A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Regional Casework Manager to join the Greater London Region at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. 

You will be part of the regional office team, managing two Regional Casework Co-ordinators, which will provide specialist administrative and single point of contact support to SSAFA branch-based volunteers, to ensure a consistent, timely and quality service is provided to SSAFA beneficiaries.  The role will require you to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with volunteers, including branch-based casework managers.  At times, the role will require support to the Regional Casework Co-ordinators with call handling, signposting, and the triage of initial enquiries from clients. 

To help you establish yourself in this post you will receive excellent training and induction to SSAFA.  You will influence the processes and procedures within the regional office as it develops, working in a close team and line managed by the Regional Operations Manager. 

The post is home-based, but you will have to travel occasionally into London. 

About the team 

The regional office is a “virtual” office and supports three SSAFA branches in the Greater London region, as the volunteers deliver casework for SSAFA beneficiaries.  The successful candidate will work as part of a support team which includes two Regional Casework Co-ordinators and a Regional Operations Manager.  All team members are home based.

About you 

To be successful in this role you will have a good standard of education, experience of managing employees, together with managing and reporting on service delivery.  You will have a track record of building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, together with achieving results through negotiation and influence.  Previous experience of working with volunteers would be an asset.  You will have used Microsoft Office 365 to a high standard and be capable of quickly learning a computerised case management system and be proficient with numbers.  The successful candidate will have experience of planning and managing their own workload, with minimal supervision. 

It would be advantageous to have an understanding of the way of life for today’s Armed Forces, veterans and their families. As a Youth & Mentor Facilitator, you will play a crucial role in creating safe and engaging environments for young people to learn, grow, and thrive. Your responsibilities include leading BelEve workshops, activities, and discussions that promote skill development, personal growth, and positive social interaction among young people within our community.

Reporting to the Programme Officer you will serve as a mentor and role model, offering guidance, support, and encouragement to help young people navigate challenges and reach their full potential. Additionally, you will collaborate with colleagues, community partners, and stakeholders to design and implement effective programmes that address the unique needs and interests of the youth demographic. Your responsibilities will include:

1. Facilitate BelEve Programmes

Lead or assist in leading various programmes, workshops, or activities designed for the young people with our community. These could include educational sessions, recreational activities, skill-building workshops, or support groups.

2. Engaging Youth Participants

Create a welcoming and inclusive environment where young people feel comfortable expressing themselves and participating actively. Encourage engagement, participation, and collaboration among youth participants.

Offer guidance and support to youth participants, both individually and in groups. Listen to their concerns, offer advice, and provide resources or referrals as needed. Keen advocate in mentoring youth participants. Build positive relationships with youth participants, providing guidance, support, and advocacy.

5. Developing BelEve Programme Content

Collaborate with other staff members to develop programme content and curriculum that aligns with the needs and interests of the youth demographic.

Adapt materials and activities to suit different age groups and learning styles.

6. Implementing BelEve Safeguarding Policy

Enforce and implement Safeguarding across all BelEve programmes to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. Address any behavioural issues or conflicts that arise in a fair and respectful manner.

7. Building Relationships

Establish positive relationships with the young people within our community, their families, and the wider community. Foster trust and rapport to create a supportive network for young people.

8. Report & Evaluation of BelEve Programmes

Assess the impact and effectiveness of our programmes through participant feedback, observation, and evaluation metrics. Use this information to make improvements and adjustments as necessary.

9. Collaborating with Stakeholders

Work closely with other youth workers, volunteers, partner organisations, schools, and community leaders to coordinate activities and resources for youth development.

10. Maintaining Records

Maintain clear & concise session notes, keep accurate records of programme attendance, participant demographics, and any incidents or concerns that arise. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and reporting requirements.

11. Professional Development

Stay informed about best practices, trends, and developments in youth work and related fields. Seek out opportunities for professional development and training to enhance skills and knowledge.

12. Advocacy

Support and advocate for the needs and rights of young people within BelEve and the broader community. Raise awareness about issues affecting youth and work towards positive change.

13. Administrative Tasks

Perform administrative duties such as impact studies, end of programme reports as needed to support the smooth operation of our programmes.

Our highly committed Regional Casework Coordinators are SSAFA’s front line of support for members of the armed forces community in need. They are the first point of contact for all beneficiaries into the North East England & Yorkshire Regional Office, assessing needs and allocating the case to one of our volunteer caseworkers.

You will sometimes handle complex problems from individuals who may be distressed, identifying the presenting and potential underlying needs to determine the best way to support the beneficiary. You will have ownership of cases from beginning to end, coordinating the casework process in a timely manner and ensure that the beneficiary journey is at the centre of the Service. You will have the opportunity to shape processes and procedures within the office which will lead to improvements in the service offered to clients.

