We are working in partnership with Weston Hospicecare, a highly regarded local charity founded by the local community over 30 years ago. They are the major provider of specialist palliative care in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, and Sedgemoor, providing free of charge physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual care to local people.

A new Director of Fundraising is sought to provide inspiring leadership to the fundraising function of Weston Hospicecare, implementing a fundraising strategy that will build voluntary income from its current level of £2 million per annum to provide long-term and sustainable income sources for the Hospice. Building a high performing fundraising team, with excellent working relationships throughout the organisation, through effective and decisive leadership, coaching and developing existing staff and recruiting new talent to take the activity forwards will be essential. This is a strategic leadership role, but operational fundraising elements will include taking personal responsibility for major donors and negotiating high value and/or high-profile fundraising partnerships.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the following:

• Proven fundraising experience and a sound working knowledge of all main fundraising methods.
• Excellent track record in leading a team to deliver financial targets.
• Understanding of GDPR legislation and of the Fundraising Code of Conduct as it applies to the work of the charity.
• Ability to work at both strategic and operational level, including project planning, monitoring and evaluation.
• Ability to translate strategic vision into clear direction for the organisation and line reports.
• Track record of managing teams, both salaried and volunteers with a proven ability to recruit, train, monitor performance and nourish talent.

The post holder will work closely with the Trusts and Philanthropy Manager and Director of Fundraising, focusing on securing and nurturing long-term relationships with new major donors.

The TSA is seeking a highly experienced, confident and capable Head of Fundraising to provide leadership and direction on all aspects of income generation. Head of Fundraising responsibilities 

Strategic, leadership and management 

• Provide leadership for fundraising and income generation across the TSA team. Attend regular strategy meetings and be a leading voice in shaping the TSA’s income generation activities 

• Lead in the development, implementation and review of fundraising polices and strategy ensuring they are in line with the overall organisation business plan 

• Provide line management for the Fundraising Manager and Grants and Trusts Manager, including regular meetings and ensuring that the fundraising team are fulfilling all areas of their roles, meeting agreed KPI’s and achieving set income targets 

• Lead on the annual business planning and budget cycle for the income generation 

• Effectively collect and analyse data to demonstrate income trends, the impact of fundraising and income generation. Use this data to inform quarterly reports to the Board of Trustees, determine the impact of the team’s work and drive continual improvements in policy and practice 

• Attend and actively contribute to weekly TSA team meetings 

Income Generation and partnership 

• Lead on all income generation activities, with a focus on developing new fundraising initiatives for corporate giving, major donor fundraising, legacy giving and TSA appeals 

• Develop and deliver short and long-term fundraising and partnership strategy for the TSA. Ensure that the TSA has a balanced portfolio, and the fundraising team successfully delivers income across multiple streams

• Working closely with the Joint Chief Executives and Grants and Trusts Manager, expand the TSA’s range of research funding sources to include public, academic, commercial and innovation funding alongside investment from the TSA itself 

• Accurately forecast and monitor against income generation targets 

• Identify opportunities to work with partners on areas of common interest where the TSA can achieve more through joint funding, gifts in kind (such as time or services) or delivering joint projects than the charity could do by working alone 

• Ensure the TSA’s fundraising policies, procedures are up to date and that all fundraising activities comply with law and the Fundraising Regulator guidelines 

• Continue to maintain established, and develop new relationships with potential fundraising supporters and partners across all sectors 

Marketing and communications responsibilities 

• Work closely with the communications team to develop inspiring fundraising campaigns, appeals, cases for support and content for distribution across all digital platforms,including social media, e-newsletters and Scan magazine, website and fundraising platforms 

• Continue to strengthen our supporter engagement plans to identify and build excellent working relationships that leads to increase income 

General responsibilities 

• Adhere to all TSA policies, procedures, values and behaviours 

• Comply with all internal and external Health and Safety requirements and complete Risk Assessments as appropriate 

• Work as part of a small fundraising team, you will enjoy taking on new challenges and happy to work flexibly as the TSA continues to develop and grow

The post holder must be prepared to work flexibly to meet the needs of the organisation. This may entail occasional evening and weekend work. Occasional travel within the UK may be required for team meetings and events.

The Corporate Fundraising Officer will be instrumental in generating income and in-kind support from local businesses and corporate partners. • Develop, lead and deliver the fundraising strategy – focused on diversification and sustainable income whilst remaining hands on in the establishment of new income streams.
• Establish clear stewardship plans for all supporters, maximising their engagement with the charity.
• Develop and implement the communications strategy – utilising external comms to engage supporters and underpin income generation whilst raising awareness about the issues faced by unaccompanied child refugees.
• Oversee the generation of tailored, multimedia content that raises awareness of the charity and drives increased support.

Person Specification:

• Proven expertise of fundraising across different income streams (e.g. trusts and foundations, community, regional, philanthropy). Expertise of developing new income streams from scratch/a low base would be beneficial but not essential.

• Experience of working in a communications role/closely with communications teams to maximise the opportunities to engage externally and increase support/awareness.
• Creative approach to fundraising, with realistic ambitions within a small charity environment.

The organisation

Every year in the UK, around 100 children are diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that mostly affects children under five. Neuroblastoma UK is a small national charity dedicated to finding a cure for this life-threatening disease - and is seeking a talented Senior Fundraising Officer to help us raise vital funds. 

