About the Role
You will be joining at an exciting time for Ataxia UK as we celebrate our 60th anniversary year.
This brand-new role is an important part of our new strategy to sustainably grow our unrestricted income. Working closely with the Director of Fundraising & Communications and the wider team, the Senior Philanthropy Manager will lead the work to build a pipeline of major donors and family trusts and foundations.
You will be responsible for developing an excellent stewardship programme which nurtures income-generating relationships with Ataxia UK’s major donors. You will initially work with a fixed-term Philanthropy Consultant to lead the development of a researched and actionable pipeline of prospective new donors, and you will then work to successfully engage this pipeline. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a brand-new function as a senior member of an experienced team of fundraisers.
Ataxia UK operates a hybrid- working policy, with part time staff working 3 or 4 days a week expected to work from our offices in Highgate a minimum of 1 day a week. The role will require some occasional travel within the UK and, more rarely, internationally.
About you
The right candidate will be a natural relationship builder with a proven track record of securing high value, long term partnerships with major donors; personally securing 5 and 6-figure gifts.
You will use excellent communication skills to write compelling and tailored cases for support. As a key member of the Fundraising & Communications department, you will bring creativity, insight and experience to the team, and you will be a confident ambassador and representative internally and externally.
As an experienced major donor fundraiser, you will be comfortable and confident engaging with High-Net-Worth Individuals and their offices, celebrities, politicians and c-suite professionals. You will have the flexibility to join events and or meet donors and prospective donors at locations around the UK. As an ambassador of our brand, you will have the skills and experience to ensure you positively represent the interests of the ataxia community, and you will be someone who shares our commitment to supporting those affected by ataxia.

Our Network Liasion Officer is a key role in the delivery of YUF’s work supporting uniformed youth organisations that have funding from DCMS from their Uniformed Youth Fund. Tragically, 1-2 seemingly healthy children die in the UK every fortnight, often going to sleep and never waking up. This incidence is unchanging. SUDC UK was founded in 2017 to raise awareness of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC), encourage and fund scientific research and offer support and advice to affected families. We believe SUDC research should receive more attention and scientific investment and are inspired by efforts to impact SIDS (cot death), where there has been an 80% reduction in infant deaths in the past 30 years. We can do so much more for SUDC children and their families.

Build Up is a charity that runs practical construction projects across London, supporting young people aged 10-23 years old to shape their local area. We’re looking for a Programme Manager to join us and lead the delivery of these projects.
The role
You’ll coordinate Build Up’s year-round programme of youth-led design and construction projects, managing two Construction Project Managers to deliver them. You’ll develop project ideas selected by our young people and support our team to set up strong working partnerships. Overseeing Build Up’s pipeline of new projects and working with our fundraisers and partners to bring them to fruition will be central to your role.

We’re looking for someone who can work flexibly across projects, balancing immediate and longer term priorities. About the role

ROLE PURPOSE
The Fundraising Officer will be a vital member of the Mass Fundraising team, responsible for supporting all activity across Community and Events. They will be instrumental in supporting the Community and Events team to achieve our income targets and grow Community & Events from £400,000 to £550,000 over the next five years and by 29/30.
This role will focus on providing exceptional stewardship, delivering a calendar of community and events fundraising, and ensuring accurate data management to enhance donor engagement. Community Fundraising
- Lead outreach efforts to engage at least 10 new local community partners, such as businesses, schools, and clubs, promoting fundraising opportunities and supporting their initiatives.
- Provide stewardship for in-memory and in-celebration fundraisers, ensuring they receive the information and support needed to maximise their fundraising potential.

Supporter Care
- Serve as the primary point of contact for 200+ community and events fundraisers, delivering outstanding stewardship that enhances their experience with the charity.
- Provide timely and effective follow-up communications with supporters, ensuring they feel valued and engaged.
- Process cash and cheque donations for Community & Events income, including ensuring this income is processed and recorded accurately on our database which may include batch uploads.
- Provide front desk coverage, welcoming visitors and donors at the Welcome Office and serving as a friendly and helpful representative of the organisation for 2-3 days/week.
- Maintain accurate records in our CRM (Raiser’s Edge) to track communications, income, and supporter preferences, ensuring compliance with GDPR and data protection laws.
- Continuously evaluate and suggest improvements to the supporter journey, aiming to enhance retention and engagement.
Administrative and Financial Support
- Process incoming donations and ensure timely acknowledgment and thank-you communications to all supporters.
- Work closely with the finance and data teams to reconcile donations, maintain accurate records, and support budget management for community and event fundraising activities.
- Assist in developing and adhering to fundraising budgets, tracking income, and ensuring effective expenditure management.
Marketing and Communication
- Create engaging materials and content to inspire participation in fundraising activities and distribute these to potential supporters. This could include posters, social media posts, newsletters.

