Role Overview:
As a Trustee with a focus on the Treasurer role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the
financial stability and integrity of DiMHN. You will work closely with the Board of Trustees
and the Chief Executive to oversee the financial management of the charity, providing
strategic guidance and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Financial Oversight:
  • Maintain oversight of the charity’s financial affairs to ensure its financial viability.
  • Ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.
  • Monitor the financial administration of the charity and report to the Board of
  • Trustees at regular intervals.
  • Develop a cash reserves policy in compliance with Charities Commission requirements to maintain the financial stability and sustainability of DiMHN.
  • Budgeting and Reporting:
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and monitor financial performance against it.
  • Present financial reports to the Board, including monthly management accounts, forecasts, and cash flow statements.
  • Prepare the annual accounts and ensure they are submitted to the relevant authorities in a timely manner.
• Compliance and Governance:
  • Ensure DiMHN complies with financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee the charity’s financial risk management process.
  • Liaise with external auditors and ensure any recommendations are implemented.
• Strategic Planning:
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the charity’s strategic plan.
  • Provide financial input into the charity’s fundraising strategy and business plans.
• Trustee Responsibilities:
  • Act in the best interest of DiMHN, maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
  • Attend and actively participate in Board meetings and sub-committees as required.
  • Ensure that DiMHN pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document.

Person Specification:

• Experience and Skills:
  • Proven experience as a Treasurer or in a similar financial role within a small charity.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Experience of charity accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to analyse financial information and present it in a clear, understandable format.

Time Commitment:

• Most board meetings take place online, using Teams.
• We aim to have three in-person meetings - one full day strategy meeting, and two board meetings.
• You would be expected to attend our annual conference

Term:

• Trustees are appointed for a term of 3 years, with the possibility of renewal.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Ensuring the organisation is focused on its charitable objects.  

• Ensuring the organisation is financially viable, balancing income and expenditure and considering the long-term resourcing needs of the Charity alongside requirements to support shorter term projects.  

• Supporting the staff team of the Charity through scrutiny and guidance of senior management, principally through the appraisal and direction of the Chief Executive Officer but also through putting in place appropriate training and  development measures for staff.  

• Making sure good governance principles are followed and that the Charity’s constitution and rules are followed and, where needed, reviewed and enhanced.  

• Ensuring the organisation meets all legal obligations and that policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and scrutinised to keep up to date with legislation including, but not exclusive to, charity law and HR regulation.  

• A specific consideration of Safeguarding principles and practice.  

• Making themselves accountable and transparent to the beneficiaries, a role led by the Officer Trustees but that all members of the board should be prepared to respond to.  

• Ensuring that board members, as a group and individually, are working in the best interests of the charity as a whole.

Statutory Duties

Relationship with the Chief Executive and the Wider Executive Team

1. Foster an open and transparent working relationship with the Executive Team – CEO,Head of Operations and Head of Finance. Embed clear lines of communication to ensure the Chair and Board work together.

2. Ensure you develop and maintain an open and supportive relationship within which trustee can speak openly about concerns, worries and challenges.

3. Liaise with the Chief Executive to maintain an overview of the Charity’s affairs

4. Support the Chair conduct an annual appraisal and remuneration review for the Chief Executive in consultation with all other Trustees.

As well as the various statutory duties, any trustee should make full use of any specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the board make good decisions.

Action Homeless are looking for new people to join our existing Board of Trustees. At an exciting time of development and as we embark on a new 5 year strategy, we are looking for Board members who can bring their knowledge, skills and expertise to support the charity in its mission to break the cycle of homelessness and prevent people from having to sleep rough.

You will become part of a dynamic and committed team providing strategic oversight to improve the lives of people affected by homelessness in Leicestershire.

Action Homeless is a well-established charity and has been part of the Leicester community for over 50 years. Glebe House is a well respected Leicestershire charity that provides a range of services to adults and children with learning disabilities. We are looking for new Trustees to join the Board to contribute to our success for many years to come.
The Board is responsible for the overall governance, financial scrutiny & the strategic direction of Glebe House, whilst developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document and legal & regulatory guidelines.
Ideally Trustees have an interest in supporting our service users to achieve their goals in life, by ensuring that the support given by our staff is of high quality and financially sustainable.

Trustees are asked to attend 6 meetings a year, some online some in person and to visit our sites occasionally to ensure that our services are being delivered to the standard required.

Tanzania Development Trust (TDT) works in some of the poorest parts of Tanzania, helping people to lift themselves out of poverty by funding small projects that meet their essential needs.  

It sponsors 40-50 small rural development projects p.a. in Tanzania, mainly in the areas of clean water, girls' education and small income generating activities. It also has 3-4 larger, longer-term projects. Its primary function is fundraising, although it provides general project management and business advice where appropriate. 

Around half of its income comes from individual donors, and half from Trusts & Foundations. It helps villagers in Tanzania who lack the capacity and language skills to present their projects to international donors, conducting project appraisals and monitoring project outcomes on their behalf. The projects are implemented by the villagers themselves, or by small local contractors.

