The Role

As the Early Help Service Lead, you will be responsible for managing a team of staff working at various levels ensuring that they are motivated to deliver their service and receive relevant support and training.  The role will also develop the service, working collaboratively with partners, meet contractual targets and take decisive action where needed.

You will also take the organisational lead in ensuring that appropriate arrangements for keeping children and young people safe and promote the safety and welfare of children and young people involved in the organisations activities at all times.

The Café forms part of a central hub, housing a daytime café for the community and an after-school Youth Café that connects vulnerable young people to positive and inspiring role-models from their community, empowering and inspiring them to become active citizens in their community. The space is used for two similar, but distinct purposes and excellent working relationships between these are essential. This role is responsible for the daytime café and related income generating activities.

An initiative of the Matrix Trust, our café has built an excellent reputation, with the vision to provide a space for local people to retreat to, where they will find a friendly welcome and an opportunity to give back to the community. Key elements include: quality coffee, delicious healthy food, a calm but welcoming environment, and an eco-friendly, low waste ethos.

The Café is open 5 days a week, 8:30am to 3pm on Tuesday to Friday and 10am to 3pm on Saturdays. 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

● Oversee the efficient daily operation of the café, ensuring high standards and excellent customer service.

● Engage customers, take and serve orders, and drive sales.

● Ensure all health & safety and food safety standards are met.

● Maintain a clean, welcoming, and friendly environment for customers.

● Manage stock levels, place supply orders, and handle cash management, including cashing up and reporting till adjustments.

● Develop and maintain a visually inviting space with up-to-date menus and quality food offerings.

● Implement and follow food rotation and waste management procedures to minimise waste and maximise margins.

● Utilise and develop methods that encourage repeat business.

● Secure the café at the end of the shift.

● Ensure all food and drinks served are of the highest quality.

● Achieve and maintain an excellent food standards rating.

● Liaising with the Head of Operations, oversee maintenance and repair of café equipment, ensuring everything is in working order.

Customer Service

● Ensure customers have an efficient and enjoyable experience, consistently exceeding service and value expectations.

● Address customer complaints or refunds in a professional manner.

● Upsell products as appropriate and ensure the team is knowledgeable about the menu items.

● Foster a welcoming atmosphere for all customers, including regulars and first-time visitors.

Team Management

● Recruit, train, support, and lead a small team of paid staff, volunteers, and apprentices, including at-risk young people.

● Plan staff rotas, monitor performance, and conduct appraisals to recognise training needs and potential.

● Ensure the team maintains a clean, visually inviting space.

● Act as a positive role model for young apprentices, volunteers, and work experience students.

● Develop and implement staff development programmes, including team-building activities.

Café Development

● Develop seasonal menus and menu items to celebrate calendar events.

● Promote the vision of Matrix through the café.

● Be passionate about the vision of the café.

● Achieve café goals and targets set by the Board of Directors.

● Identify areas for development that will drive the business forward, keeping abreast of new concepts and ideas in the industry.

● Ensure that customers are given an efficient and enjoyable experience and that service and value expectations are consistently exceeded.

● Collaborate with marketing and business development to create promotional strategies, including social media campaigns.

Building and Event Management

● Liaise with the Head of Operations about any building maintenance issues.

● Promote the hireable spaces and arrange events that enhance the café’s offerings.

● Encourage use of the café by local groups such as creatives, book clubs, parents etc.

● Manage café events, ensuring the team sets up the space as required and that the hirers are properly looked after.

● Coordinate with local businesses and community organisations for partnerships and events.

General and Wider Charity Involvement

● Be a proactive part of the wider Matrix team, getting involved in projects that benefit the mission of Matrix, such as fundraising activities or team projects.

● Ensure knowledge of current Matrix projects and their impact.

● Participate in community outreach programmes and initiatives that align with the café’s social enterprise goals.

Background

The European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) is one of the world’s pre-eminent symphony orchestras. An orchestra of dynamism, youthful energy, and passion shaped afresh each year with highly talented musicians from all 27 EU Member States. Recognised across the world for the excellence of its music-making, and for its success in nurturing the careers of generations of young musicians, the EUYO is always at the forefront, anticipating and reacting to the changing world around it, equipping its members for careers in that world and forging change within the classical music and cultural sectors.

For the past half-decade, the statutory public funding won by the EUYO was sufficient to finance its activities. Now, with a new base in Austria, an expanded programme, preparations for its 50th anniversary, and with the challenges of current general global uncertainty, the EUYO wishes to extend its revenue base by reigniting its previously strong tradition in private funding and corporate relationships, beginning with the recruitment of a Head of Development and Philanthropy. The Head of Development and Philanthropy will have responsibility for fundraising from corporates, individuals and trusts and foundations. The responsibility for the EUYO’s statutory public funding from EU, EU member state and local and regional public institutions will continue to be held by the Executive & Artistic Director and the Head of Executive & Finance. 

