About the roles

As a Trustee of Lantra, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of skills development within the land-based and environment sector.

Your responsibilities will include providing strategic direction by helping to define and guide the vision, mission, and values of the organisation, ensuring they are effectively translated into actionable plans. Another key part of the role is ensuring financial stability by overseeing budgets, assessing risks, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and governance requirements.

You will work closely with the Executive Team to bring your own unique set of expertise and knowledge to the organisation and monitor the delivery of activities and assess performance against agreed objectives. Trustees also support the Chief Executive and the leadership team in decision-making, offering insight and expertise that contribute to the continued growth and success of the organisation.

Additionally, you will act as an ambassador for Lantra, representing the organisation at key industry events, building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders to promote and advance Lantra’s mission.

Who we are looking for

Lantra seek individuals who share a deep commitment to skills development and the positive impact it can have within industries and communities.

Ideal candidates will bring strategic insight, commercial awareness and strong communication skills that enable them to work effectively at all levels. The ability to critically assess and challenge existing strategies constructively is essential, as is a proactive and problem-solving mindset. You should be comfortable contributing to discussions on financial oversight, risk management, and operational performance, ensuring that Lantra remains on a stable and sustainable path.

Lantra are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in skills and career development, whether in policy, workforce planning, training, or related areas.

Additionally, applications from those involved in the technological advancement of farming and key land-based sectors, including environmental sustainability, forestry, and land management will be actively welcomed. These areas are increasingly critical yet currently underrepresented on Lantra’s Board, and they are looking to bring in new perspectives to enhance their strategic vision.

Experience in leadership, governance, or board-level decision-making would be an advantage, as would previous experience within an organisation with a strong regulatory or educational focus; however, this is not essential.

Beyond professional experience, Lantra is looking for individuals passionate about the sectors they represent, i.e., land-based, the environment, and the great outdoors in general.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Supporting your team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure volunteers are happy and confident
• Making sure the team observes charity best practice and compliance
• Collaborating with your Branch Development Manager (BDM) to plan volunteer activity
• Leading the team to follow Cats Protection policies, procedures and guidelines
• Monitoring expenditure and helping ensure long term financial stability of the volunteer group
• Organising and chairing team meetings

Time expectation

Our branch team leader volunteers usually spend 10 to 15 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed. There will be times of year when more hours are required, such as towards the end of the financial year, but support and guidance are available.

The RSPB is seeking friendly, enthusiastic volunteers to support our visitor engagement activities at Nagshead Nature Reserve, a beautiful and wildlife-rich site. This role involves helping visitors feel welcome, offering information about trails, events, and wildlife sightings, and encouraging people to connect with nature. Tasks may include greeting guests, recommending walks, sharing recent wildlife news, assisting with family-friendly activities like pond dipping, processing small payments for refreshments or pin badges, and chatting about the RSPB’s conservation work.

Volunteers will also help maintain a clean and inviting visitor centre, update information displays, and check trails and hides while engaging with visitors. Opening and closing the visitor centre may be part of the role, and full training and support are provided.

The role is ideal for people who enjoy interacting with others and want to make a positive difference. You’ll be part of a supportive team, meet new people, and spend time outdoors on a stunning reserve. Volunteering at Nagshead offers opportunities to learn about nature conservation and gain valuable skills in public engagement and reserve management.

The Nagshead Visitor Centre is open from 11am to 3pm on weekends and Bank Holidays from April to September, and every Wednesday during summer holidays. Volunteers use the RSPB’s Assemble platform to book shifts, and all shifts require at least two people, so you’ll never be working alone.

Please note: Volunteers must be 18 or older due to safeguarding policies at Nagshead.

Canine Partners is looking for caring homes to care for and train our puppies before they progress to assistance dog training. We consider this a long-term volunteer role as the puppy / dog will live with you. This may be from 8 weeks old until they progress to join our elite breeding programme or are ready to progress into assistance dog training at approximately 14 to 18 months of age. There may be occasions when an older puppy requires a home to continue with training until ready for assistance dog training.

