INDEPENDENT COMMITTEE MEMBER - FUNDRAISING VOLUNTEER
ROLE DESCRIPTION
This is a new and exciting voluntary opportunity.
- Responsible to: Chair of Fundraising Committee.
- Direct reports: N/A
- Working hours and contract: This is a voluntary role that consists of x4 Committee meetings per year, preparation for Committee meetings, attending workshops and events.
- Location: At present all remote.
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to serve on our new Fundraising Committee as a Fundraising Independent Committee Member. We are interested in candidates who have broad leadership experience in substantial fundraising operations, successfully generating annual voluntary income of more than 15 million pounds. Our committees are a fundamental part of our governance structure, and members play a pivotal role in guiding our strategic direction, amplifying our impact, and ensuring the fulfilment of our mission to save sight and change lives. Our committees are currently:
- Social Impact & Scientific Research Committee (SISR)
- Finance, Audit, Risk & Resources Committee (FARR)
- People Committee
- Fundraising Committee
- Retail Committee
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Provide mentorship and strategic guidance to the charity, aligning efforts with the mission and values of the organisation.
- Collaborate with other committee members, the executive team, and stakeholders to develop and implement long-term strategies that advance the charity’s impact and sustainability.
Governance
- Ensure effective governance, decision-making, and compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Work closely with other committee members, fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, collaboration and open communication, harnessing different views and opinions.
Engagement
- Represent the charity, when possible, at public events and networking opportunities to promote our mission and raise awareness about our cause.
- Support the development of relationships with key stakeholders, including senior volunteers, high value donors, corporations, and the visually impaired community.
Evaluation and Accountability
- Collaborate with the committee to evaluate performance, ensuring alignment with the charity’s goals and objectives.
- Ensure the charity is accountable to donors and beneficiaries, that is financially robust and sustainable and has effective risk management in place.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Remuneration: this role is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although reasonable expenses may be claimed.
Time commitment: While the exact time commitment may vary based on the charity’s needs and priorities, we anticipate the following general expectations:
- Four committee meetings per year.
- Preparation for meetings, review of materials, and other engagement as appropriate.
- Online meetings with the Director of Development, and Fundraising Committee Chair as appropriate.
- Representing the charity at high profile events, functions and public engagements to enhance its reputation and partnerships.
Location: At present, committee meetings are held remotely.

Reports to: Chief Development Officer
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Head of Fundraising to lead the Fundraising department of Youth Advantage UK. We are looking for somebody with experience of fundraising or finance to support our 4 student volunteer-led branches in becoming financially independent. You will provide coaching and support to the branches to enable them to grow financially and successfully fundraise to support their work against educational inequality in the UK.
Students4Students (S4S) is a national charity which is split across 4 branches, with c.100 volunteers. Our organisational structure is built around our semi-independent branches which are run by student committees. These students are supported via our committee programme.
At each of these committees, we have a student Fundraising Officer. We are looking for somebody to train and support these officers (and the committees as a whole) in their fundraising activities, including showing them how to apply for grants, how to fundraise effective and how to co-ordinate key events. This is an area where we currently do not have a dedicated lead, and we need a push to help support our branches in achieving finanical independence.
As a bonus, we would also welcome you to support our central fundraising efforts through research and applying for grants, and co-ordinating fundraising for the charity as a whole - however this is not a requirement of the role.

Acting as a representative of Blood Cancer UK in the local community, you will help raise money for our life-saving research by creating fundraising opportunities in your local area and being a local champion by raising awareness of our work and research.
The role is extremely varied; one month you could be hosting a quiz night, the next speaking to local businesses who may be potential partners or holding your own event. The options are limitless. Blood Cancer UK Community Fundraising Volunteers play a vital role in strengthening our reach and engagement in local communities - raising awareness of our research,
health information, and support.
You will develop new skills, expand your knowledge, and make a significant contribution to improving the lives of people with blood cancer by helping raise vital funds through fundraising activities. The more events we host, the more people affected by blood cancer we can reach and the more funds we can raise. You'll be part of a large team of dedicated and passionate Community Fundraising Volunteers to help us achieve this goal.
Key activities include:
- Organising your own fundraising events and activities such as quiz nights, music events, luncheons, and supper clubs.
- Attending local community events such as fetes and festivals, selling arts and crafts, baked goods or organising games such as tombolas.

The funds you raise as a Community Fundraising Volunteer will help to beat blood cancer by investing in research that:
- develops cures for those who have blood cancer, now or in the future,
- continually improves the treatment and care for those living with blood cancer today and,
- aims to stop blood cancer before it starts.
Every penny you raise will make a BIG impact on our vital work:
- £100 could fund a researcher to analyse 120 blood cell samples – any one of them could hold the key to a new discovery.
- £210 is enough for us to send expert patient information to everyone diagnosed with blood cancer today.
- £500 could fund a research nurse for three days – ensuring patients have a hand to hold while testing new treatments.

