The Smart Works service is delivered in 11 centres across the UK. Over the past ten years, Smart Works has helped over 35,000 women. It is our mission that any woman who needs our service should be able to find her way to a Smart Works centre. To achieve this, the charity is expanding and opening new centres in areas of need. ABOUT THE ROLE
In early 2025, Smart Works will open a new centre in the city centre of Bristol. Opening a twelfth centre will make Smart Works services accessible and available to more unemployed women ahead of their job interviews.
Smart Works is looking to appoint an experienced leader who is passionate about our work to lead the opening of the new centre.
The successful candidate will work closely with the central Smart Works Charity team to establish the centre in Bristol. In practice the role will involve identifying a suitable location for the centre, recruiting a skilled volunteer team, establishing a supporter base in Bristol and building partnerships with local referral organisations, corporate partners and funders.
Once in post, the Head of Bristol will appoint three additional staff members, building a founding team who will ensure the newest Smart Works centre is set-up for success. A founding Board of Trustees will also be appointed to provide local insight, expertise and support.
Throughout, the Head of Bristol will work closely with the Smart Works Charity Head of Programmes and experienced central team. There is an established blueprint for opening a new centre that will guide the process, with central support covering Finance, People & HR, Communications, Fundraising, Wardrobe and Operations.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity for someone who is a natural self-starter, enjoys seeing a project through from beginning to end and is passionate about supporting women into employment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Appointing and managing a staff team of four and a volunteer community of over 50, ensuring all team members thrive in their roles and continue to develop their skills.
Supporting each direct report with project deliverables and identifying continuous improvement opportunities in our ways of working. This work will sit across fundraising, service delivery and outreach work with referral partner organisations.
Overseeing the establishment, set-up and smooth running of the Bristol centre. Acting as the Designated Safeguarding Officer for the Bristol centre, following established training, guidance and procedures.
Acting as the day-to-day contact for the Smart Works Charity finance team, overseeing day-to-day spend and budgeting, contributing to reforecasting exercises and ensuring established processes are followed.
Delivering financial activities to target, maintaining an up to date database with relevant income tracking and pipeline information to facilitate regular financial reporting to the Board of Trustees and timely process reconciliation with the Board Treasurer and Group Finance team.
Championing the Smart Works service within Bristol, including supporting the team to raise awareness of the charity and increase the supporter community through social media campaigns and in-person events throughout the year.

Essential criteria
- Outstanding interpersonal and team management and leadership skills.
- Experience of generating income from a variety of sources, ideally including the organisation of fundraising events and the submission of grant applications.
- Demonstrable experience of securing new business and onboarding new partners.

Job Purpose: To keep our office functioning smoothly. This is a multi-faceted role working closely with two other members of staff. This is a great opportunity for an organised self-starter who is interested in getting more experience in international development and the charitable sector.

Salary: £26,000 pro rata
Hours: 14 hours per week (equivalent to 2 working days) – ideally Wednesday and Thursday.

1 SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1.1 Office Management
- Oversee the day to day running of the office, including communication with enquirers and supporters.
- Ensure office is compliant with Health and Safety requirements. Ensure compliance with data protection requirements.
- Ensure resources, IT and communication equipment is appropriate and available for staff and volunteer needs.
- Maintain office equipment, stationery and supplies.
- Be the point of contact for the landlord and any other tenants in the shared building.
1.2 Finance (record keeping)

1.3 Administrative support to Fundraising events

1.4 Communications
- Using online tools to design and distribute Action Village India’s e-newsletter.
- Uploading information on Action Village India’s website.
- Maintaining and servicing the donor and members’ database.
- Correspondence with supporters and donors.
- Production and printing of leaflets, advertisements and maintaining records of appeals.
- Distribution of mailings for appeals, newsletters and to our membership – including email groups.

Finance Manager
We are seeking an experienced, qualified accountant to take over and lead the financial management functions at an important charity.

About the role:
Working with the CEO, the post-holder will ensure the charity functions effectively and has long-term financial viability and sustainability. The post-holder, in conjunction with the Treasurer, will ensure the Board meets its fiscal responsibilities and all regulatory requirements are complied with.
You will advise, report to, and consult with the CEO on all matters relating to the management of RSG's financial resources and on external factors that may affect its financial situation. You will also prepare, maintain and develop financial policies and procedures, including effective systems of financial control ensuring they are updated as necessary in a timely manner.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Lead the annual budget-setting process, liaising with the CEO and relevant managers to produce income, cost and year-end projections that are agreed upon by the Senior Management Team and Board of Trustees.
- Track the financial performance of RSG against the budget every month, providing monthly financial reports, forecasts and commentary to the Trustees and individual reports to service managers.
- Prepare quarterly management accounts to agreed reporting deadlines.
- Lead the production of the RSG’s annual accounts to ensure they are accurate and submitted on time.
- To lead, manage and develop finance staff, including providing support, guidance and training; appraise and manage performance, ensuring the finance team workflow is managed effectively.
- Provide management support and coaching for staff on financial matters as required.
- Ensure that recording of income and expenditure, bank reconciliation, payment of invoices and reclamation of Gift Aid are administered accurately and on time.
- Produce quarterly VAT returns.

- Managing company databases, including tracking and managing donor information and regular reporting to the Board of Trustees. Relevant programmes include Salesforce, Mailchimp and the website backend. No prior experience with these programmes required - training will be provided.
- Using data to facilitate ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the team’s progress in fundraising, sales and marketing, and addressing points of inefficiency to optimise conversions.
- Supporting website development and maintenance, including updating copy and visuals, and liaising with web developer.