TDT is run entirely by volunteers (17 regular volunteers in the UK and 16 local representatives in Tanzania). It has no paid staff, premises or overheads, so 100% of all money raised goes directly to projects in Tanzania.

We are looking for additional Trustees who can help us to grow by identifying potential donors, increasing awareness of our activities, and strengthening our project selection and monitoring procedures.

We would like at least one of the new Trustees to help us with fund-raising by piloting more innovative and creative approaches. Experience of living or working in Tanzania is not essential, but to improve the Board’s racial diversity we would like at least one of the new Trustees to be of Tanzanian origin or have strong connections with East Africa.

The Trustees are all unpaid. Although their main job is the overall direction of the business, they can become involved in day-to-day operations if they so wish. We all work remotely, which helps us to engage with our local representatives in Tanzania in everything we do.

The work we do is immensely rewarding. You would be joining a close-knit organisation that is growing and adapting to meet the needs of a changing world, where helping poor people to help themselves is of paramount importance. 

Oxfordshire Breastfeeding Support (OBS) is a small charity (a charitable incorporated organisation or CIO) providing free direct breastfeeding support to the families of Oxfordshire - via a mixture of virtual one to one appointments, in-person sessions, Zoom groups, a private Facebook group, antenatal workshops and work targeted at groups that are under-represented. Although founded as an independent charity in 2018, OBS’s work is a continuation of 12 years of breastfeeding support under the Baby Café umbrella. OBS is well known and respected in the community, with strong and valuable relationships with other service providers in the NHS, Local Authority and voluntary sectors. OBS is committed to being an actively anti-racist organisation, with a focus on social justice, equality, diversity and inclusion. OBS is seeking to recruit a trustee to responsible for strategy and impact for a period of 2-3 years. In addition to the responsibilities of a general trustee, the strategy and impact trustee will :

• Lead the development and review of the charity's strategic plan, collaborating with fellow trustees and senior management to set ambitious goals and objectives.

• Monitor the implementation of the strategic plan, regularly assessing progress, and providing guidance to optimize impact.

Carers UK is the national membership charity for the millions of people in the UK who are unpaid carers. As an organisation we provide expert advice and information for carers, campaign for greater recognition and support for carers, and use our experience and expertise to help other organisations do more for carers. The Role of Trustee

The Trustee board is the principle governing body of CPRE London and is collectively responsible for the leadership and direction of the charity.

As a Trustee your role includes:

• Developing and overseeing implementation of our strategic plan to help us to deliver our vision.
• Offering independence, external perspective, skills and challenge
• Mentoring and supporting the staff and volunteers.

Although keen to appoint dedicated Trustees offering a breadth of skills who share our aims, the Trustee board have identified some areas where specific knowledge and experience would be welcomed to complement the existing team:

A.Knowledge of the planning system / planning law / planning organisation

B.Technical knowledge of ecology / horticulture / forestry 

C.Communications, including social media

D.Experience with an environmental organisation or charity.

To best represent London’s diverse community on our Boards of Trustees and ensure all residents benefit from our green space advocacy, we welcome applicants from all backgrounds. 

Commitment:

The Trustee board meets four times a year at our London office in Farringdon with meetings starting at 18.00 and generally finishing by 20.00. There may be ad hoc commitments in between the board meetings. In the autumn, the Trustees and staff attend a one-day off-site strategy meeting in the Greater London area. Trustees are also encouraged to attend the AGM.

All Trustees are appointed for a three term of office from election at the annual AGM and are eligible for re-election for a further one-year term with a maximum of six years’ service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Strategic 

·  To assist and advise in the formation of the KWC’s strategy with particular regard to ensuring KWC has the clinical expertise to deliver the strategy. 

2. Clinical 

·To offer advice and support to the Clinical Manager in the development of KWC’s clinical services.

·To support the Clinical Manager in the development of innovative and developmental concepts for volunteers, staff and service users where appropriate.

· To assist the Clinical Manager, staff, and Board members in networking within the clinical sector.

· Where needed to support the Clinical Manager in the recruitment of Supervisors.

· To make recommendations to the Board of appropriate clinical changes to KWC’s Policies and Procedures and controls.

· To ensure the Board receives appropriate information on the activities that affect the clinical running of KWC. 

3. Governance

· To ensure the Board is aware of its clinical duties and responsibilities and the need to comply with legislation and BACP code of ethics. 

· To ensure all clinical policies, procedures and any appointment of external clinical advisors are reviewed on a regular basis.

· To monitor and report to the Board and offer solutions to any clinical concerns.

5. Key Qualities/Experience 

· Experience in a Senior Clinical role; ideally currently working in counselling, psychotherapy and or supervising counsellors and psychotherapists.

· Experience in developing Clinical Services and of working within the community.

· Good communication/interpersonal and decision- making skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively and constructively as a member of the Board.

· Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role of Trustee.

· An understanding and acceptance of legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship.

· Good independent judgment, strategic perspective, and vision.

City of Chelmsford Mencap is a small independent charity providing support and structured classes for adults with a learning disability across mid-Essex. We have recently converted the charity's structure and are now embarking on an exciting period of strategic growth. We are seeking energetic and passionate new trustees who can contribute to our plans and help us deliver the next phase of our operating model.