A bit about this role:
Every penny counts when it comes to improving the lives of the thousands of cats and kittens across the UK that need our help each year. Our collection box fundraising volunteers help our volunteer groups raise vital funds by collecting and distributing collection boxes in their local area. Making a difference can mean as little as raising 20p, which is enough to feed one cat in our care for a day, to £150 which is the average cost of a cat in our care.
What can you expect to be doing?
● Overseeing the collection and delivery of collection boxes in different locations
● Recording donations and thanking local businesses and supporters
● Researching local areas for collection box ‘hot spots’
● Sharing fundraising ideas with other volunteers and putting these into practice

Our challenge
The Community Fundraising Team is an integral part of The Charity Fundraising Portfolio and the team consists of Community Fundraisers based across the UK. Our role is to provide fundraising advice & support to our Supporter Groups, Community Organisations, Regional Corporates, Volunteers & Events.
How can you help?
We are recruiting a team of Charity Ambassadors to help develop engagement across each Region, to maximise opportunities to raise funds and increase support from the Community. You will be actively involved with The Charity on the ground and play a key role working alongside the Regional Community Fundraisers, as and when required:
· Identifying various opportunities in your local area to raise awareness of The Charity & our wide range of Fundraising Campaigns. This could anything from contacting your local supermarket’s ‘Community Champion’ and organising an information stand and bucket collection or supporting a Supporter Group meet up in your area.
· Representing The Charity in your area, by undertaking presentations & cheque collections at schools, local companies & community groups
· Helping us to recruit new fundraisers and supporting those who are already signed up for a campaign, in your area. For example, attending a local Twilight Walk or promoting The Big Bake to local companies.

By amplifying The Charity's voice in your local area, you'll help increase the impact of fundraising campaigns & help grow funds and support us in accelerating a cure for everyone affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.

Time commitment
Initially, we envisage a minimum of 2 or 3 days per month, depending on the regional focus, and this will also be guided by whether you are researching new awareness raising opportunities in your area, or setting up a school presentation for example. Flexibility if a key part of the role as we are often presented with exciting opportunities to raise awareness or funds, at short notice.
Practical considerations
You will receive training from the Community Fundraising Team and ongoing direction from a Regional Community Fundraiser, who will be your key contact. We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with the Charity.

Purpose of the role
To conduct research and apply for grants and funding that Rebuilding Lives UK are eligible for. To contribute to fundraising strategies and share and implement fundraising ideas.
What you will be doing
We are looking for fundraiser volunteers to join our team to:
- Lead research for grants and funding that the charity is eligible for.
- Prepare information about grants, trusts and foundations, advising the CEO and Trustees of the requirements for the applications, the deadlines being worked towards and the final outcomes.
- Write and tailor content for grant applications as required.
- Support with the grant application process and build relationships with trusts and other stakeholders.
- Share ideas for fundraising.

Are you a proactive fundraiser and looking to support a small charity? We're looking for 2 energetic and enthusiastic fundraiser volunteers to increase the fundraising opportunities for the charity as well as developing corporate partnerships, legacy giving, individual giving and major donors. This role may also include:
- Develop new and imaginative fundraising activities, many of which involve organising events
- Project manage fundraising events, from inception all the way through to evaluation
- Recruit and promote supporters and volunteers for challenge and national events.
- Assisting with researching and approaching corporate entities for event sponsorships, partnerships, Charity of the Year partnerships, and donations from corporate foundations
- Assisting with writing and delivering grant proposals for funding to trusts, foundations and other institutes
- Writing emails and speaking with potential partners about the work of Burning Nights CRPS Support with the aim of securing funds for the organisation
- Helping to maintain the fundraising database, ensuring accuracy and consistency of all records;
- Development in fundraising opportunities
- Keeping in contact with current & past donors and assisting in finding new donors
- Communicating with past fundraisers and encourage them to consider fundraising in the future
- Assist in marketing our events
- Development / Improvement of fundraising support (e.g fundraising packs and materials)
- Create marketing posts for social media & email marketing
Key & Desirable Skills:
- Fully computer literate and fully able with the main Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint as well as the internet and email
- Knowledge of using CRM systems or ability to learn
- Outgoing, friendly and proactive character
- Good initiative and ability to work with little direct supervision but will ask when help is needed
- Be comfortable volunteering within a small team or by yourself
- Good communication skills - Ability to communicate effectively at a number of different levels
- Ability to communicate effectively by telephone, written correspondence and in person
- Experience of writing funding proposals and working in fundraising would be an advantage
- Strong organisational skills
- Knowledge of corporate fundraising techniques including Charity of the Year, sponsorship, donations, marketing would be an advantage
- An ability to present and engage potential partners/sponsors in a compelling way
- Maintaining strict confidentiality
Practical Considerations:
- Age over 18 only
- Expenses will be given in line with the charity’s expenses policy
- It is an indoor role at one site – your home, but occasionally meetings are held in other offices and in the office of the charity or online
- This role is suitable for people wanting to learn new skills as well as improve previously learnt skills

About the Charity: Burning Nights CRPS Support is a UK wide charity that works to improve life for those living with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), their families, loved ones, carers and friends. As a charity we raise awareness about the condition amongst the public, health and legal professionals by providing CRPS awareness sessions so that patients can be diagnosed quicker to enable treatment to start more rapidly.

Hours: We aim to be transparent about the time commitment required for this role. While we strive to balance the needs of the organization with respect for your time, we anticipate an average of 6 full days per year, in addition to a minimum of 4-6 hours per month. This includes attending key meetings, participating in essential activities, and contributing to ongoing projects. We expect in-person attendance at quarterly Board meetings whenever feasible.
Pay: Unpaid Volunteer role (reasonable expenses will be reimbursed for Board related work)
Duration: 3 years with possible extension.
