Job description

Volunteer Trustee

Unlock YOUR Potential – Adult Social Mobility Charity

Location: Remote

Hours: Flexible

Type: Volunteer Leadership Role

Join Our Board and Help Shape the Next Chapter of a Charity That Changes Lives

Unlock YOUR Potential is an ambitious adult social mobility charity dedicated to supporting people from deprived communities to gain the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to transform their lives. Through programmes in employability, personal development, wellbeing, and life skills, we empower adults to break cycles of disadvantage and step into brighter futures.

As we enter our next chapter of growth, we are seeking passionate, committed Trustees to join our Board and help steer the strategic direction, governance, and long‑term impact of our charity. This is a pivotal moment in our development — and your leadership could help shape a national movement for adult social mobility.

Your insight, experience, and judgement will directly support people who deserve a second chance at success.

The Role: Volunteer Trustee

As a Trustee, you will play a central role in guiding the charity’s strategy, governance, and mission delivery. You will work closely with the Founder and fellow Board members to ensure Unlock YOUR Potential is impactful, sustainable, and governed to the highest standards.

This is an opportunity to help shape a young, values‑driven charity as it grows — bringing your expertise, perspective, and passion to a mission that matters.

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to the strategic vision, direction, and long‑term planning of the charity.

  • Ensure strong governance, transparency, and compliance with Charity Commission requirements.

  • Support the development of programmes, partnerships, and income streams.

  • Provide constructive challenge, insight, and oversight across key areas of the charity’s work.

  • Champion our mission, values, and commitment to social mobility and equality.

  • Act as an ambassador for the charity, helping build relationships and credibility.

  • Work collaboratively with the Board and Founder to guide the charity through growth and change.

  • Bring your professional expertise to strengthen decision‑making, risk management, and organisational development.

What You’ll Bring

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of professional backgrounds. You do not need prior trustee experience — just the willingness to learn and the commitment to govern responsibly.

You will bring:

  • Professional expertise in any relevant field (e.g., governance, HR, operations, finance, safeguarding, fundraising, community development, communications, lived experience, or leadership).

  • Strong judgement, integrity, and a commitment to good governance.

  • A passion for social mobility, equality, and empowering adults to thrive.

  • The ability to think strategically and contribute to high‑level decision‑making.

  • A collaborative, supportive, and mission‑driven mindset.

  • The confidence to ask questions, challenge constructively, and champion accountability.

What You’ll Gain

  • A senior leadership role shaping the future of a national‑ambition charity.

  • The opportunity to influence systems, culture, and strategy at a formative stage.

  • Valuable governance experience for your professional development.

  • Flexible volunteering that fits around your life and commitments.

  • The fulfilment of knowing your leadership is helping adults transform their lives.

Be a Steward of a Mission That Matters

If you’re ready to use your expertise, insight, and passion to support a charity with heart, purpose, and ambition, we would love to hear from you.

Apply today and help guide Unlock YOUR Potential into its next chapter — building a transparent, impactful, and life‑changing charity for the communities we serve.