To help you establish yourself in this new post you will receive excellent training and induction to SSAFA.

Whilst the post is homebased, to be eligible for this role you are required to live in the North East England or Yorkshire region, which includes North, South, East and West Yorkshire, Teesside, County Durham, Tyne & Wear and Northumberland. There will be occasional travel around these areas and you may be required to travel at short notice for face to face meetings.

The post is part time, three days per week, working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays.

About the team

The team works remotely and prides itself in maintaining a close working bond which ensures the smooth operation of the office. You will work closely with volunteers from the eight SSAFA branches in these regions, supporting them to administer casework for SSAFA beneficiaries. The wider support team includes a Casework Manager and a Regional Operations Manager.

About you

To carry out this role successfully you will have a track record of providing welfare advice in key areas such as, housing benefits, debt, disability, mobility or immigration issues. You will have knowledge of safeguarding and GDPR, along with experience in dealing with sensitive information and people in vulnerable situations. You will be able to provide excellent customer service by telephone, e-mail and face to face. You will have used Microsoft Office 365 to a high standard. It is important that you have experience of planning and managing your own workload, with minimal supervision.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Wellbeing Advisor Assistant with experience of working within a children and young people, to work within a multi-disciplinary wellbeing advice services team to increase and improve emotional and mental health provision within local communities for 11–24-year-olds in the West London CCG area.

The Senior Wellbeing Adviser will be a part of our Youth Services team and will work to deliver mental health services for young people and the adults who support them. The Senior Wellbeing Adviser will co-ordinate and deliver a diverse portfolio of wellbeing services including the provision of 1:1 practical wellbeing advice and support to young people (mainly aged 16-25), facilitation of peer support groups, delivery of workshops and trainings and co-ordinate awareness-raising campaigns on occasion.

This post will enable the post-holder to develop a wide range of project coordination and evaluation skills. The position will suit an individual who is self-motivated, an excellent communicator and data competent, with an interest in quality improvement, line management, an understanding of child development and mental health, as well as a passion to support services for children, young people and their families.

The post holder will also work alongside colleagues and partners in the Local Authority, CAMHS, educational settings where interventions are being delivered and other relevant mental health providers.

akt is the UK’s national LGBTQ Youth Homelessness charity. We provide safe homes, mentoring, and support to ensure that no young person needs to choose between a safe home and being who they are. 24% of young people facing homelessness in the UK identify as LGBT (National Scoping of LGBT Youth Homelessness, akt, 2015) and 78% of LGBTQ+ young people cited an absence of family support (The LGBTQ+ Youth Homelessness Report, akt, 2021). Job Summary

There are two roles available on temporary four month contracts:

• one London-based (three hours per fortnight, Tuesday 5.30pm - 8.30pm); and
• one Manchester-based (three hours per month, Wednesday 5.30pm - 8.30pm).

There is a high percentage of Queer, Trans and Intersex People of Colour (QTIPOC) service users at akt who this role will directly support. Therefore, this role will require someone who has in-depth knowledge of the lived experiences of QTIPOC young people.

The role will involve supporting the provision of youth engagement activities to a diverse range of QTIPOC young people aged 16-25 who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or living in a hostile environment. Our focus is in maintaining our ability to provide the highest service possible, giving our young people the opportunities to access peer support, community engagement and life skills. Overall, we aim to support LGBTQ+ young people into safe accommodation and work or education and prevent them from becoming homeless again in the future.

FLEX is looking for someone with a passion for improving working conditions in service sectors, such as cleaning. In this role, you will support the development of more sustainable corporate responses through the development of a worker-informed human rights due diligence programme for businesses that contract cleaning services. Stepping Stones exists to improve the lives of adults with learning disabilities. We are seeking an enthusiastic and agile manager who will be at the heart of the organisation and will lead a small team of qualified tutors and volunteers in continuing to provide high quality experiences for the people who attend. Stepping Stones is a community that loves to socialise and learn new skills together. Our current programme includes art, dance, drama and music, together with digital skills and cooking.

This role is responsible for strategic development with the guidance of the Board of Trustees, income generation, and the management of all aspects of service delivery. It is our intention to appoint a new post of Activity Co-ordinator to support the Charity Manager as budgets allow. You will play an active part in designing this role so that it enhances our delivery and increases capacity within the organisation.

Our experience during the pandemic and consequently, has shown us that being together in real life is an essential element of our offer to the people who attend Stepping Stones and so this post requires a physical presence preferably 3 days per week during the period when classes are running (30 weeks per year).  We are open in our approach to recruitment and are keen to support the right candidate to flourish. This means that we are happy to consider flexible working hours and an annualised hours contract if this supports your work life balance.

