The British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) is an organisation focused on the promotion of gastroenterology and hepatology within the United Kingdom. It has over 4000 members drawn from the ranks of physicians, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, scientists, nurses, dietitians and others interested in the field.

Main Job Focus

• The COO ensures that all operational governance, finance and HR matters of the BSG are dealt with effectively and to the highest standard.
• Ensure BSG is compliant with the requirements of the Charity Commission
• Ensure digital development of BSG reflect the strategic objectives of the organisation

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with CEO and Senior Management team to develop and implement the charity’s strategy 
• Work closely with the Board of Trustees, Executive and Council preparing agendas and papers for meetings, attending the meetings and taking Minutes
• Ensure all aspects of the Society’s Governance are managed effectively
• Companies House/Charity Commission filing
• Management of the HR function to include administration using Breath HR, induction of new staff, BSG Officers and Trustees
• Management of the election process for committee members
• Ensure governance of the charity is dealt with effectively including all policies and procedures implementing change where necessary
• Be the Data Protection Officer for the charity ensuring that the charity is GDPR compliant
• Preparation and management of budgets with the CEO
• Prepare tender documents and lead process for external providers of services
• With the CEO, drive a culture of continuous improvement in all support areas of the charity 
• Deputise for the CEO when required
• Attend and support the BSG annual conference which takes place over four days in June each year.
• Involved in higher committees and relevant working groups of the Society, supporting their development and implementation of key initiatives

What we are looking for:

· Achievement of a recognised, fully qualified professional Accountancy qualification (for example, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) 

· A dynamic and experienced individual, with proven experience in a senior financial management role, ideally within the charity sector

· Proficient in preparing, analysing and presenting financial statements (income statement, balance sheet and cashflow statement).

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain financial processes to non-financial staff.

· Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making

· Proven IT skills, including a high-level proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, with a strong knowledge of Excel’s functions and formulas

The Finance Manager & Company Secretary role is a dual role where you will ensure efficient and effective planning and management of the charity’s finances and take charge of secretarial duties. Within this role, you will develop and maintain accounting systems, control and records, while ensuring the charity is compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements. The postholder will ensure appropriate financial policy and procedures are in place, to deliver effective financial management and decision making. You will produce management accounts, oversee financial reporting and assist with legacy administration. You will manage relationships with a variety of external financial advisors and insurers.

You will play a key role managing the charity’s secretarial duties. These responsibilities include submitting information to Companies House and the Charity Commission. You will work closely with the Executive Management team, maintaining legal and financial documents, while ensuring they are filed securely, providing regular information/documentation. You will attend Board and committee meetings, ensure processes and regulations are followed and take minutes in these meetings.

To be considered for this role, you will have a professional accountancy qualification – ACCA, ACA or equivalent. We are looking for a Corporate Performance and Reporting Manager in our Clerk of the Parliament’s Office at the House of Lords. This is an exciting opportunity to use your strong analytical skills and flair for communicating and engaging a range of stakeholders, to drive progress against our strategic objectives and report on our performance.

This is a hybrid working opportunity where you will work on-site at Parliament 3 days per week, with 2 days per week working remotely. You’ll be accountable for –

• Acting as operational lead for the Administration’s approach to corporate performance management, including the implementing and reviewing of the House’s performance management framework.
• Building partnerships with Heads of Office, service leads and others across the House to embed, co-ordinate and continuously improve performance metrics and baseline performance.
• Providing a leading voice in the co-production of the quarterly performance report to the Management Board and Finance Committee.
• Embedding performance measuring and reporting approaches that meet the best functional standards, using a range of management data to provide accessible and actionable insights.
• Working with other colleagues across Parliament to help to ensure that other performance monitoring processes allow for comparison.
• Working with Parliamentary Digital Service, and the House of Commons to develop common practices for Corporate Performance Management across Parliament.

You will have a track record of pitching, securing, managing, and growing six and seven figure partnerships in the third (or equivalent) sector, coupled with excellent relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders. You are self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative, but you also enjoy collaborating with colleagues.

We are looking for a personable and intuitive candidate with excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor communication style to achieve maximum impact upon relevant situations and audience.

Founded in 1992 by a group of mental health professionals, Working Well Trust was established to address the issue of low employment rates for people who have experienced mental health issues.  Since starting we have seen advances in the specialist support offered to people seeking employment and a change in cultural attitudes towards mental health.
