We seek an inspirational leader whose managerial experience may have been gained within the commercial, education and/or not-for-profit sectors where you will have gained:

• extensive accounting experience (fully qualified);
• experience of managing a team;
• an understanding of facilities, IT, health and safety, and HR.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE 

This new role will play a key part in ensuring strong financial management of the organisation’s financial resources. This position is key for both Helen Bamber Foundation and Asylum Aid and the postholder will work closely with all members of the finance team in delivering both the organisational and financial strategies.

The candidate will have confidence and experience in producing high quality and accurate management accounts and variance analysis, as well as proven FP&A experience in supporting a charity’s annual financial planning cycle. As the organisation moves into a new strategic cycle, the post holder will play a key role in supporting the development of financial systems and processes ensuring that the finance department evolves as required. 

As Senior Finance Manager, you will be reporting to the Director of Finance and Governance and will be directly line managing the Finance Manager. Supporting their development as they progress with their accounting qualifications will be a key requirement in this role, and you will have the opportunity to work with and mentor them through this.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Lead on the production of monthly management accounts for both entities (Helen Bamber Foundation & Asylum Aid) including variance analysis.

· Oversight of month end close process carried out by the Finance Manager ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

· Supporting the annual planning cycle including regular re-forecasts as well as the annual budget planning process.

· Provide reports and accurate project accounting for joint partnerships with other organisations.

· Support the development of devolved budgets and budget holder responsibilities across the organisation. Provide business partnering to future budget holders across the organisation.

· Lead on production of the annual financial statements in adherence with FRS102 and charity SORP. This includes review of the year-end adjustments and liaising with the communications team on production of the annual report.

· Play a leading role in the annual audit process, dealing with our external auditors and ensuring a smooth and efficient audit process.

· Support cash flow forecasting ensuring that latest risks and opportunities are considered.

· Support the fundraising team with bid applications ensuring that budgets are accurate and aligned to strategy.

· Responsibility for the updating and implementation of key financial control procedures and policies across the organisation.

· Continually look to improve financial processes both within the finance team and across the organisation. This role will play a key role in delivering the financial strategy including systems development.

· Provide payroll cover as required – payroll is outsourced to an external payroll bureau.

· Provide good quality line management to the Finance Manager as well as indirectly to 2 part time Finance Assistants. Be seen as a leader within the organisation.

· Provide development opportunities for the finance team and in particular, to the Finance Manager who is undertaking their accounting qualifications.

· Adherence to key financial deadlines throughout the financial year (VAT returns, month end, financial year-end etc).

With a turnover of around £4million per annum and diverse funding streams from local NHS and council authorities, the organisation of around 100 staff is now continuing its growth journey.

The charity provides accommodation and services across Birmingham and London; however, the charity’s office is in central Birmingham. The role is permanent, part-time (4 days per week) with a salary of £66,250 - £68,750 per annum FTE (£53,000 - £55,000 per annum pro-rata) and is hybrid in nature with 2 days per week expected onsite in the Birmingham office. FTE is based on a 37.5 hour working week, so 4 days equates to a 30-hour working week – there is flexibility around how these hours can be spread. The Head of Finance and Corporate Services is a newly created role and will be responsible for the internal operations of the company. • Ensure relevant statutory, regulatory, and professional standards are wholly achieved in relation to policies, processes and procedures, particularly in respect of finance, governance, employment legislation and IT functions.

The post is part of the Senior Leadership (SLT) team, and you will manage a settled team of 2 including a fully qualified Finance Manager and an HR Manager. Much of the IT is outsourced.

The role would be best suited for a fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CIPFA) with prior experience in a similar senior level finance role within the charity sector. You will be expected to demonstrate strategic ability around financial planning and contract monitoring and be able to provide a top-level overview of how the organisation structures its corporate services functions moving forwards. A strong knowledge of charity finance – contracts and restricted funds is required, and experience in a similarly broad role covering other areas of corporate services such as HR and IT would be a big advantage.

Group Finance Director

This exciting international charity are seeking a qualified accountant with charity experience to join as their Group Finance Director.

Position: Group Finance Director

Location: UK-based Remote – will require international travel

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full-time

Salary: up to £80,000 depending on experience

About the Role

This is an exciting time to join this international charity, as we expand operations and implement best financial practices. The role presents an opportunity to lead, mentor, and drive financial excellence in a dynamic international setting. As Group Finance Director, you will be a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), ensuring financial strategy, governance, and compliance align with the organisation’s mission.

The role requires strong leadership, financial expertise, and the ability to manage a dispersed finance team while navigating the complexities of both charity and commercial financial management across different jurisdictions. International travel will be required to work with in-country teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the organisation’s financial strategy and vision, contributing to strategic decision-making at the senior level.
• Oversee financial reporting and compliance, ensuring adherence to UK Charities SORP FRS 102 and international financial regulations.
• Develop and implement financial systems, controls, and processes across multiple global entities.
• Manage annual budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements and programme budgets.
• Prepare group consolidated reports, including balance sheets, donor spend tracking, and statutory accounts.
• Lead the audit process and ensure strong financial governance across the organisation.
• Work closely with country finance teams in a matrix structure, to build capacity and ensure best practices.
• Identify financial risks and implement strategies for risk management.
• Support grant and funding management, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.

About You

We are looking for a strategic, hands-on leader who can balance big-picture financial planning with the operational needs of a growing international charity. You should have excellent financial acumen, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage finances in a complex, multi-currency, multi-entity environment.

Key Skills & Experience:

• Qualified accountant (CCAB, CIMA, ACCA, or ACA) with extensive post-qualification experience.
• Proven finance leadership experience in a complex international organisation, ideally in the INGO sector.
• Experience managing multi-entity, multi-currency financial operations.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, including UK Charity SORP FRS 102.
• Experience with donor reporting, grant management, and compliance.
• Demonstrated success in leading and developing dispersed international finance teams.
• Experience with financial systems implementation and process improvement.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

Desirable:

• Experience working in one of the organisation’s key regions (Afghanistan, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, the Levant).
• Experience leading finance teams remotely.