For 40 years, we’ve funded leading research to develop new, more effective and kinder treatments for children with neuroblastoma. You’ll be joining us at an exciting time for the charity as look to fund further research projects to help fight childhood cancer and save more young lives, and build our profile across the national media and social media channels, using the support of our celebrity patrons and families. 

The role

The Senior Fundraising Officer is responsible for managing our portfolio of events and liaising with our community fundraisers to maximise their fundraising, as well as managing our individual supporters and managing fundraising admin across multiple areas. A key part of the role is ensuring our fundraising is compliant and developing strong relationships with our fundraisers. 

The charity has a small team so everyone helps with thanking and banking, database management and administrative tasks and this role gives you the opportunity to have lots of autonomy and creative freedom in developing our fundraising.

Currently, this role reports to a committed Board of Trustees, many of whom have a personal connection to the cause.

Responsibilities

• Managing our portfolio of challenge events and their participants, as well as the relationships with our committed community fundraisers, to support them and help them to maximise their fundraising.

• Promoting and managing our small Lottery product, ensuring we are compliant with regulations.

• Ensuring all relevant fundraising administration is carried out to ensure that, for example, the database is kept up to date, that we can accurately report on income etc. 

• Ensuring assets are regularly reviewed and updated.

• Supporting the Senior Communications Officer to develop, maintain and deliver annual social media calendar, developing engaging, impactful and relevant content, monitoring comments and engagements.

• Supporting in duties outside of your specific team or department as required.

About the Role

We are seeking to recruit a creative and ambitious Fundraising and Communications Officer.

As our reach and impact has increased significantly in recent years, so has our income, and this new role has been created in response to that demand.  This is an exciting opportunity for a fundraiser who wants to widen, or consolidate, their knowledge and experience of fundraising, in an international context, as well as gain communications experience.

We are a very small team so the role will cover a breadth of funding streams, with a particular focus on Trusts and Foundations, High Value Donors, and Events, both special and community.  It is therefore important that you have excellent writing and interpersonal skills, and solid experience of crafting successful funding applications.  You will also need excellent planning and organisational skills.

The role can, to some extent, be shaped by the skills and experience of the successful candidate, but it is likely to include the following responsibilities.

 Key Responsibilities

• Steward, retain and grow the support of our existing donor portfolio: KHULA has an existing portfolio of donors including trusts, foundations, corporates, major donors, individual and regular givers, the majority of whom are based in the UK or South Africa. Alongside the Director of Fundraising and Communications, the post holder will be responsible for managing these relationships, including bespoke reporting for trusts and major donors and taking responsibility for their own portfolio of donors.
• Donor prospecting and new business: researching and generating new donor leads as well as acting on opportunities provided by our Board and others, converting prospects into supporters of our programmes.
• ​​External communications: working alongside the Director of Fundraising and Communications, assisting in the creation of our quarterly e-newsletter and the Annual Report, managing our social media channels, in addition to other ad hoc external communications.
• Events: supporting our community and events fundraisers and assisting with the organisation of occasional special events, alongside Board members.
• Fundraising innovation: assisting in the development of creative campaigns to increase donations/recruit lapsed donors, developing products and offerings.
• Financial management and admin: maintaining our donor database and contributing to fundraising budgets and forecasts. 

Person Specification

Experience of working in a smaller charity and team is beneficial as this is a very hands-on role, covering a wide range of responsibilities.

We are particularly interested to hear from candidates who demonstrate most/all of the following attributes:

• A proven, demonstrable track record of submitting successful funding applications.
• Experience in successfully fundraising from one or more of trusts, foundations, high value donors and corporates.
• Experience of community and events fundraising, including promoting events and supporting participants.
• Excellent communication writing skills.
• Personal or professional experience of a range of social media channels.
• Good IT Skills (Microsoft Office, Mailchimp, CRM systems (we use Donorfy))
• Self-motivated and able to work autonomously with a largely virtual team

This is a pivotal time to join our growing Fundraising team as we work towards our strategy. As our Statutory Fundraising & Partnerships Manager, you will manage existing and develop new commissioner and partner relationships across local and central government, voluntary sector partnerships and other funding bodies, to ensure we can meet the needs of the increasing number of women we support across London and build on our systems influencing work nationally.

The charity, established almost thirty years ago to meet the gap in specialist mental health services, is led by and for women and aims to ensure that women affected by domestic abuse can live a life free from further harm and abuse. Our approach is trauma-informed and person-centred, empowering survivors on their journey to recovery from the trauma. We support 900 women and children annually, with an income of £1.04m and 41 staff in 2023/24. You will be joining the Woman’s Trust Fundraising team as we work towards our strategy 2022-2027, to double our income and the number of women we support each year. We are focused on developing innovative mental health services for young women and girls, launching peer-led support groups and providing therapeutic groups to children and their mothers. We are also committed to developing further awareness-raising workshops, and training for professionals and building on our research and policy work to improve systems nationally.

About you and how to apply

As a creative and tenacious fundraiser, aligned to our feminist ethos and our service users', you will have experience in securing multiple-year statutory grants and contracts, with the proven ability to effectively communicate services, and to develop commissioner and wider voluntary sector relationships, aligned to our strategic priorities. You will be able to manage and deliver the whole cycle of income generation, including regular prospecting, grant management and impactful funder reporting.