About you
As a Supporter Services Officer you’ll be part of a busy team delivering an outstanding multi-channel contact service to Practical Action’s existing and potential supporters and donors. You will have a passion for people and will always be looking to go the extra mile to help others.
Previous experience of processing financial transactions and delivering high levels of customer service is essential and you’ll enjoy talking to supporters over the telephone, via email or letter. The post-holder will report directly to the Supporter Experience Manager and will regularly collaborate with the rest of the Supporter Experience, Insight, Trusts and Major Donor and Digital teams. The post-holder will be expected to liaise effectively with other staff and teams across the Marketing Directorate.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Supporter Relationship Management
- To provide the best possible experience for our supporters, at all points of contact, including email, phone and postal channels.
- To keep informed and up to date about all relevant activities of Practical Action in the countries of operation, retaining and managing information needed to respond to supporters.
- To make outbound telephone calls and emails as required to new supporters, follow up queries, verify details or thank donors, acting as an ambassador for Supporter Services and Practical Action at all times.
Income Processing / Database Management
- To deal with incoming and outgoing post, all donations made online via the Practical Action website and other charitable giving platforms, ensuring all donations are handled accurately and in line with agreed procedures.
- To process cash donations effectively and accurately onto our database.
- To produce and send out letters of acknowledgement to supporters, personalising these communications appropriately.
- To set up Direct Debits/Standing Orders, handle upgrades and other changes to committed gifts, issuing appropriate communications to supporters.
- To accurately process and commit Direct Debit claims.
- To manage Gift Aid on supporter records. This will include setting up new declarations, ending and cancelling declarations and sending out notifications to supporters.
- To deal with new supporters’ welcome communications.
- To liaise with supporters regarding cancellation of donations.
- To update supporter information on the database such as personal details, communication preferences, and other indications of interest or activities to ensure that all our donor information is up to date.
- To undertake manual data entry where required, and to work to avoid the need for duplication of data entry, and ensure automation where possible.
- To pull information required, download and process third party donations ensuring that they are compliant with GDPR.
Compliance
- To keep abreast of all legislation relating to charitable giving such as PCI DSS, Institute of Fundraising guidelines and best practice, Data Protection and Gift Aid Regulations.
- To ensure data is managed to appropriate standards of data protection and security.
- To be aware of and consistently using organisational policies and procedures
Team Working
- To undertake and participate on projects as directed by the Supporter Experience Manager.
- To work closely with the team to review and improve practices and procedures, implementing positive changes and improving efficiency.
- To contribute to organisational meetings e.g. Stand Up, team away days etc.
- To be proactive in joining cross functional working groups.
- To work closely with the finance and fundraising teams to ensure that all processes are working to the highest standard.
- To undertake other tasks that may be reasonably requested by the Supporter Experience Manager and Head of Supporter Experience and Digital.
PERSON PROFILE
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
- Relevant experience in a customer or supporter service environment with experience of processing financial transactions and using a CRM database.
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including English and Mathematics

ABOUT US
The Scottish Rainforest Centre (SRC) was established as a Scottish charity (SCIO) in 2022 to develop a Rainforest Centre. The SRC will be an education and accommodation hub providing access and educational and research opportunities for people to visit the rainforest and get involved in its preservation and restoration.
THE ROLE
The SRC’s aim is to become a centre of scientific excellence and research within the rainforest zone, supporting scientists, researchers and volunteers working on rainforest regeneration and providing an affordable base for their field work and research. Embedded in the local community, the SRC will work closely with project partners, providing opportunities for local people, schools and disadvantaged groups to provide skills development and training opportunities.
The SRC Development Officer will work closely with and report to the SRC Managing Trustee to realise the aims and objectives of the Centre and liaise closely with other project staff on the National Lottery Heritage funded Building capacity to save Scotland’s Rainforest project.
As part of the development stage for the Building capacity project you will develop an events and engagement programme which provides opportunities for users to engage with the SRC, particularly schools and disadvantaged groups. You will work with local communities and partner organisations to develop rural skills development and learning opportunities, and build the confidence of practitioners and group leaders to use the site for education purposes.
The position will be home based with a willingness to travel.
This is a part-time (22.5 hours per week), 15-month, fixed-term position. Should our funding bid for the subsequent five-year ‘delivery’ phase be successful, we hope the CDO will remain in post to support the delivery of these plans.
THE CANDIDATE
You will have experience building relationships with a range of stakeholders including community organisations and are comfortable collaborating and engaging effectively for different outcomes e.g. learning, consultation or facilitation.
You will have the confidence to liaise with environmental organisations, academic institutions and other stakeholders to help develop monitoring and research opportunities at the SRC.
You will be able to confidently organise and deliver a range of events from online webinars to community gatherings; have working knowledge of using social media for marketing, capturing interesting content and writing engaging stories, and you’ll be happy self-managing a diverse and varied workload.
Plus you’ll have experience working as part of a project team, supporting funding bids, budgeting for, and reporting on the impact of your activity. Oh and have a genuine interest in Scotland’s rainforest of course!

Young Sounds exists because musical talent is everywhere but opportunity isn’t: family finances and other obstacles too often get in the way. We’re here to change this in two key ways:
• We support young musicians from low-income families with funding and other help;

The Data Officer will fulfil an important cross-organisational role, working closely with the team to collate and analyse the data collected through all our programmes. Young Sounds is a reflective organisation. We’ve always invested time and effort in seeking out, understanding and demonstrating the difference our programmes are making. Since 2023 we have committed to evaluating all three of our main programmes, each of which tackles a key barrier to young people’s musical progression. The Role

You will also be able to engage wider stakeholders in our acquisition testing plan development, providing clear regular communication to update on progress and learnings.
