About the Role
The Head of Public Affairs and Policy is responsible for overseeing Reprieve’s political engagement and policy work; managing public affairs and policy focused staff; and steering forward advocacy and policy that advances Reprieve’s strategic objectives on behalf of our clients in all the jurisdictions where we operate.
Reprieve’s current policy goals in the UK include prohibiting intelligence sharing where there is a risk of torture or the death penalty, ensuring UK security assistance doesn’t contribute to human rights violations, and ending the practice of citizenship stripping. The role involves close collaboration with Reprieve’s regional and thematic casework teams to encourage states to restrict or end the use of the death penalty or involvement in other human rights abuses such as torture and arbitrary detention.
Reprieve’s work encompasses a number of regions across the world, including the Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, South East Asia, and the United States. The policy team provides cross-cutting support to those teams and local experts to advocate for our clients, secure political representation for them, and advance strategic goals.

Location, contract and salary
This is a full-time role, on a one-year fixed term contract, with the possibility to extend, subject to funding. The annual salary is £61,003 per annum, less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance.
This role is based in Reprieve’s London office. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work 40% of their working hours from the London office and the rest of the week from home. Objective

Key Tasks:
Major Donor Fundraising

General Responsibilities

The role
With responsibility for managing a team of 6, the role will have a base at the RBL Headquarters in Southwark with a hybrid working arrangement of 2 days per week in the office
You will oversee the RBL annual spend of c£85m on goods and services, to ensure the charity maximises the value and minimises the risk associated with procurement and contract management activity. Phyllis Tuckwell is looking for an experienced Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships to lead the newly formed Philanthropy Team. This role will lead on the recruitment and management of major donors as well as leading a team that also has responsibility for trusts, foundations and corporate fundraising.
We are currently nearing the end of our Your New Hospice capital appeal and are looking for someone to take our high value giving into this exciting new phase. This role will be responsible for building a strategy and direction for the team, building a portfolio of major donors, and creating and optimising business processes. This role will also be a part of the Income Generation Leadership team and so will be expected to contribute to a collaborative and supportive team environment that values cross team working and fluid supporter journeys.
The successful candidate will:
- Have significant experience of securing and cultivating five figure donations from high net worth donors.
- Have experience in working in one of either trusts, foundations or corporate fundraising.
- Have the ability to build meaningful relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Have experience in developing and managing business processes that underpin high value fundraising, including due diligence processes and building of cases for support.
- Have a working knowledge of the requirements of high value funders and able to provide high level supporter care.

About the Role

The primary aim of our communications work is to inspire people to either give donations or raise money on our behalf.
We are looking for someone to build up and maintain our library of inspiring stories – including written format, film and images - to showcase impact, share people’s experiences and inspire others to tell their own story and/or support our work.
The role requires an individual who is proactive, happy to get “hands on” and is keen to use their communications skills to support our fundraising effort.
If successful in securing this role, you will find yourself in a small but dynamic environment with a flat structure where decisions are taken quickly. The role reports to the Director of Fundraising (currently being covered by a trusted interim with lots of fundraising and comms experience).
I use my role as CEO to champion fundraising and communications and ensure that we maintain our current focus on building our strengths and ensuring that supporters feel valued and recognised. We are a collaborative team with a positive culture that has a fundraising ethos at its heart. There is scope to experiment, and to grow in the role. Our interim director is extremely experienced and will provide support and mentoring as required.

Accountabilities:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement an ambitious philanthropy strategy that delivers significant income growth from high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and foundations.
Team Leadership: Lead and develop a small team, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring fundraising excellence.
Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with senior stakeholders, including Trustees, the CEO, and global teams, to leverage influence and deepen donor engagement.
Innovation & Future-Proofing: Identify and implement innovative fundraising approaches, including digital philanthropy, giving circles, and social investment models.
Data & Insights: Use CRM and donor analytics to inform strategy, measure impact, and drive data-led decision-making.
Portfolio Development: Expand and diversify our philanthropic network, including engaging global high-net-worth individuals, diaspora philanthropy, and Donor Advised Funds (DAFs).
Major Gift Fundraising: Build and steward a pipeline of major donors, personally cultivating and soliciting six and seven-figure gifts to drive sustainable long-term support.
Engagement & Stewardship: Develop bespoke donor experiences, including high-profile events, personalised communications, and opportunities to see Practical Action’s work firsthand.
Global relationships: Working with country and regional offices, the International Directorate, the Impact & Influence Directorate and Finance, developing processes and proactively working to unblock issues crucial to successful philanthropic growth.
Skills Development: Champion and facilitates the development of skills and capacity among fundraising staff globally in support of the philanthropy strategy.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- We’re looking for an experienced philanthropy professional with a passion for international development and a strong track record of securing major gifts. You will bring:
- Proven expertise in major donor fundraising, with a track record of securing six and seven-figure gifts from high-net-worth individuals and foundations.
- Strategic vision and leadership, with the ability to develop and implement successful multi-year philanthropy strategies.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills, able to engage and inspire senior donors, Trustees, and high-profile stakeholders.
- Creative and entrepreneurial mindset, with experience exploring innovative fundraising models such as impact philanthropy, digital philanthropy, and DAFs.
- Outstanding communication and influencing skills, with the ability to craft compelling cases for support.
- Experience in leading and developing high-performing teams, fostering a culture of ambition, innovation, and collaboration.
- Knowledge of international development and the motivations of philanthropic donors in this space.
- A proactive, results-driven approach, with strong financial acumen and the ability to manage budgets, pipelines, and income targets.

Reporting to, and working closely with, the Head of Fundraising and Engagement, the Senior Philanthropy and Partnerships Lead will shape and implement innovative strategies, driving growth in philanthropic giving, secure corporate partnerships and obtain critical funding. With a focus on cultivating mutually beneficial, long-term relationships, you’ll craft compelling proposals, develop tailored stewardship plans, and create sponsorship opportunities that inspire ongoing support.
You’ll lead the way in securing multi-year corporate partnerships and nurturing donor relationships to meet ambitious income targets. As a key player in the senior fundraising team, you’ll contribute to strategic planning, represent the charity at events, and champion new approaches to fundraising.
With our newly formed Development Board, the Senior Philanthropy and Partnerships Lead will identify and utilise key networks to grow our philanthropic supporter base across corporate and major donor income streams. With strong writing skills, this person will also craft tailored and compelling corporate proposals and trust and foundation applications.
Who are we looking for?
To support our vision and ensure the achievement of ambitious income targets to support children and families affected by neuroblastoma, we are looking for a strategic and results-driven high-value fundraiser to join our team.
We are particularly keen to speak with interested candidates who enjoy cultivating high-value relationships from scratch and stewarding five- and six-figure corporate partnerships, and/or major donor relationships.
Person specification:
- Strategic thinker with significant experience of developing strategic plans to grow and optimise high-value fundraising.
- Expert knowledge of philanthropy fundraising methodology and current philanthropic trends.
- Experience writing successful five/six-figure high-value proposals to corporates and trusts and foundations.
- Good planning and organisation skills with the ability to manage multiple activities with conflicting demands and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to motivate and influence others.
- Demonstrable success in stewarding supporters/donors, corporate partners, and trusts and foundations.