In order to assist this process, the last year 18 months have been used by the Orchestra to create and put in place new development processes and initial donors, including utilising a skilled volunteer Board level fundraising committee, setting up a cross border tax incentive scheme, creating a new bespoke CRM integrated with the Orchestra’s database, creating a new website support area, initiating new patrons and individuals programmes and the base strategy for a new alumni programme, and recruiting new initial corporate donors. Now, with all of these processes and achievements in place, the EUYO seeks a dynamic entrepreneurial fundraiser to help deliver the Orchestra’s exciting future programme, and over time, to grow a fundraising team as income generation builds.

Purpose of role

we are now seeking an exceptional Head of Development and Philanthropy to join that team. The

successful applicant will start at an exciting and pivotal moment.

Reporting to the Executive and Artistic Director, this role will suit a dynamic, ambitious, collegiate and entrepreneurial individual. Working in close collaboration with colleagues, you will be responsible for shaping the nature of the EUYO’s fundraising. You will help us to effectively cultivate, solicit and steward the EUYO’s current donors and sponsors and identify and bring on board new donors and sponsors, working with a wide and diverse variety of stakeholders and audiences.

Primary responsibilities

Key responsibilities

• Continued delivery of the organisation’s fundraising strategy, alongside the opportunity to also develop, rethink and remould it, all in consultation with the Executive and Artistic Director and with the support of our Fundraising Committee, Board, Advisory Council and key stakeholders across the EU.
• Build on EUYO’s compelling case for support and identify specific projects which align with the EUYO’s strategic plan, and which demonstrate the difference that philanthropy will make in delivering on the mission.
• Work with the Executive and Artistic Director and the Head of Communications and Advocacy to ensure together a cohesive integrated public facing language for the organisation in its communications, balancing the needs of different audiences
• Sustain a range of giving programmes: membership, appeals and major giving opportunities which appeal to donors and can be delivered with available resources.
• Ensure systems for renewal of current supporters and developing a pipeline of future donors, which includes a range of corporates, individuals, and trusts and foundations.
• Work with the Fundraising Committee to develop annual appeals and create a strategic plan for the 50th Anniversary Appeal.
• Work with the finance team to analyse the effectiveness of different fundraising initiatives, manage budgets and support financial reporting.
• Co-ordinate monitoring, evaluation and reporting for all non-funded projects, with EUYO colleagues.
• Regularly circulate information about the EUYO engagements and initiatives to Directors, corporate supporters, and donors.
• Maintain positive working relationship with all internal and external stakeholders.

Governance and finance

• Keep up to date with changes in fundraising regulation and ensure implementation where required.
• Work with the Head of Executive and Finance to set and manage expenditure and report on ROI.  
• Manage quarterly Fundraising Committee meetings in conjunction with the Committee Chair.
• Work with the Fundraising Committee to research new potential committee members.
• Regularly review the Fundraising Policy and associated policies.
• Ensure appropriate fundraising due diligence is completed when appropriate.
• Ensure the EUYO is operating best practice in its fundraising, keeping up to date with any changes in compliance, legislation, and fundraising methodologies.
• Keep up to date on tax matters relating to charitable giving, ensuring the EUYO is maximising income from tax concessions.
• Work with the Communications Team to source suitable donation platforms and software and maintain the EUYO’s fundraising database.
• Work with the Communications Team to manage the fundraising complaints register.

Individual giving

• Build on and develop the current major donor strategy to secure long term support.
• Manage the EUYO’s membership and patron’s programmes with the support of the Communications Team.
• Manage existing donor membership schemes and increase membership year-on-year.
• Research and cultivate a pool of prospective individual donors in conjunction with the Executive and Artistic Director, Trustees and Directors and maintain close relationships with existing donors.
• Build on and develop an annual appeal for individual donors.
• Devise new ways of attracting donors using the EUYO’s website and social media channels, beneficiaries and alumni.

Corporate giving

• Develop a healthy prospect list of companies, both nationally and internationally.
• Develop corporate sponsorship and partnership proposals.
• Work with the Executive and Artistic Director, Fundraising Committee, Board and Advisory Council to cultivate and steward corporate partners.
• Explore the potential of corporate membership and, if implemented, administer and service the Corporate Membership Scheme, maintaining close relationships with the members’ nominated contacts, circulating information, and ensuring that members enjoy the full extent of the benefits.
• Ensure all corporate partners and sponsors receive appropriate reports as required and in a timely manner.

Trusts and foundations

• Develop a pipeline of trusts and foundation prospects, working with the Executive and Artistic Director and the Head of Executive and Finance to develop appropriate resource for this new pipeline of prospects where necessary.
• Research and apply for funding from trusts and foundations.
• Work with the EUYO colleagues to measure impact and outputs from grant funding.
• Monitor delivery progress and ensure reporting according to grant funding requirements.
• Maintain relationships with trusts and foundations who are already giving to the EUYO, keeping them informed of the EUYO’s activities and of the results and benefits generated by their donation.

Profile

Experience

• 5-10 years’ experience in fundraising within the arts and cultural sector.
• Experience in implementing a fundraising strategy.

