Job description

Join our Board!

DeafReach is looking for skilled and passionate people to join our board. We are seeking to strengthen our board by recruiting trustees who can contribute their expertise, helping us to better support the communities we serve.

DeafReach

DeafReach is a registered charity (Charity No. 1208167) that supports children and young people who are deaf and deafblind in Sub-Saharan Africa through education, employment, and community projects. We work in Uganda, Rwanda, Malawi, Burundi, and DRC Congo. Through our projects, we have worked with hundreds of schools to support thousands of children to access a quality education.

The Role

The role of a trustee at DeafReach is to provide governance, leadership, and strategic direction for the charity. As we are a small team with only one staff member, trustees have the opportunity to be more hands-on and contribute to specific areas of the charity's operations, adding valuable capacity and expertise. This is a chance to make a direct impact on our work and the communities we serve.

DeafReach is seeking to strengthen our well-run board, which already benefits from a good range of skills. Following the recent incorporation of the charity, we have identified key areas where we believe we would benefit from trustees with specific expertise—primarily in fundraising, international development, and marketing.

We encourage applications from all backgrounds, and no previous board experience is necessary.

People with connections to Sub-Saharan Africa and/or Deafness are particularly sort.

What is the commitment?

Trustees meet approximately four times a year in London, usually in Kew during the day on a Saturday. Outside of the meetings, trustees will be expected to engage in decision-making and share opinions on proposals.