ABOUT YOU
You will build good working relationships with all stakeholders including the people who attend our classes, their network of support (including support workers, carers and family members), funders, partners and the local community. Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, you will be comfortable working with autonomy. You will be a strong team leader, proactive problem solver, and confident making decisions for the good of the organisation. Whilst the role demands strategic thinking and planning, it also requires you to be visible and accessible. You will sometimes contribute to activities when time allows, for example, in pilot phases of new classes

ABOUT THE CHARITY
Stepping Stones is a thriving, longstanding and highly valued community organisation. We have delivered activities for over 30 years and our weekly classes are an important part of the lives of people who attend.

Our main delivery is a timetable of up to 14 weekly classes from our base in a multipurpose community centre. We also have activities off site including gardening at a local allotment and music and art classes at a day centre and residential home. Each week over 100 people benefit from our activities.

Following their sons’ diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Emily Reuben and Alex Johnson founded Duchenne UK in 2012. We are an ambitious, dynamic and impactful charity. 

DMD is a devastating progressive condition diagnosed in early childhood which causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken. There are currently only very limited treatment options for DMD, so Emily and Alex set up Duchenne UK to change this. 

Since 2012, we have raised more than £27 million to end the devastating impact of DMD.  We fund ground-breaking scientific research to find effective treatments. We’ve developed the infrastructure of DMD clinical trial delivery in the UK. We engage industry and regulators to accelerate access to treatments. And we’re here to support every family affected and ensure that they receive the best possible care. We aim not only to improve quality of live but stop the disease in its tracks. We’re doing it faster too, because this generation of patients can’t wait.

Alex and Emily were awarded OBEs in The King’s Birthday Honours List in 2023 in recognition of their services to charity and to people living with DMD. They, and the dedicated and effective team they have built at Duchenne UK, are now at the forefront of this work in the UK.

We have an opportunity to join our team and build on these achievements. We are recruiting for a full-time Fundraising Manager, who will be a key part of our team and play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission.

The successful candidate will be an experienced fundraiser with strong interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to build relationships with a wide variety of individuals. Excellent organisational skills are a must along with being ambitious, driven and passionate about representing Duchenne UK and supporting our mission.

The Fundraising Manager will report to the Director of Fundraising and line manage the Fundraising Assistant. They will work closely the rest of the organisation, including the Communications, Finance and Research Teams as well as having the opportunity to work alongside the CEO and Managing Director.

Job Description

This role plays a key part in advancing the fundraising of Duchenne UK to enable more investment into research, advancing treatments and supporting the DMD community.  A core part of this will be building relationships with key supporters, including our incredible Family and Friends Funds, corporate supporters and community of fundraisers.

You will be central to the development and delivery of key events and campaigns throughout the year to achieve ambitious fundraising targets. You will have budget management responsibilities and provide insight into activities to drive improvements and further success in future years.

The role will contribute to overall fundraising growth; ensuring the guiding engagement and fundraising principles are delivered, and that all fundraising delivers an exceptional and remarkable donor experience to which Duchenne UK prides itself.

Fundraising and business development

• Community
  • Key relationship manager for Duchenne UK Family and Friends Funds, engaging them through fundraising, supporting third party events and providing regular project and charity updates
  • Develop and implement the Family Fund and Community Fundraising stewardship strategy
• Events, Challenge and Campaigns
  • Manage and grow the challenge events portfolio
  • Project manage community events and Duchenne UK campaigns
  • Oversee the whole event process from developing a business case and objectives, to budget, project management and event follow up with relevant agencies and suppliers to deliver events within budget
  • Play a vital role in the delivery of Duchenne UK’s signature event, the Duchenne Dash. Our 24hr London to Paris bike ride raising c.£800k annually.
• Corporate
  • Manage Corporate partnerships, with support from the Fundraising Director
• Stewardship and income development
  • Develop and deepen existing donor relationships, ensuring that the organisation maintains effective communications and good relations with our donors at every level and that they are updated on our work and impact
  • Oversee management of regular giving, including working with the Communications team to promote this type of giving. Provide stewardship to Regular Givers, with support from the Fundraising Assistant.
  • Lead the identification and development of new income sources with the support of the Fundraising team to increase donations, improve the profile of Duchenne UK and enhance our reputation within the donor community; including corporate partnerships, fundraising campaigns, third party activity, challenge events, regular giving and legacy
  • Represent the organisation at meetings with donors and external events
• Monitoring and evaluation
  • Support the development and implementation of the new Sales Force database (launching July 2024)
  • Monthly monitoring and evaluation of fundraising activity
  • Review fundraising and engagement for each Duchenne UK event and campaign with the support of the Fundraising Team.
  • Ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is maintained.
