The British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) are exclusively partnering with Robertson Bell to recruit a Head of Finance & Shared Services to join their dynamic team on a permanent basis. BSAVA is the professional body that serves veterinary surgeons and nurses who treat companion animals and it exists to enable the veterinary profession and professionals thrive.
Reporting into the CEO and as a key member of the Leadership Team, this critical role will be responsible for the development of effective financial strategy to deliver the organisations strategic ambitions, whilst also supporting the strategic development, performance measurement and the optimisation of the Charity’s income.
The organisation:
Founded in 1957, BSAVA has gone from strength to strength to enable the community of small animal veterinary professionals to develop their knowledge and skills through leading-edge education, scientific research and collaboration. BSAVA currently boasts over 10,000 members, the majority of whom work in practice as veterinary surgeons or veterinary nurses, and there are several exciting projects on the horizon as part of their new strategic plan, of which this Head of Finance and Shared Services will play a leading role.
The role offers a full-time opportunity with an excellent benefits package including 7% contribution towards Group Personal Pension, private medical insurance, free parking on site and 25 days holiday (rising to 28 days after three years). The key duties of this Head of Finance & Shared Services role are as follows:
- Ensure that the charity complies with statutory, funding and tax regulations, fulfilling its requirements as a charity, company and employer.
- Work with the CEO and Trustees to enhance and improve the organisations governance functions.
- Lead the statutory audit process and production of the Annual Report, co-ordinating the completion of year end processes.
- Attend Board and Audit and Risk Committee meetings, providing clear and accurate reports to enable them to assess the associations financial, compliance and risk management situation.
- Develop a long-term financial strategy that will support the charity’s ambition for growth.
- Support the Chief Executive and LT with new business development and change management initiatives.
- Oversee the preparation of annual budgets and 3-year forecasts in accordance with the timescales laid down by the CEO.
- Make recommendations to further develop the Shared Services function in order to optimise resources and enhance the efficient running of the Association.
- Support the LT in development and review of business models, commercial proposals, optimising pricing strategies and analysis of potential revenue.
The successful candidate will have:
- Qualified as a finance professional or be qualified by demonstrable experience.
- Finance experience at a senior level, guiding executing and non-executive colleagues.
- Experience of producing and managing organisations budgets and forecasts.
- Experience of financial modelling and development of KPIs.
- Line management experience.
- Ideally, experience of charity accounting including preparing statutory accounts for audit.
- Experience of managing other business areas and support functions would also be an advantage.
- Ability to contribute effectively and constructively as a member of the Leadership Team

About the Role
Over the past 7 years, UnLtd have developed and built an investment offer for social purpose organisations. This has included the development and full deployment of two investment funds - UnLtd Impact Fund, and the Thrive Fund. - Managing technology, digital and data related risks enabling the organisation to manage its operations and services safely and securely.
- Analysing and managing the organisation’s data governance, information security and cyber resilience.
- Leading the development of a multi-year IT strategy which supports the aims of the charity’s three-year business plan – develops, executes, and keeps up to date strategies (IT, Digital, Data) that delivers agreed outcomes.
- Effectively leading, managing, motivating, and developing the team through regular supervision, appraisal, and performance management, to develop them to their full potential.
- Developing and sustaining excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, working with teams to both plan and deliver.
- Championing digitisation across the organisation, matching requirements to new digital products and the optimisation of current products.
The successful candidate will have at least 2 years’ experience of leading and managing a technology and/or digital department, with a background in developing and implementing effective technology/digital/data strategies. Experience of effective systems architecture and re-design is key, as is experience of procuring technology products and services and managing suppliers. You must also have a track record of delivering an end-user environment of more than 100 internal users and be confident in a range of cloud-based service platform providers and in managing in-house and outsourced managed services. Expert knowledge of digital and data IT security and governance requirements, including cyber security is a must, alongside experience of successfully managing departmental budgets in excess of £750k p.a.

The Head of Major Gifts leads the development and stewardship of their major donors. A key part of the role is to steward major donors including delivering an engagement programme with individuals who have the capacity to give 5-6 figure gifts as well as developing their new Artistic Director’s Circle, project syndicates and our annual Patron’s programme.
The role will work with the Director of Development to devise, develop and implement the major giving strategy, and ensure annual income targets are met by delivering on individual and team targets.
This is a 12-month maternity contract role. The salary will be £45- £50k and will consist of a hybrid working environment.

This is a key strategic role providing interim leadership to the Corporate Partnerships team, focused on driving innovation and growth, whilst aligning efforts with long-term organisational goals of ZSL. The postholder will spearhead the development of new, high-value business opportunities that reflect commercial priorities and elevate the profile and awareness of the crucial work of ZSL across the globe, and at London and Whipsnade Zoos.
The role will foster collaboration across internal teams to strengthen partnership opportunities, while ensuring exceptional account management to key partners, as well as responsibility of the Corporate Membership programme to guarantee a high-value experience for all members.
You will maintain strong financial oversight by tracking budgets and performance metrics, and support team success by cultivating a collaborative environment and offering guidance for professional growth to the wider team.
