As a member of the UK Policy and Advocacy team, this role will be responsible for leading our policy work focusing on early childhood education, with a particular focus on the home learning environment and developing primary research engaging with very young children. Working closely with colleagues across the Advocacy and Programmes Departments, you will be expected to develop and deliver an effective influencing strategy, based on robust evidence and persuasive policy asks that help protect and promote the physical and mental health and wellbeing of babies and young children living in the UK. You’ll be joining at an exciting time for our team as we adapt our Early Moments Matter Campaign to the context of influencing and engaging with a new Government.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to have an in-depth understanding of policy-making processes and how to develop effective influencing strategies, excellent research and writing skills and a good understanding of the policy context of early childhood health and/or other UK child wellbeing topic area.

We are excited to be recruiting a Marketing and Communications Officer to join our External Affairs team. The team plays an important role in bringing the charity’s work with schools, researchers, universities and parents to life through engaging copy, eye-catching design and insight-led lead generation marketing.
Tasks will include social media content planning and creation, website content creation and editing, newsletter creation for a variety of audiences, curation of the charity’s Friends of The Brilliant Club network which provides opportunities for people interested in the charity to come together, share ideas and support our mission, and preparation of the charity’s journal of student work, The Scholar.

About this job
Are you an experienced and enthusiastic Safeguarding professional, with a strong interest in protecting adults at risk and children from harm, within the wider Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Community?
Based within our Helpline Services team, you’ll have responsibility for:
- Responding to concerns reported by staff and volunteers
- Leading the coordination of responding to safeguarding concerns
- Dealing with safeguarding issues (as they arise) and liaising with statutory services as needed
- Giving advice and support to colleagues and our volunteers in relation to safeguarding and disclosure checking
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the society
- Liaising with external safeguarding agencies
- Embedding organisational safeguarding policies, procedures and practices across the society
You’ll have experience of working in a safeguarding customer-facing environment within the Charity or Public Service sectors. You’ll have proficient administrative and IT skills with the ability to work accurately, consistently and independently. You’ll ideally have had experience in supporting vulnerable people in person, over the phone and or online.
An understanding of safeguarding within the Charity and Public Service sectors is essential.

About the Investment Team
The Investment Team is responsible for selecting charity partners, managing our charity investments and supporting our charity partners to improve and scale their impact.
The Investment Team also leads the Impetus Leadership Academy, a leadership development programme to support talent from ethnic minority backgrounds in the UK youth sector to progress into senior leadership roles.
The team is made up of 18 people, including former teachers, charity chief executives, charity impact leads, management consultants, social investment portfolio managers and impact consultants.
The team is led by a Portfolio Director who sits on the Senior Management Team. The Portfolio Director has 5 direct reports: a Deputy Portfolio Director, three Sector Leads (who lead our work in School engagement, School attainment and Employment Sectors) and an Impact Lead. Sector Leads line manage 6 Investment Directors. Investment Directors line manage Investment Managers (currently 5). Investment Directors and Investment Managers tend to primarily focus on a sector but might have mixed portfolios, depending on need, experience and interest.
The Investment Team has a good track record of role progression. All four Leads and a number of our Investment Directors were promoted from within the team.

Job description – Investment Director
The Investment Director (ID) is a key member of the Investment Team, playing a leading role in identifying, assessing, and supporting portfolio partner charities and other non-profit organisations to deepen their impact and scale their outcomes. This role works closely with other Investment Directors and Investment Managers to deliver external facing support to portfolio partners as well as internal projects to support the development of the investment model and portfolio strategy.
Investment Directors use strategic thinking, analytical rigour, and senior relationship skills to support a portfolio of amazing organisations that, together, will help shift the life chances and outcomes of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in the UK.
Key responsibilities
Finding high potential charities and non-profit partners for our portfolio
- Identifying potential charitable organisations for investment.
- Leading in-depth due diligence process to assess and build partnership foundations with potential partners – covering leadership and governance, and their impact, scale, and partnership potential.
- Modelling from first contact of origination, our approach to engaged and trust-based investment management support.
- Developing and championing high quality investment propositions to our Investment Committee.
Managing partnerships with portfolio partners
- Managing relationships with partner Chairs and CEOs
- Agreeing Service Funding Agreements, including appropriate annual investment milestones to allow for a clear assessment of re-investment potential at end of phase
- Regularly monitoring and assessing partner progress / risks against milestones and making recommendations for progression or exit
- Escalating key risks on performance, leadership and safeguarding
- Conducting annual partnership review with Sector Leads and partner CEOs
- Working with Impetus Finance colleagues to ensure timely distribution of grant payments, in line with Service Funding Agreements.
Supporting portfolio partners
- Providing direct support to CEOs and senior colleagues on key strategic topics, using a mix of at least monthly one-to-one meetings and group facilitation to:

