We are looking for a Payments and Expenses Officer to join our Finance Business Processes team at RBL.

Based within a team of Payments and Expenses Officers, this role will see you as part of a group responsible for the accurate processing and reconciliation of expenditure across RBL. Working quickly and with high attention to detail against deadlines will be a key component of your work, as you provide an exceptional level of service to internal and external customers daily.

Reporting to our Finance and Expenses Supervisor, key responsibilities will include:

- Ensuring that all expenditure for allocated accounts is accurately recorded, supplier accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis and that payments are made in line with agreed timelines
- Identifying any errors or discrepancies, following them up with the relevant team or the supplier on a timely basis
- Taking responsibility for the month end process for the areas allocated, including month-end tasks such as accruals and prepayments
- Building relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, budget holders and Finance Business Partners

Finance and Resources Manager (Full Time)

Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse (AAFDA) was founded by Frank Mullane in memory of his sister Julia Pemberton and her son Will who were both killed by her ex-partner in 2003.  

Each year, around 150 families lose a loved one to domestic homicide. The actual number of suicides as a result of domestic abuse remains unknown. AAFDA’s prime function is to provide families in England and Wales with specialist peer support and expert and specialist advocacy for the range of statutory reviews that will take place after domestic homicide.

As a growing charity, AAFDA is looking for an exceptional candidate to join our supportive team and lead our finance and resource management functions. The role will provide and manage the HR, administration and finance activities of the charity and sit within the Senior Leadership Team.

Reporting directly into the CEO, you will be responsible for developing and implementing our financial strategy, long-term financial planning, and developing commercial strategies to maximise income and operating contribution. You will also have responsibility of cash management, risk management and governance. You will be the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) for the organisation and will lead on Property and Procurement.

Job Description 

The Finance Manager is responsible for the management and technical support of the Finance function and acts as advisor to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and assists in the development of the organisation’s financial strategy, modelling new projects, preparing budgets and reporting on financial performance. 

You will also be responsible for maintaining accounts on Xero and all related bookkeeping tasks.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Responsibility for bookkeeping on the organisation’s accounting system (Xero);

• Preparation of accurate and timely monthly management accounts for the organisation and individual cost centres, including variance analysis and reports for the Board. This information should include a short narrative on the current position, future prospects, and financial risks and opportunities. The reports will be tailored as necessary for the Board and management; 

• Provide robust financial information including accurate balance sheets and a rolling cash flow forecast; 

• Act as key point of contact for project budget holders on financial matters;

• Carry out regular reviews of spending under various grants, alerting budget holders and CEO to any actual or potential over or underspend;

• Work with CEO and managers on fundraising bids and financial reports for funders;

• Produce statutory accounts, files and schedules, in partnership with the3million’s accounting firm; 

• Monitor records of all funding and funding sources and the appropriate allocation of incoming funding;

• Monitor monthly accrual of income and expenditure, deferral of income, maintenance of reconciliation to Xero, balance sheet changes and undertake bank reconciliations;

• Monitor the accounts mailbox and ensure invoices are included in the accounting system, answering internal and external queries as they arise;

• Act as main point of contact with banks, service providers, suppliers (when appropriate) and auditors;

• Other duties as requested by the CEO.

Person Specification

The post requires the holder to:

• Have an appropriate accounting qualification – in full or part (AAT, ICAEW, CIMA or ACCA);

• Have a minimum of three years of professional experience, including experience of operating within a not-for-profit organisation (managing accounts for restricted and unrestricted funds);

• Be proficient in Xero Online accounting software and Excel spreadsheets, including experience in using Power Query;

• Be comfortable with the financial systems typical of a small organisation, including financial monitoring and reporting to a range of different funding sources;

• Have some experience of projects finances and understand the financial implications behind an efficient delivery strategy;

• Be honest and reliable;

• Ability to work on own initiative when appropriate and seek guidance when necessary;

