Reporting into the CEO of this £3 million turnover cultural and historic environment focussed charity, you will be a qualified accountant and have strong technical accounting skills. You will oversee finance and business services day to day operations and be adept at building strong working relationships both internally and externally. You will be enthusiastic about the idea of joining an organisation that is looking to improve processes, procedures, and finance operations.
As the new Head of Finance & Business Services you will be part of the senior management team and be eager to develop skills outside your finance remit. This role will suit someone who is keen to play an integral part in the organisations ongoing success and as a member of the senior management team you will embrace the opportunity to support the CEO in the board room.
The job
- Oversee the finance operation, to include, statutory accounts and tax returns, quarterly management accounts, financial planning, and budgeting
- Ensure the charity’s insurance policies are fit for purpose to include leading relationship management with brokers
- Lead on pensions operational management, managing the contracts with external advisors and other relevant contracts as required
- Oversee the system of internal controls, including systems for delegated financial authority
- Lead on relationships with external auditors
- Oversee the management of tax affairs drawing on external advisors as needed.
- Act as Company Secretary, ensuring all corporate governance and compliance requirements are fulfilled for the charity
- Oversee procurement and contract management to ensure effective, value for money services are available to support all operational functions.
- Deliver a people plan and strategy for the organisation with progression routes for staff and continuous professional development
- Act as a lead for all HR matters, including strategic development and use of internal skills and outsourced suppliers

The person specification
- Fully qualified accountant, ACA, CIMA, CIPFA, or ACCA
- Demonstrable technical accounting skills to include statutory reporting
- Charity experience is essential
- Good understanding of charity finance and governance
- Desire to taken on a broader remit i.e. HR, IT
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience/knowledge of managing occupational pension schemes
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow skills
- Ability to work in the Welsh Language is desirable, but not essential, to this role.
- Experience with fundraising and grant management in the non-profit sector is desirable
- Proven leader with the ability to operate at senior executive level.
- Strong knowledge of organisational governance requirements.
- An interest and passion for the historic environment would be desirable
- Strategic approach to finance and business services to furthering charitable objects.
Salary & benefits

This is a senior role within our People & Organisational Development directorate. Reporting to the Associate Director, People Operations you will play a key role in supporting Marie Curie's 5-year strategy by enabling employees to focus their time on patients and services by implementing efficient, prompt, automated and human-focused processes across data, systems, administration, payroll and audit.
Your Role:
- Overall Direction and Development: Leading the payroll team, you will ensure efficient and accurate payroll processing.
- Strategic Planning: You will have the opportunity to develop and execute payroll strategies to align with organisational goals.
- Compliance: You will ensure adherence to all payroll-related financial, legal and corporate compliance requirements.
- Leading and driving improvement. You will understand organisational impacts and create and encourage a culture of continuous improvement.
Additional Criteria for Success:
- Proven track record in payroll management, preferably in a large and complex organisation (e.g. commercial, audited environments private or public sector). This should include operational management of service delivery to a diverse customer base.
- Strong payroll legislation knowledge.Including payroll laws and regulations, tax compliance, pensions, statutory payments and employment law. Associated audit and risk experience is a must.
- Payroll systems expertise. Highly proficient with payroll software (Oracle and/or Zellis is highly desirable). Advanced Excel is additionally required.
- Demonstrable experience managing and developing a team, with strong performance management and coaching/development skills.
- Project management experience. Proven achievements in leading payroll-related projects, such as systems implementations or process improvements.
- Strong ability to identify, assess and solve payroll-related issues with a proactive and strategic approach.
- Results oriented with a positive outlook, high level of motivation, enthusiasm and dedication to the mission and goals of Marie Curie.
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £65,000 - £70,000 pa dependent on skills, knowledge and experience.
Location: Home-based within the UK, with ad-hoc travel to London and Birmingham required.

Our client, a leading London University, is seeking to recruit a temporary Head of Student Casework on a full-time basis (35 hours per week). This role is for an initial 3-month period, with hybrid working—3 days on-site and the remainder remote—and an immediate start.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising on student casework policies and procedures.