ROLE PURPOSE
The Community and Events Fundraising Manager will be a vital member of the Mass Fundraising team, responsible for leading activity across Community and Events. They will be instrumental in driving the Community and Events team to achieve our income targets and grow Community & Events from £400,000 to £550,000 over the next five years and by 29/30.
This role will focus on identifying and nurturing impactful fundraising relationships, providing exceptional stewardship and delivering a calendar of community and events fundraising. The ideal candidate will be able to implement effective income growth strategies, particularly in working with local companies and in memory fundraisers. Working with the Mass Fundraising Officer, the postholder will be responsible for marketing our community and events programme to increase the number of people fundraising for St George’s Hospital Charity and ensure the community and events programme provides a positive ROI. They will have a confident knowledge of fundraising regulation and responsible data management to ensure community and events activity is delivered in line with best practice.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning & Delivery
- Develop and implement the community and events fundraising strategy in line with KPIs and budgets set out in the annual business plan and fundraising strategy.
- Lead on the day-to-day management of the community and events fundraising plan to increase net income and supporter numbers.
- Monitor community and events activities to ensure compliance with fundraising guidelines and promote best practice.
Fundraising Development
- Work with the Head of Mass Fundraising to develop the community and events portfolio, including the development of new products, with the aim to achieve significant and sustainable growth of unrestricted income.
- Identify and cultivate relationships in the local community to generate new income from audiences including schools, community groups, local corporates, and mid-high value individual fundraisers.
- Work closely with the communications team to effectively market community and challenge events fundraising to grow supporter numbers and income.
- Work closely with fundraising colleagues to ensure a collaborative approach to the delivery of excellent stewardship and new business development.
- Continually develop community and events supporter journeys to give our fundraisers a memorable and meaningful experience fundraising for St George’s Hospital Charity and encourage repeat fundraising.
- Attend events and activities to promote the work of the charity.
Financial Management
- Prepare, monitor and manage income and expenditure budgets and reforecasts.
- Prepare reports and evaluations of the community and events portfolio as required.
- Work with the Database Manager to effectively monitor key performance indicators for community and events activities, ensuring that targets are met and ROI maximised.
- Ensure that gift aid is maximised wherever possible.
People & Relationships
- Manage, motivate and develop the Mass Fundraising Officer.
- Manage office and events volunteers including maintaining a volunteer database.
- Build positive, collaborative relationships within the organisation, NHS Trust and wider community to support income generation.
Staff Management
Carry out all line management duties in line with organisational policy and procedure, including:

JOB OVERVIEW
Working with the Events & Community Fundraising Coordinator, the Community Fundraising Officer will be responsible for planning and delivering a varied programme of community fundraising activities. This currently includes a recipe club, fundraising campaigns, online raffle and auctions, and attendance at events, alongside supporting individuals, organisations and groups who are organising fundraising events on behalf of the Trust.
While prior third sector experience is required, it's just as important that the successful candidate has excellent communication skills and strong organisational and administrative abilities. This is an exciting time to join the team as we drive a new strategy forwards to widen our presence across the country and increase active involvement with the Trust.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver polished supporter journeys for all community fundraisers, ensuring maximum fundraising returns.
- Answer general enquiries and distribute community fundraising packs to supporters who are holding local events or participating in our fundraising campaigns.
- Recruit and manage volunteers, encouraging them to promote the Trust within their local community through event attendance and fundraising initiatives.
- Organise volunteer attendance at the Trust’s own challenge events, including Trailwalker. Handle requests from supporters for Trust representative to attend events, talks or cheque presentations.
- Identify appropriate third party events and manage the Trust’s attendance, with the aim of engaging with supporters, recruiting volunteers, and strengthening the Trust’s brand.
- Work with the Events & Community Fundraising Coordinator to develop a yearly strategy to grow income from community fundraising in line with the wider strategy. Develop new income streams through campaigns and/or introducing new communities to the work of the Trust.
- Formulate and oversee the annual Community Fundraising budget, including income and expenditure. Liaise with the donations processing and Finance teams to ensure challenge and community income is allocated and recorded correctly.
- Work with the Communications team to ensure effective promotion of community fundraising initiatives across all relevant mediums.
- Work with the Communications team to showcase any new initiatives, developing attractive and innovative fundraising assets and ensuring they are readily available for our supporters. Set up smooth, accessible sign-up processes, capturing contact preferences and relevant data that will assist with evaluation and analysis.
- Monitor and report on agreed KPIs relating to Community Fundraising.
