TRUSTEE - ROLE DESCRIPTION
Role: Trustee

The objective of Self Help UK is to promote the health and well-being of individuals through participation in self-help groups and peer support activities.
We are at an exciting time moving from a mainly Nottingham-based charity into an organisation working across the UK.
We are looking to expand the range of expertise and experience of our Board and are looking to recruit additional Trustees.
Trustees meetings are usually held every six weeks, plus there is an AGM, away days, and any sub-committee meetings that trustees may be involved in. Most meetings will remain virtual but there will from time to time be a need to attend key meetings and events in Nottingham. The time commitment is approximately 4-8 hours per month, but there may be occasions when more time is required for a short period.
Trustee positions are unremunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

What are we looking for?

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales. What your role will involve
There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:
- Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
- Receiving donated goods from members of the public
- Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
- Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
- Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
- Processing sales and serving on the till
- Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
- Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
- Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
- Following new health, safety and social distancing measures to ensure the safety of everyone

PFP is a UK-based charity working in Africa and Asia since 2004, and this year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary. Our Mission is to work together with local people and filmmakers to produce, distribute and show local language educational films that give help and hope to vulnerable and disadvantaged communities. Ideal candidates will assist Quilombo UK in preparing funding bids that contribute to their further development. Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan and execute the Education & Skill Development strategy and service line:
• Workshop Coordination: Organize quarterly workshops on key topics such as financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and job skills, ensuring these sessions are informative and engaging for the community.
• Mentoring and Work Experience: Facilitate biannual mentoring events, pairing community members with experienced mentors. Arrange work experience opportunities to enhance vocational skills and job readiness.

• Partnership Development & Collaboration Team: Coordinate with this team to identify and establish alliances and partnerships with local, regional and global organisations, businesses, councils, and thegovernment to acquire education and skill development resources, speakers or information.
• Fundraising & Financial Management Team: Collaborate with this team to conduct fundraising activities and financial planning for the Education and Skill Development service line. The Council for British Research in the Levant (CBRL) is seeking to appoint an Honorary Treasurer. CBRL is a research charity which operates the UK’s overseas research institutes in Amman and East Jerusalem and supports academic research across a broad range of subject areas – from archaeology to modern social science – in the Levant. CBRL has 12 staff across 3 locations and an income derived from government and research grants and its various activities.
CBRL is one of the British International Research Institutes (BIRI), a network of overseas research organisations that operate in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. All the BIRI conduct research, collaborate with overseas and UK-based partners, and provide facilities, training and financial, academic and logistical support to researchers. The BIRI also run events and outreach programmes, held in the UK and overseas.
The charity has been through significant change in recent years, broadening its sources of funding and professionalising its processes. This is expected to continue, and the Hon Treasurer will play a key role in helping to drive the Strategic Plan.
Working with the Chair, Trustees, and senior management (Director and Financial Controller), the role of the Hon Treasurer will involve:

overseeing the strategic financial management of the charity to ensure that CBRL achieves a financially sustainable position and builds appropriate reserves;

overseeing and presenting budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to trustees;

involvement, with management and other Hon Officers, in strategic planning and in presentation of plans to potential funders and stakeholders;

About the opportunity
This role involves helping with events nationally, and local our Midlands Centre, throughout the year. There is no minimum commitment. We are always grateful for an extra pair of hands to help with setting up events and tidying up afterwards.
Times can vary, and you can choose to help all day or a morning/afternoon session.

The role
The overall role of a trustee with financial experience is to maintain an overview of the organisation’s affairs, including its financial affairs, ensure its financial viability and ensure that proper financial records, controls and procedures are maintained.
In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, duties include:
● Financial oversight of the charity – being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs.
● Overseeing and reviewing the preparation of the charity’s annual budget. Then presenting the budget to the Board for approval.
● Reviewing the quarterly management accounts and annual financial statements and presenting to the Board for approval in collaboration with the CEO and Finance and Operations Manager.
● Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy.
● Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
● Liaising with any paid staff and external accountants about financial matters.
● Advising on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans.
● Ensuring that the annual financial statements are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies, for example the Charity Commission.
● Ensuring external scrutiny of the financial statements in the manner required and any recommendations are implemented.
● Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.
● Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation.
● Sitting on appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary panels as required.
● Lead oversight of the risk register to ensure that the risk mitigating actions are appropriate and being undertaken
● To act as the lead person for staff to raise in confidence any concerns about fraud.
About you
In addition to the person specification of a trustee, duties of the trustee with financial experience include:
● Financial qualifications and experience within the charity sector
● Extensive experience at setting and managing budgets.
● Some experience fundraising, income generation and pension scheme.
● Alignment with Sounddelivery Media’s mission.
● Supporting the board to make decisions relating to the financial health of the charity
● Providing appropriate oversight at operational level
● The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences
● A willingness and ability to devote the necessary time
● A willingness to learn and carry out the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of charity trusteeship

Plateful café is a refugee-led charity which provides employment for refugees and brings together communities through the art of food. We work with refugees in sharing cultural dishes from their home countries, where they are paid London living wage to serve them at our café. They are provided with tailored training to expand their existing culinary skills, whilst being given the environment to utilise their existing abilities.
Role Description
As Volunteer Administration manager, you will be crucial in managing administration processes at Plateful Café. Your responsibilities will be widely varied, requiring a combination of leadership, organisation and interpersonal skills. You will lead and support our small yet dedicated team of admin assistants, ensuring that operations run efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
1.Recruiting new admin assistants and training them, ensuring they have the resources to fulfil their roles effectively
2.Completing a variety of admin tasks - some of these include (but are not limited to): booking events, posting job ads, shortlisting candidates for various roles, ordering produce for the charity, and assisting in writing reports & fundraising applications
3.Prioritising and delegating tasks to admin assistants based on urgency
4.Supporting admin assistants in their tasks, answering questions and overseeing that tasks are completed to a high standard
5.Attending remote team meetings