The Head of National Influencing is critical to our mission to make dementia the priority it needs to be. This is way more than a typical public affairs job. In fact, it’s not a typical public affairs job at all. We do things differently here. We don’t carp from the side-lines and moan about how bad everything is. Instead, we develop overwhelming, evidence and policy-based cases for change which we deploy based on our deep understanding of a complex, constantly adapting system across multiple nations.
Dementia is a whole system challenge so it demands a whole system approach. That means our Head of National Influencing needs to determine key decisionmakers capable of shaping national policy across England, Northern Ireland and Wales, and then engaging them directly with an overwhelming case for change. Understanding the system is paramount, as is deploying evidence and policy in the most impactful way. Essential to the success of the role – and the success of the whole team – is the need to plan and deliver a highly integrated influencing strategy alongside our Head of Local Systems Influencing. Integration and teamwork is everything in this role – with colleagues internally and with the system externally.
You’ll have the privilege of leading a big team spread across three nations, and be part of an even larger Evidence, Policy & Influencing function which is laser-focused on ending the devastation of dementia through changing policy. We take an evidence-based approach to all our work, we focus on impact rather than activity, and the Head of National Influencing is a key role model for how we go about our business. That includes the most important aspect of this role: leading our people. With joint responsibility for the whole team’s (not just your team’s!) culture and performance shared between you and our other department heads, the development of our talent is central to the impact we want to make.

The Communications Intern is a member of the Development and External Affairs team. Their key focus is enabling impactful content production and championing high communications standards. The comms intern will report to the Communications and Publicity Manager and will support the development of a consistent and effective brand story that engages and unites both our external and internal audiences.
Pay and conditions
- The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week). 9-month fixed term contract.
- The salary for the role will be £23,850 (starting salary will depend on skills and experience).
- You will be entitled to 25 days paid holiday (plus statutory holidays).

Specific responsibilities
An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:
- Create engaging digital content for website, social media, and e-newsletters, through written copy and graphics.
- Support the management of CSE’s website, including uploading and editing content.
- Plan, manage, and deliver 4-6 small (30-40 people) in person or larger online (100 people) events annually, including coordination of logistics, content development, and stakeholder engagement.
- Support with edits to designed materials including factsheets and leaflets using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Support internal communications including organising systems and producing our monthly internal e-newsletter by creating content that motivates employees and informs them of important issues.
- Support with digital channel optimisation including PPC, SEO, social media (paid and organic).
- Support the development of CSE’s social media presence through content creation, scheduling posts, monitoring engagement and reporting.
- Contribute to the operational success of CSE by assisting the team with administrative and organisational duties as necessary. Collaborate with all teams to ensure cohesive delivery of our brand story across the organisation and through all communications.
- Collaborate with teams to monitor brand health, analyse audience insights, and refine our communications strategy.

Overall purpose of post
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will have a key role to play in delivering the marketing and communications strategy of Low Carbon Hub. It is a busy role that works across multiple projects with multiple partners, and you will actively input into plans for project delivery. The post holder will write, edit, coordinate and publish content across various channels including websites, social media, press releases, print and online communications and marketing materials.
As part of a small team in a busy environment, we are looking for someone who can proactively get stuck in and be comfortable working flexibly to take on ad hoc tasks when they arise. You will get to be involved in all aspects of communications and work on a variety of interesting projects as part of a leading community energy organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing
- Support the development and delivery of marketing plans for new and existing products and services, including community energy share offers.
- Identify, investigate and recommend opportunities for reaching new audiences, such as potential investors.
- Co-ordinate the design and development of digital and offline marketing collateral to meet organisational objectives, and in consultation with project partners.
- Provide marketing support for events such as AGM, conferences, webinars.
- Represent Low Carbon Hub at events, such as community events, attend meetings, run stalls and give presentations.
Communications
- Lead on developing and uploading engaging content for the Low Carbon Hub website as well as programme websites, such as Action on Carbon and Energy in Schools and Energy Solutions Oxfordshire.
- Manage social media channels, including the creation of engaging content, using the appropriate tone and voice, and lead on responding to and starting conversations to build brand awareness.
- Produce, edit and distribute updates and key material for internal and external audiences such as newsletters, reports, and case studies.
- Provide communications support for Low Carbon Hub programmes such as the Energy Advice Programme and Helpdesk service.
- Work closely with the Community Engagement Manager to develop communications support for low carbon community groups.
- Stay up to date on relevant current affairs and communications trends, building these into our regular communication mix.
- Capture learning and contribute to monitoring and evaluation activities.
- Liaise with, and report to, project partners and funders on a timely basis.
Press
- Field inquiries from press, politicians and service users.
- Create press releases and statements as needed.