• Experience in producing persuasive fundraising case for support and other fundraising marketing material.
• Prior experience in tax-effective giving and fundraising regulation across the European Union.
• Proven track record in building relationships and engaging with key stakeholders at all levels.
• Demonstrable knowledge of creating solicitation and stewardship plans.
• Experience in researching and developing new prospects, uncover untapped markets and sources of funding.
• Experience of working on annual appeal fundraising campaigns.
• Experience in managing budgets.

Skills

• Passion for, and/or knowledge of, classical music.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with key stakeholders at all levels.
• Working knowledge of fundraising regulations, cross-border, and international giving.
• Adept at managing multiple relationships concurrently and managing your own time effectively.
• Excellent writing skills with the ability to translate complex information into a compelling case for support.
• Experience writing web copy for fundraising.
• Extensive knowledge of individual, major donors, corporate, and trust and foundations, strategies and approaches.
• Ability to work independently to multiple deadlines, whilst delivering under pressure.
• Experience using a fundraising CRM database and ensuring its upkeep.
• Fluent in written and oral English. French and/or German highly desirable.

About the Role

The organisation delivers a range of targeted youth programmes for children and young people who benefit from more intensive support, to reach their goals including mental-health and emotional wellbeing support, careers and enterprise initiatives, youth voice and social action opportunities; and programmes addressing serious youth violence and exploitation.

We are looking for a Trusts and Grants Manager to oversee the fundraising of all restricted income.  Restricted income makes up 70% of the overall income stream, and enables the charity to deliver core youth work activities as well as targeted programmes such as employability, health improvement and social prescribing, detached youth work and more, with over 50 funded contracts per year. 

Key duties include:

• Manage a pipeline of restricted income
• Propose, cost and write trusts and grants applications that typically span from £5,000 to £100,000
• Support the Director of Fundraising to complete applications for unrestricted funding
• Keep up to date with local and national funding opportunities
• Chair the bi-weekly trusts and grants meetings
• Work closely with the Director of Youth Services to mobilise successful bids
• Support during the preparation of financial audits

This role will include both line management and hands on grant application and stewarding of commissioners.

We are looking for an experienced trust and grant bid writer, with experience of developing and submitting high quality funding applications and approaches to funders.

You will also have experience of:

Purpose of the Post
To lead insight and impact of the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector across Bradford District and Craven, including developing and managing the Impact and Insight function for the VCS Alliance. To ensure the work of the VCSE sector is founded on good insight and that the impact can be presented clearly to wide range of audiences across the Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership system. You will work in partnership with data and intelligence colleagues in Public Health and the NHS, promoting equitable outcomes for all community members.

Duties and Responsibilities

• To lead, on behalf of the VCSE sector, and in collaboration with system partners, the development of a shared set of metrics to measure the impact of the sector’s work, particularly in taking pressure off front line health and care services.
• Lead the development and implementation of an approach to demonstrate the impact of the work of VCS partners and their contribution to reducing inequalities.
• Work in collaboration with other voluntary sector infrastructure partners and their data and insight leads to help develop a joined up and collaborative approach to impact and insights across and on behalf of the VCSE sector.
• Develop, maintain and manage good relationships with a broad range of partners including, Local Authority, NHS partners, VCSE partners.
• Gather local, national, and international insight and learning to help inform investment decisions and the evolution of the VCS Alliance and its delivery partners’ work.
• Provide insight and learning for VCS Alliance staff, and VCSE advocates across the health and care system, to help them inform, advocate, influence and/or inspire.
• Present insights to a wide range of audiences, which includes senior leaders from different sectors, for a range of purposes including informing, advocating, influencing, and inspiring.
• To work in collaboration with system partners, including ICB and public health staff, to access relevant data that be translated into insight required to demonstrate impact of the VCSA and its delivery partners and wider VCSE organisations.
• Support the monitoring, learning, evaluation of programmes for the VCS Alliance and its delivery partners.
• Produce regular reports which help demonstrate the impact and learning of the work of the VCS Alliance and its delivery partners.
• Support the continued development of insight collection methods across a variety of projects.
• Engage in insight and impact conversations on behalf of the VCS Alliance with colleagues with similar roles across the BDC ICB system and the wider VCSE sector.
• Liaise with external evaluation agencies as required, ensuring that their insight is integrated within the VCS Alliance impact and insight system.
• Assist the Operations Director in managing all aspects of GDPR on behalf of the VCS Alliance, including acting in the role of Caldicott Guardian.

General Requirements

• Undertake personal training as required.
• Attend regular supervision sessions and staff meetings.
• Support general VCSA administration by handling inquiries via the telephone, email and drop-ins.
• Provide relevant information for VCSA’s newsletter/s, mailings, website and social media.
• Comply with all organisational policies and procedures.
• Promote VCSA with all stakeholders during the duties of your work.
• Undertake any other duties prescribed by your line manager.

Special conditions
As part of this role, you will be required to work and travel across the Bradford District and Craven. While the VCS Alliance supports hybrid working, there is an expectation that you will be based at the office for at least two days per week.

of front line charities and groups to develop capacity for people with Lived Experience to tell their