About this role
We are pleased to advertise for a Head of Death Penalty Projects- US to oversee our work against the death penalty in the United States of America.
Reprieve has worked against the death penalty since our founding. In recent years we have built a particular specialism in issues relating to lethal injection, the most popular execution method in the US. Lethal injection has been touted as more humane than other methods – a modern, clean, clinical way to execute. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Lethal injection executions go wrong more often than any other execution method, often resulting in prolonged and torturous executions, commonly known as “botched” executions. Through our work we aim to dispel the myth of the humane execution, working with allies across medicine, business and other sectors to end the misuse of medicines and medical technology in executions.
The existing portfolio of work includes litigation, investigation and analysis, corporate engagement, a wide range of public and private advocacy, and developing and maintaining world-leading expertise on execution methods, particularly the jurisprudence and science relevant to lethal injection.
Contract, location and salary
The role is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of £59,226 per annum less any required deductions for tax and national insurance.Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work a minimum of 40% from the London office and the rest of the week from home. There is the opportunity for international travel in the role.

The Vacancy
The Programme Development Manager is committed to supporting colleagues and partners in programme design and development. The team also connects programmatic issues and global policy and advocacy to ensure they are complementary and conducive to external change based on evidence from the ground.
Saferworld’s income is secured primarily from statutory and institutional donors; however, securing funding to support our partners in conflict-affected countries and allow for more flexible programming increasingly requires a more diverse funding base. The Programme Development Manager will support efforts to identify and secure funds from statutory donors, trusts and foundations, and other non-traditional funding mechanisms.
The Programme Development Manager will support a portfolio of Saferworld’s teams in designing and mobilising funding for peace, security and justice programmes. The successful applicant will have a focus of approximately 4 countries, which will be decided based on the candidate’s experience and preference. Working closely with Country Managers/Directors, and programme and grant management colleagues, the post-holder will lead on: coordinating and facilitating programme development processes (including taking the lead in drafting high quality concept notes and proposals, theories of change, logical models, risk matrixes and budgets); developing and supporting the implementation of long-term country funding strategies and donor engagement strategies; and supporting new donor engagement and sustaining relationships with current donors. The post-holder will be responsible for growing institutional funding portfolios in our programmes.
The post-holder will have a successful track record in developing programmes and leading new business development efforts with institutional donors such as the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), United States Government (USG)/United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the European Union (EU), UN agencies and European Governments such as Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). Additional experience in mobilising resource from trusts and foundations and other non-traditional funding mechanisms is desirable.

Part 1: Role Purpose:
We are seeking an outstanding Programmes Officer for an exciting opportunity to support Street Child’s programme portfolio in Sierra Leone. The key objectives of this role are to work closely with Street Child’s national partner to support the effective implementation of adaptive programming, and to support accurate and timely donor reporting across a range of institutional, trust & foundations, and corporate donors. The ideal candidate will have strong written and excel skills, with experience of MEAL and financial management processes, and a strong preference for German language skills and experience of working with Bengo funding. The role will include regular, detailed interaction with Street Child’s UK and European fundraising community, in support of donor reporting and future funding opportunities
The role holder will work in close collaboration with Street Child’s regional Head of Programmes, based in Freetown, as well as partner Programmes, MEAL and Finance teams to coordinate timely and quality implementation and reporting across the programmes portfolio.
Part 2: Key Responsibilities:
1) Reporting & Programme Funding Engagement – 35%
- Review narrative and financial quarterly reporting from country teams and provide feedback.
- Lead on the consolidation of narrative reporting (low-mid value donors) for a variety of donors within the portfolio.
- Ensure regular information flow to Street Child communications and fundraising teams, inclusive of collection and drafting of case studies and photos.
- Supporting income-generation opportunities - potentially including supporting donor visits, in-country donor engagement and broad-based support to the group’s global programme-funding efforts for Sierra Leone.
2) Programme & MEAL Management – 35%
- Work in collaboration with national partner and cross-country implementation teams across Liberia and Sierra Leone to ensure quality and timely implementation of project activities.
- Work alongside social, enterprise and education teams across both countries to support a joined-up approach to project implementation and MEAL, ensuring relevant data are collected with due care and utilised for project planning, reporting and learning.
- Provide strong support to programme staff and partners in Sierra Leone in programme and MEAL department.
- Alongside colleagues provide training, guidance and advice to partner delivery staff to ensure effective and accurate use of programme documents and tools.
- In liaison with Safeguarding Focal Points monitor safeguarding policies ensuring adequate implementation of policies and procedures, and support to close feedback loops with partners & project participants.
3) Financial Support – 25%
- Support the country teams in compiling requisitions in line with programme forecasts and budgets.
- Support on the collation of financial reporting requirements for low-mid value donors.
- Support on tracking of donors & match funding.
4) Other – 5%
- Cordinating staff, stakeholders and donor visits.