About the FCLP
upReach’s Future Charity Leaders Programme (FCLP) is a graduate programme combining delivery work (supporting our Associates) with exposure to a range of aspects of charity management.
As a Programme Coordinator on the FCLP you will be delivering personalised employment-focused support to a cohort of approximately 80 Associates, helping transform their lives by equipping them with the necessary skills to secure a top graduate job. During a typical week, you should expect to be working across a range of projects including 1:1 undergraduate coaching, group workshops, webinars (we refer to them as Video Forums), partnership management (both with university partners or employer partners) and more!
In addition to this, the programme offers the opportunity to develop skills in key areas of charity management by participating in 3 rounds of six-month rotations. After your initial 18 months and the completion of 3 six-month rotations, you will have the opportunity to undertake an apprenticeship to further develop your leadership skills.
Throughout the programme, you will receive dedicated internal training developing your leadership skills building your confidence in the role.
Through our partnership with The Circle Line, you will be part of a supportive peer group, offered regular personal development training workshops online and in-person on their '12 Tools for Life'. You will also be able to choose your own practitioner to support you with 1:1 sessions throughout the programme to help you unlock more of your unique potential.

The FCLP is a fast-paced but rewarding role. Programme Coordinators spend 80% of their time (4 days per week) working directly with associates to enhance their career knowledge and skills and 20% (1 day per week) on a charity management rotation (or an apprenticeship after 18-months). As a Data Selections Officer, you will work closely with various teams across the organisation, gathering data requirements and ensuring that selections align with campaign goals. You will manage the scheduling and delivery of complex targeted data segmentations and selections for campaign activities across direct mail, telephone, email, SMS, and social media channels. In this role, you will manage the administration of our equipment loan and support grant services, ensuring requests are handled efficiently and swiftly. You'll review and process grant applications in line with our guidance policy, ensuring all information is accurate and complete. You will identify requests that should be treated as exceptions and escalate as appropriate.
You'll also liaise with health and social care professionals, branches and groups, and people affected by MND, offering guidance on alternative funding options. By proactively seeking additional funding from branches and groups, you'll ensure our support grants continue to make a difference.
The role involves administrative tasks such as managing payments, processing invoices, and maintaining accurate records. You'll also be responsible for updating databases, sending important correspondence, and ensuring our care resources are well-stocked and available.
Occasionally, you'll help organise internal and external meetings and events, booking venues and handling any necessary equipment and logistics.

Location: Any SMF City (Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle). We are currently operating a hybrid of office and home working for staff across all cities.
Salary: £29,900 plus £2,200 London Weighting if applicable

Your role will be central to achieving our three-year strategy, which is focused on:

Based in our Advocacy and Campaigns team the Senior Policy Officer will be responsible for delivering our Social Mobility Employer Index and support the development of our wider policy positions and campaigns work.
Growing the influence and impact of the Index is a key strategic priority within ambition two, and this role will help achieve that by ensuring we continue to develop our knowledge and to influence and improve employer-led social mobility. You’ll be responsible for project managing and delivering core components of the Index including the marking, design and delivery of the survey, which we use to gather employer data and the feedback reports, which we share with entrants. You’ll ensure the documents evolve with best practice and in line with our work with young people. Working with others you’ll deliver the annual key findings report, ultimately helping improve employer led social mobility in the UK.
Alongside the Index you’ll play a key role in developing policy positions for our political influencing campaigns. You’ll support our internal knowledge hub, drawing insights from our Aspiring Professionals Programme, wider research and focus groups with our young people and share external developments to ensure we have robust, youth-led positions. You’ll analyse evidence and help carve out our unique point of view on how we can improve social mobility in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on the project management and delivery of the Index including development of policy positions and best practice, questionnaire design, employer feedback reports.
- Lead the annual review of the Index assessing the impact it’s had on driving employer behaviour and update our measurement and evaluation metrics accordingly.
- Ensure documents are reviewed annually and updated to reflect the latest best practice and insights from our wider interventions.
- Co-ordinate the different individuals and teams working across the Index to deliver the annual key findings report.
- Utilising our political monitoring service and our relations with employers, stay across updates from key stakeholders such as the Social Mobility Commission, the wider sector and employer research, utilising these insights to update our policy positions and develop our advice to employers.
- Undertake rapid scans of various types of data and evidence; produce summaries of the main findings and implications for policy and generate ideas for further policy opportunities.
- Present findings internally and support fundraising colleagues with the insights, tools, and knowledge to develop new products that can influence employer behaviour.
- Create resources for the wider organisation to ensure our evidence base and policy positions are understood, up to date and consistently used across teams.
- Attend relevant conferences, stakeholder meetings and gather intelligence, raising our profile and influencing where appropriate.
- Support the Campaigns Officer (media) and Campaigns Officer (public affairs) with the insights required for political and media interventions. E.g. briefing MPs and creating briefing materials for media interviews.
- Administrative tasks as needed.
Essential skills and experience
- Experience of developing policy positions for an organisation.
- Experience in translating research into insights and using that to inform positions.
- Experience of analysing and interpreting data sets to develop policy positions.
