The Community Connector – Aberfeldy Big Local (ABL) role is focused around the local community and residents of the Aberfeldy area of Tower Hamlets.

The Community Connector will provide engagement, support and access to services within the Aberfeldy Big Local (ABL) area. ABL is a welcoming place for the community, known for its inclusivity and warm reception. The Community Connector often serves as the first point of contact, providing reassurance and inspiring people to engage with services, activities, and community members that can help them achieve their goals both personally and within their community.

This role aims to build relationships, help people settle, understand their interests, goals, and ambitions, and find appropriate opportunities to help them achieve these objectives. The Community Connector will work to expand the ABL’s reach, ensuring that members of the Aberfeldy community are aware of the ABL site and its activities. The role will support Disabled people to sign up to the Priority Service Register, leading to longer term energy savings and ensuring sufficient support through winter. The post holder will have an excellent understanding of domestic violence and its effects on women and children. The post holder will also have an understanding of children’s social care and care proceedings. As an experienced domestic violence advocate who has worked with complex and multiple needs, the post holder will be skilled in risk management and safety planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis. Experience of direct work with female survivors of domestic violence, of supporting women involved with Children’s Social Services and Early Help, and of working within safeguarding procedures is essential for this post, as is the need to adopt and promote a strong partnership approach to service provision.

To be successful as the Early Help IDVA, you’ll need the below experience and skills:

§  Excellent understanding of domestic violence and its effects on women and children

The Society of Authors (SoA) is the UK's largest trade union for all types of writers, illustrators and literary translators. We’ve been advising authors and speaking out for the profession since 1884.  

We’re currently looking for a Membership & Operations Assistant to join our busy team. Our offices are based on Bedford Row / Theobalds Road in Holborn, London. The role offers some potential for hybrid working after initial training.

The role
As part of our member services team, you will assist with the smooth-running of activities in our London office. We’re looking for a tech-confident person to help with routine membership and database processes. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is required. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for fielding incoming calls to the SoA and emails to the info@ email address, as well as updating member records. And as we’re just about to implement a new membership database, you will assist the team with testing and introduction across the organisation. The successful candidate will also be supporting in building management, staff and tenant needs in addition to deputising in the absence of the Head of Operations.

Key responsibilities
•  Supporting Membership with communication via email and telephone
•  Advising prospective members on how to join and manage payments
•  Forwarding queries and contracts to the advisory team
•  Issuing Public Liability Insurance documents
•  Issuing replacement membership cards
•  Inputting and processing applications
•  Sending correspondence to applicants regarding membership
•  Assisting with larger monthly processes, including but not limited to:
o  sending subscription reminders
o  data checking
o  importing data to Mailchimp
o  sending Direct Debit correspondence
•  Assisting the team with the testing of the new database
•  Packing and posting materials for external stakeholders

Additional responsibilities
•  Opening and closing of the reception area on specific days.
•  Handling incoming and outgoing mail and receipt of packages for the SoA and our tenants.
•  Maintaining kitchen supplies and ensuring that this area is kept clean and tidy throughout the week.
•  Being on hand to take care of any day-to-day issues which arise.
•  Providing support to the Head of Operations which may be wide in scope.
•  Assisting with events as required by the Head of Events or Head of Operations.
•  Any other task reasonably requested from the Management Team at SoA.

Essential skills and experience

CAFOD’s Major Donor Executive will play a key role in delivering our fundraising programme. They will help develop and implement operational plans, manage a portfolio of existing donors and work to identify prospective new donors and their networks. They will work alongside a collaborative and talented team of fundraising professionals who support and encourage each other to reach their fundraising and operational goals. 

This is a wonderful opportunity to make an impact on CAFOD’s growth through a sound knowledge of high-value major gifts principles, already established warm long-term and prospective donors, experience with peer-to-peer approaches and hands-on experience with this specialist form of philanthropic giving. 

Key Responsibilities

Donor relationship management 

• Develop lasting relationships with existing donors and new prospects, building and managing a portfolio of donors giving £5,000 upwards

• With the Philanthropy Manager and Major Donor Team, devise and implement online and offline communication plans with a clear focus on securing funds for CAFOD’s core programmes 

• Steward donors effectively, to ensure satisfaction and long-term commitment. Communicate, thank and report back on the work of CAFOD using donors preferred channels, ensuring the highest standards of donor care 

• Ensure systematic data input and management so that key information, donor interactions and communications are appropriately recorded  in line with organisational systems and processes, and in compliance with GDPR and fundraising best practice 

• Work with the Philanthropy Manager, the Research and Information Team, Senior Management colleagues and Trustees to carry out donor research, identify new prospects and grow the pipeline of donors. 

• As part of the team’s wider work, contribute to (and at times lead on) hosting cultivation and stewardship events – including planning event logistics; sending and tracking invitations; hosting and speaking at events; co-ordinating follow-up and completing evaluations 

 Contribute to Major Donor strategy, plans and income targets 

• Contribute to the development of team annual plans and income forecasts 

• Maintain focus on your own and teams’ income and other KPIs 

• Monitor your portfolio, prepare required analysis for monthly and quarterly reports and regular income forecasting exercises 

• Develop ad hoc reports and data analysis to improve the donor programme and communicate key learnings to internal and external stakeholders 

• Participate in regular team reviews of the donor portfolio to discuss moves management and next steps in donor contact plans 

• Identify new funding opportunities with stakeholders and develop ways of working with influential supporters 

• Attend and contribute to regular section and CAFOD-wide meetings and briefings

About you

We are in search of a candidate with expert major donor knowledge and a proven track record in donor management and fundraising. You will have experience soliciting five and ideally six-figure donations and have the ability to develop compelling appeals to raise funds for CAFOD’s core programmes. Additionally, you will comprehensively understand the significance of prospect research and portfolio management. You will have excellent communication skills and high emotional intelligence, enabling you to foster strong relationships with donors and work colleagues. 

Essential criteria for the role will include: 

• Proven experience of managing major gift relationships at five-figure giving level 

• Experience of implementing donor cultivation and stewardship plans – including online and offline appeals, tailored approaches and feedback communications; face-to-face meetings; event management 

• Achieved successful income growth strategies 

• Good written and presentations skills that would enable donors to engage with the work of CAFOD

• Good knowledge of how to input and use databases and how to follow systems and processes