• Commitment to the values of a small organisation that works on social justice issues;

• In support of EU citizens in the UK;

• Have the right to work in the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure timely and accurate financial statements and management accounts.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to align financial control initiatives with organisation's strategic goals
• Develop and maintain robust controls, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and standards.
• Lead external audits and manage regulatory compliance.
• Oversee tax compliance and planning, including VAT and corporation tax.
• Lead budgeting processes, providing financial analysis and insight.
• Responsible for the collaboration with internal teams, offering data-driven financial insights to support decision-making.
• Implement Finance-related SLAs and KPIs to measure team effectiveness.
• Support and deputise for Finance Director when needed
• Optimise finance systems and drive continuous improvement in processes.
• Strong leadership skills; mentoring and develop a high-performing finance team.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
• Proven experience in financial control, audit, and compliance.
• Strong leadership and business partnering abilities.
• Strong experience in tax planning and compliance, particularly VAT and corporation tax.
• Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting systems.
• Ideally background within housing
• Minimum of 5 years in a senior financial role, with experience in leading finance functions.

We are looking for an agile, proactive individual who will join the team as Finance Manager working closely with the CEO and two finance officers to coordinate and deliver Black Minds Matter UK’s financial activities and strategic objectives.

Finance Manager
Location: Remote. With the option to attend a co-working hub on an ad hoc basis.
Salary: £36,000 per annum FTE (including London weighting)
Contract: Part time, 15-22.5 hours per week - permanent with time available Monday - Friday.

This role will be suited to someone who is detail oriented, highly effective at financial management and controls in a charity environment, able to support non-finance managers with budget management.

You will be a strategic thinker and efficient planner who enjoys working as a core small team and is self-motivated when working remotely. We are looking for someone who is looking for an active and responsible role in a friendly and highly supportive organisation.

As the Finance Manager you will play a crucial role in helping us succeed in achieving and setting financial goals and objectives.

Qualifications and Experience:

To be successful in this role, we seek the following qualifications and experience:

• Be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience.
• Circa 3+ years experience PQE.
• Must have demonstrable experience of leading a team.
• Must be a strong communicator throughout the organisation.
• Any additional qualification in charity finance or leadership.
• A desirable and genuine interest in mental health and/or addressing racial disparities in the mental health field.

Populo Living are partnering exclusively with Robertson Bell in their search for a permanent Head of Finance – Treasury and Financial Planning. Populo Living is a development and housing company wholly owned by a single shareholder, Newham Council. Populo Living enable Newham to keep control of Council land and build high quality, low carbon homes and neighbourhoods whilst retaining the developer profit for Newham Council, in the form of new affordable homes and long-term investment income.

The role of Head of Finance – Treasury and Financial Planning will lead, manage and co-ordinate the provision of the Groups Financial Planning, Treasury Management Services and Management Accounting functions as well as assist the Finance Director to lead and manage the Finance team.

The role:

• Lead, manage and motivate a team of four with two direct reports.
• Lead on all treasury related matters for the group such as arranging new funding, loan compliance, cashflow and banking.
• Lead on the organisation’s annual financial plan, including extensive sensitivity analysis of key performance indicators.
• Lead on the review of management accounts and production of board papers.
• Attend relevant committees and board meetings as required.
• Build strong collaborative relationships with all key stakeholders.
• Deputise for the Director of Finance and Resources as required.
• Support the Financial Controller to deliver year end accounts.

• Oversee cashflow forecasting, managing all cash and loan balances.

Essential criteria:

• Fully qualified Accountant.
• Previous experience working in either social housing, a commercial house builder or residential lettings.
• Experience developing and delivering on treasury strategy.
• Technical knowledge around long term planning AND management accounting forecasting.
• Strong people management skills as well as being resilient and have an appetite for change.

This position requires someone able to commit to working three days per week from Populo’s head office in Stratford. Benefits include 30 days of annual leave and an employee pension contribution scheme of 10%.
