the operation of People’s Economy’s monitoring, evaluation and learning systems and their embedding across the organisation.

Support the Executive Director to implement People’s Economy’s Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Oppression (DIAO) policy and lead the annual process of reviewing and updating the policy, and relevant organisational systems and processes to support the implementation of the policy.
Finance

Lead People’s Economy’s financial management and control, including:

Manage People’s Economy’s book-keeping and payroll providers to ensure that high quality records of income and expenditure are maintained and the smooth operation of supplier payments, invoicing, payroll and pensions contributions.

Oversee the timely production of regular financial reporting including management accounts, cash forecasting and quarterly reporting to the Board. Scrutinise regular finance reports and work to resolve any issues identified.

Liaise with People’s Economy’s accountant and manage the annual process of independent examination and producing year-end reports and accounts.

Lead on financial planning, including the preparation of an annual organisational budget and lead on updating budget information throughout the year.

Create systems and processes to support staff to develop and manage budgets for the programmes and projects that they are leading.

With support from the Executive Director, lead the development of organisational business plans and monitoring of progress against them, including reporting on progress to the Trustee Board.

About the Role
Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is responding to the largest emergency in our 40-year history. Over the last year support for our cause has seen significant growth in income as tens of thousands of supporters have joined MAP. Our challenge now is to retain this interest and ensure we sustain income as we respond to the ongoing emergency and the longer-term health of Palestinians over the coming years. With an ambition to be a £50m organisation in the next five years, our fundraising operations team, consisting of database and supporter care functions, will play a key role in enabling over one million Palestinians to access improved healthcare annually by 2028.
The Head of Fundraising Operations will enable fundraising operations to keep pace with the growth in income, futureproofing systems to ensure effective co-ordination and organisation to underpin fundraising activity, as well as delivering on an incredible supporter experience. Leadership, Strategy and Planning

We empower each woman by giving her the clothes and the confidence she needs to succeed. The Smart Works service is currently delivered in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Newcastle, Reading and Leeds, with new centres in Bristol and Liverpool due to open in 2025. ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a thoughtful and dedicated leader to oversee the delivery of the Smart Works service across the UK, ensuring that the charity remains on track to achieve our current growth ambitions, and to also play a key role in leading delivery of the service as we move into our next strategic plan.
The Head of Programmes will drive innovation, build impactful partnerships with referral organisations and enable excellent decision making across all centres. The Head of Programmes will be the guardian of the Smart Works service as the charity grows, ensuring decision-making across the charity is always client-centric and every client has the best possible chance of job success.
The Head of Programmes will oversee the opening of new Smart Works centres. Project managing the opening of new centres will require exceptional people management and an ability to balance important small details, with an awareness of the bigger picture and wider strategy.
The Head of Programmes will also be responsible for leading org-wide projects focused on quality, that will allow Smart Works to ensure our offer continues to improve, so that more of our clients can move into employment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities
- Support the CEO to manage the organisation and ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including finance, HR, health and safety, data protection, and deadlines for annual returns to Companies House, the Office of the Regulator of Community Interest Companies, and HMRC.
- Put in place governance and management systems to support the efficient operation of the business, and the achievement of strategic objectives and milestones agreed by the Global Black Thrive Board of Directors.

Leading People’s Economy’s approach to training
- With support from the Programme Director, lead the development of People’s Economy’s approach to training and workshops to create an approach and set of standards to be applied across the organisation.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial management
● Lead the setting, tracking and reporting of budgets and fundraising targets
● Maintain accurate records of income and expenditure on a cash and accrual basis
● Manage bookkeeping for the charity, including invoicing and bank reconciliations
● Keep accurate records of funding allocations, especially restricted and unrestricted income
● Work with our accountant to produce end-of-year accounts and prepare for audit
● Build strong relationships within The Economist Group finance team to support with financial management and compliance
● Ensure the charity remains tax compliant, including managing quarterly VAT returns and reviewing funding contracts
Operations, people and governance
● Build and maintain operational processes across the organisation which support the successful delivery of our work globally
● Support the team to accurately monitor and evaluate their progress towards targets
● Work with senior leadership and hiring managers to continually improve the recruitment and onboarding process
● Line manage the Programme Officer and support them to deliver programme and admin support
● Work with our company secretary to prepare annual accounts
Data management
● Manage GDPR-compliant data collection and storage, with accurate and up-to-date data to report on key targets
● Manage the presentation of data so that it is clear and accessible
● Build strong relationships across departments in The Economist Group to support with data management and legal contracts
● Work with team members to create and deliver comprehensive data metrics and collection plans and track progress towards KPIs on projects
● Work with our Head of Design and Product to lead on an upcoming digital transformation project including choosing an appropriate Customer Relationship Management system (CRM)

● A proven track record of developing and implementing operational policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and best practice
● Experience managing charity finances – you are confident with managing charity finances including managing restricted funding, reporting on fundraising pipeline status and preparing financial accounts
● Knowledge of charity tax law – you have experience managing VAT on donations, managing tax returns and have some understanding of corporation tax
