ABOUT US
We are National Energy Action (NEA) – and our vision is to end fuel poverty; our work to improve and promote energy efficiency brings social, environmental, housing and employment benefits. We believe everyone should be able to afford to keep their homes warm and safe, however, low incomes, high energy bills and poor energy efficiency currently deny this to millions of households across the UK. Never has this been more important than today.
NEA’s teams are friendly, knowledgeable and are dedicated to what we do. We are proud of our expertise and proud of the service we deliver to our clients.
We offer colleagues a friendly, rewarding workplace and the chance to build a worthwhile career with a not-for-profit organisation that is proud to make a genuine difference to people’s lives each and every day.
THE ROLE
NEA is looking to appoint new Warm and Safe Homes (WASH) Advice Line Co-ordinator posts on a full time (37 hours per week) basis; but we are happy to receive applications from candidates who may wish to work part time hours as we would be prepared to appoint posts as job share opportunities. Please state your preferred working pattern in your application and we will discuss this at interview.
WASH Advice Line Co-ordinators will be the first point of contact for vulnerable householders who are contacting the charity for a range of energy related advice matters. Co-ordinators will need to be empathetic, polite and have good listening skills but may also need you to be assertive and confident in order to provide support to clients, some of whom may be in difficult circumstances.
Whilst call centre or customer service experience will be advantageous, empathy and an ability to understand client needs is paramount and our training will give successful candidates the knowledge to succeed in the role.
The post holder’s main responsibilities will be to deal with customer and partner emails, calls, live chats and off- line tasks. These will include:

Provision of day-to-day support to our customers and partners (referral organisations) on any queries, or issues, through answering telephones calls and emails.
-
Process, resolve or escalate client queries within the WASH and wider team in line with the internal process.

As a WASH Advice Line Co-ordinator, you’ll be in the front line of the provision of solutions to client queries and issues as part of a wider team.
-
Maintenance of appropriate client records and necessary data using client management systems to ensure the progress of work towards project targets is monitored and that project outcomes are fully recorded.
The post holders will be responsible for the delivery of a range of projects which will demonstrate good practice in delivery of affordable warmth for low income and vulnerable householders.
The posts sit within the Communities Directorate and are part of a dynamic and caring team of professionals who go the extra mile to support their clients, some of whom may be in difficult circumstances.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
You should be able to demonstrate understanding or experience of energy efficiency, you will be empathetic and be a good listener – as well as demonstrable experience of responding to the needs of clients in direct contact settings. You will have the ability to work with a wide range of people and demonstrable experience of working with vulnerable householders, low income and/or other disadvantaged groups.
You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with a range of communities and individuals.

Our work is based on hospitality, carried out in a spirit of compassion and solidarity, encouraging participation and community, aiming to kindle hope, secure justice and affirm the dignity of refugees and forced migrants. Based in the Hurtado Jesuit Centre in Wapping, East London, JRS UK supports refugees and asylum seekers in the UK and works in wider collaboration with JRS offices around the world.
We employ 29 full-time and part-time staff and have around 100 volunteers, from a wide variety of backgrounds, nationalities, and generations; people of all faiths and none; including refugees, young graduates, and vowed members of religious congregations. In order to deliver our work, JRS UK generates around £1.8m in income each year, a substantial percentage of which is generously donated each year by Jesuits in Britain.
After nine years of successfully growing and developing JRS UK, our Director Sarah Teather is stepping down to pursue new projects. Under Sarah’s inspiring leadership, JRS UK has been on a transformational journey to mature as an organisation, now delivering a range of services including providing advice, support and hardship grants, outreach services and advice, including legal advice. Much remains to be done in serving the people we exist to support, and we seek a new Director to take over from Sarah.
Our new Director will, in collaboration with the Management Board, staff and stakeholders, build on developments of recent years and develop JRS UK’s strategic vision in response to changes in the external refugee and asylum-seeker environment, and be capable of reaching out beyond the current polarised debate to build mutual understanding.
We are looking for an expert leader and manager who brings knowledge and experience of the refugee sector. You will be participative in style, approachable, and committed to the JRS UK mission of walking alongside refugees. It may be that you already operate in a CEO role or similar, or that you are looking to transition into your first executive director role, while bringing transferable leadership experience.

JRS UK is rooted in Church teaching but is open to people of all faiths – and none – and people who work for us are proud of the multifaith team and approach. While you will need to demonstrate sympathy and respect for Catholic Social Teaching, we welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds and beliefs.

We pride ourselves on being a values-driven organisation, and we’re looking for a likeminded fundraiser to join the team in this new role.
Blending storytelling with statistics, events management with stakeholder engagement, and research with data protection, this varied role would be ideal for someone with an interest in criminal justice who communicates as well in person as they do on paper.
You don’t need to have been a fundraiser before, but experience in a similar position – with that mix of relationship building, words and numbers – would be beneficial.
Research tells us that marginalised groups of people may not apply for jobs unless they meet 100% of the criteria. We also know that fundraisers come from many backgrounds with different experiences that might not seem “standard” – and that’s okay! We value people who bring unique perspectives and knowledge to our team.
You might not feel like you check all the boxes as you read this job pack. That could be because of impostor syndrome or a confidence gap, especially if you’ve been marginalised or excluded in the past. But we hope you’ll apply anyway because what’s most important to us is having shared values and attitudes to work – the rest we can work on through our culture of feedback and development.
