Fundraising Volunteer Roles

Main purpose of role:

To support the Fundraising Manager with all aspects of fundraising, with a particular focus on donor stewardship, and small grants/trusts/community fundraising.

The role will be hands on and has the potential for you to learn and develop a variety of fundraising skills.

Responsibilities and key tasks:

• To research and draft applications to small grants and trust.

• Proactively use the fundraising database to develop and manage supporters and ensure all activities are recorded accurately and in line with GDPR

• To assist the Fundraising Manager/Treasurer with the reconciliation of our income and financial processes.

• To assist the Fundraising Manager with the planning and collation of the annual and biannual major funders monitoring reports requests.

• General fundraising/administration duties, as and when required

• This role is expected to meet the minimum financial target per year.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

Essential

Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Ability to work independently and a strong team player. Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of people. Ability to deal with information in a confidential manner. Highly organised with ability to prioritise a varied and demanding workload. Confident IT skills including Microsoft Office. Desirable. Project management skills. Experience working in a voluntary sector preferrable but not essential.

Volunteer Opportunity: Grant Writer & Fundraising Lead – Help Save Lives

We have a rare and urgent opportunity to make a life-changing impact—but we need your help.

At Somali Medical Aid Group (SMAG), we are a UK-registered charity, also registered in Somalia, dedicated to supporting conflict survivors, women, and children who have suffered unimaginable trauma. Our mission is simple but urgent: to provide lifesaving medical interventions to those who need them most.

Through our partnership with an internatioal NGO, we are sending Somali conflict survivors to abroad for reconstructive surgery—giving them a second chance at life. Our partner has committed to covering all medical cost,flights, and treatment, but without an additional £60,000 to cover local patient support and logistics, this lifeline will disappear.

That’s where you come in.

We need an experienced, strategic, and passionate grant writer & fundraiser to help secure these critical funds. Beyond this immediate need, we also need help with funding our core operations and several other life-changing initiatives.

What Needs Funding

Immediate Priority: Keeping the MSF Partnership Alive

• Secure £60,000 to cover local operations, logistics, and patient support.

Other Critical Projects:

• Core Funding – Ensuring SMAG remains operational and sustainable
• Physiotherapy – Training specialists to support long-term rehabilitation
• Medical Supplies & Equipment – Delivering essential resources to conflict survivors
• Vehicles – Providing transportation for medical teams and patients in remote areas
• Medical capacity building – Expanding access to healthcare in Somalia

Fundraising Trustee Role Description:

Overview

Our charitable trust provides grants to charitable organisations to support impactful projects benefitting communities in Westminster. We are seeking an individual with fundraising experience to join the Board of Trustees. 

Key Responsibilities 

· Provide advice on fundraising strategies, opportunities, and best practices to help increase the Trust’s income and grow its impact.

· Identify potential opportunities for donor engagement, partnerships, and alternative income streams.

· Act as an ambassador for the Trust to promote its work.  

· Provide feedback on grant applications, supporting fellow trustees in making informed decisions about which bids to fund.

· Attend and actively contribute to 3-4 trustee meetings per year, held mostly in the evening (with the option to attend remotely for some meetings).

Skills and Experience

· Proven expertise in fundraising and donor engagement, ideally within the charitable sector (essential)

· A good understanding of the challenges and opportunities for smaller charities and community-based organisations (desirable)

· Knowledge of Westminster (desirable)

Roles vary depending on the event. You may be involved with: 

• Collecting donations with our collection buckets
• Manning a charity stand at an event

• Offering general information about the charity and our services to the public
• Speaking at events, collection cheques
• Being a friendly face to represent the charity!

Time commitment

No minimum commitment is required but we would be grateful if you could attend at least three events a year. You will be emailed when opportunities come up to then discuss availability.

Location

The majority of events take place in the Borough of Bromley but we also have some events in south London and Kent.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing operational management for either the Sponsorship Team or the Grant Fundraising Team

• Ensuring senior officers are providing effective supervision for volunteers

• Ensuring that the fundraising department are aware of the funding needs of the whole organisation and working towards progress them

• Providing regular guidance and advice to senior officers

• Providing support and getting involved in building grant applications

• To regularly meet with direct reports and the team

• To ensure the team is aligned with the wider planning of the organisation and department

Sponsorship covers:

• Emailing potential donors for donations

• Fundraising events

• Marketing the organisation to encourage donations

• Building relationships with donors and potential donors 

• Identifying sponsorship

Grant Fundraising covers:

• Identifying core funding needs (by liaising with HoDs across YAUK and C Level)

• Identifying grant funding available to cover core funding needs

• Building applications to submit for funding

• Supporting output departments such as (Project Ops and Research & Policy etc) to help them get funding for specific project / policy work / research work

• Supporting volunteers in output departments (as requested by management) to build applications or doing it for them in order to get grant funding for specific work

• Identifying funding opportunities and sharing them with relevant teams in output departments (for example a Research Team should be made aware of funding relevant to the topic their team are focusing on)
