Who are Women’s Aid?   

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of over 170 organisations which provide just under 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. For almost 50 years we have campaigned on behalf of our members and survivors to shape policy and practice, and to raise awareness of domestic abuse.    

Purpose of the Management Accountant role:   

As Management Accountant, the successful candidate will play an integral role in sure the accurate reporting of all financial information with systems and processes operating effectively. Responsible for the preparation of management accounts and other reports, the Management Accountant will oversee general accounting procedures and practices, combining financial, analytical and management skills to aid our managers with decision-making and promoting long-term financial success in order to meet our organisational goals.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Management Accountant: 

• Prepare timely and accurate financial management information including regular management accounts and forecasts to be provided to the Chief Executive, Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Senior Leadership Team (SLT). 

• Support the Head of Finance in the preparation of budgets and forecasts. 

• Foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, members of the SLT and team managers in order to aid in their understanding of budgets and financial statements, and to support them with their day-to-day budget management and finance needs. 

• Develop and oversee financial systems and procedures, identifying opportunities to improve these. 

What we are looking for in our Management Accountant: 

• Fully qualified accountant: ACCA, CIMA, ACA (or equivalent). 

• Strong technical accounting, financial management and reporting experience. 

• Ability to analyse complex information, problem solve and communicate findings effectively. 

• Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with all levels of an organisation. 

• Strong knowledge of SORP and Charity Commission protocols, GDPR and data protection regulations, and tax planning and compliance, inclusive of Gift Aid, Legacies, HMRC employee taxes, VAT and pension regulations. 

• Proven experience as a Management Accountant within a finance department. 

• High level of numeracy and accuracy. 

• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. 

• Good communication skills, both written and verbal. 

• Computer literacy with good knowledge of Microsoft 365, particularly Excel. 

• Excellent attention to detail. 

• Relevant continuing professional development (desirable). 

• Understanding of Fundraising Regulator guidelines, VAT partial exemption returns, accounting and tax issues relating to charities, and of domestic abuse and its impact (desirable). 

• Previous experience of working in a charity environment and supervising a team (desirable).

About Young Sounds UK

Young Sounds exists because musical talent is everywhere but opportunity isn’t: family finances and other obstacles too often get in the way. We’re here to change this in two key ways:

• We support young musicians from low-income families with funding and other help;

• We support music education through training, advocacy and research.

We became an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation in April 2023 and also joined an expanded cohort of National Youth Music Organisations (NYMOs). We currently support around 900 individual young people across the UK every year and demand for our support is increasing. The role

The Data Officer will fulfil an important cross-organisational role, working closely with the team to collate and analyse the data collected through all our programmes. Young Sounds is a reflective organisation. We’ve always invested time and effort in seeking out, understanding and demonstrating the difference our programmes are making. We believe in learning from experience. This is what we mean by evaluation.

Since 2023 we have committed to evaluating all three of our main programmes, each of which tackles a key barrier to young people’s musical progression. Each quarter we review our progress against both our Arts Council England Activity Plan (where measures of success are agreed annually) and the actions we’ve set for each year against each of Arts Council England’s four Investment Principles. We believe that data plays an integral part in telling the story of our work, and we regularly draw upon the information collated through evaluation to update our wider funding base (e.g. Trusts and Foundations) on the work we are doing. The Data Officer will work with the External Evaluator to enable us to report effectively and accurately on our progress to all our funders.

THIS IS A FREELANCE POSITION, 2 - 3 DAYS A MONTH

This is an exciting opportunity for a an experienced finance professional with charity accounting level knowledge to support the SAT-7 UK Finance Department, ensuring that our financial processes are robust, supporting our month end sign off process and the annual financial audit process. The role would be a regular 2 - 3 days per month with additional days required during December, January and February to support the audit process.  Those applying should be based in the UK.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for the review and sign off of all financial transaction processes, ensuring controls and risk management procedures are in place and are adhered to by the Finance Officer.
• Ensure accounts are prepared on a full accruals basis and fixed assets are depreciated.
• Regularly review the charities fixed asset register.
• Responsible for the review and sign-off of monthly financial management reports, ensuring they are accurate and timely. Attending the monthly Accounts Review meetings with the Executive team.
• Ensuring the smooth running of the annual audit process and preparation of the annual statutory accounts. Assist the Finance Officer to respond to queries and deliver reports and supporting documents required by the Auditors.
• Prepare the Annual Return for the Charity Commission.
• Assist the Operations Director in the production of reports on year-to-date management accounts at Finance and General Purposes Committee (FGP) meetings and at meetings of the Board of Trustees.
• Provide proactive guidance to improve our financial management, risk response and respond to changing financial conditions.

Prospectus is delighted to be partnering with the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) on their search for an Accounting Officer to be responsible for the financial and budgeting operations of the CTO.

This role is remote, open to nationals of the 33 CTO member states, and is offered on part-time basis (2 days a week) in the first instance with the possibility of becoming full-time after the initial 6 months of the contract.

The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation is the oldest and largest Commonwealth membership organisation in the field of information and communication technologies. Today, the CTO plays an integral role in providing 21st-century thinking, knowledge, understanding and leadership to its members, helping them to shape their digital futures. They are fully involved in the development and use of digital ICT for social and economic development and are at the forefront of the ICT revolution to deliver significant benefits to its members.

Reporting to the Finance and Pensions Manager, this plays a pivotal role in developing and continuously revising the CTO's budgets, financial rules, and regulations. The post holder will control all areas of expenditure and on the revenue side, the Accounting Officer will ensure all receivables are accounted for, actualised, and appropriately posted. The Accounting Officer will ensure the accounting software package is optimised and will be expected to prudently manage the CTO's cash flow and investment activities. The incumbent will work closely with the IT Administrator to develop and/or revise the accounting system that will be used by the CTO.

We are looking for a detail-oriented accounting professional with significant experience in a similar capacity in an organisation with a comparable scope and complexity. You will have strong finance and accountancy experience, as well as solid analytical skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Specialised knowledge of Pension Fund Management would be desirable, but not essential.