By volunteering you will:

‘Without the continued hard work and support from our puppy volunteers, we would not be able to provide our clients with our life changing dogs.You will need to be available for and attend training sessions, during the working week. This can involve:

• Home visits
• Veterinary or physiotherapy visits
• Virtual online training
• One-to-ones in the community
• Group sessions in the community
• Regular group puppy training classes

You will need to attend regular visits within your local community to various environments to carefully expose the puppy to the following conditions, under the direction of your Puppy Training Coordinator, to socialise them: residential areas, busy town environments, car travel, public transport, children, cats, other dogs (different breeds), and other domestic animals.

With the guidance, support, and advice from our expert trainers, you will be taught the fundamentals of puppy socialisation as well as simple cues and exercises. For example:

• Identifying the dogs’ needs
• Home behaviour
• Social behaviour
• Walking on a lead
• Off lead exercise
• General obedience   

You will need to maintain the dog’s health and welfare by following guidance from the Puppy Training Coordinator and report any concerns immediately.

What we require from you

• The primary puppy volunteer must be 18 years of age or over.
• You will need to reside in a house/bungalow/ground floor flat with a dog friendly secure garden (non-shared) NB We are unable to accept a townhouse for puppies under the age of 6 months due to health and safety risks to the volunteer and puppy.
• If you are a dog owner, with up to two pet dogs of suitable temperament, as assessed during the home check, you are welcome to apply. They must be over 18 months of age and have lived within the home for at least six months.
• You will need to be at home for most of the day, able to engage with your Puppy Training Coordinator, and live within the boundaries of the Puppy Training Region.
• You need to have the Time to provide the puppy with the socialisation and education it needs to prepare it for assistance dog training.
• You will need the Stamina to manage a young active puppy / dog.
• You will need Access to a car, so that you can train the puppy to be comfortable whilst travelling, to travel to veterinary appointments, classes, and training locations on a regular basis.
• Be mindful that the dog in your care remains under the ownership of Canine Partners, and as such advice from Canine Partners’ representatives should be followed.

Support and Training

• Induction process which includes submitting of an information form, telephone interview, home visit, training, and handling sessions
• Each volunteer is allocated a Canine Partners Puppy Training Coordinator as their first point of contact.
• Receive regular training, resources, and other essential information via your Puppy Training Coordinator, this may be in the format of verbal instructions, physical copies, digital instructions, video, and webinar resources or in person.
• No previous dog ownership experience is needed but you must meet the criteria listed above to be considered.
• Holiday cover and appointments cover can be arranged.
• Payment of expenditure such as mileage to and from a training session with a Canine Partner representative
• Access to our volunteer portal with many resources for your use.

About Skanda Vale Hospice

Skanda Vale Hospice offers unhurried, highly individualised care and respite to families affected by life-limiting illnesses, completely free of charge. A beautiful and happy place, filled with laughter and vibrant colour, our hospice is nurse led and primarily run by volunteers. What will I be doing?

• Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting and disinfecting surfaces in bedrooms, bathrooms and throughout the hospice.

• Washing, drying, and ironing laundry.

• Disposing of waste (general and clinical), including recycling.

• Helping with infection control by following our in-house procedures and using personal protective equipment when needed.

• Working as part of a wider team to keep the building fresh, clean and welcoming.

How much time should I give?

Completely flexible, whatever you can offer – some volunteers offer time every week, others support on a monthly basis at the end of respite stays, some help quarterly with deep cleans or just occasionally to prepare or clear up around special events in our calendar.

The Council of Trustees

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust is governed by a council of trustees.  The Council is responsible for ensuring effective governance, setting and monitoring the Trust’s strategic direction and policies and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations (including the Charities Act 2011 and Companies Act 2006). 

Trustees are required to attend council meetings. There are eight of these per year, although this may be supplemented with additional meetings as needed. Trustees meetings are held on Monday evenings at our HQ at Lower Smite Farm with the option to join online via Zoom. Trustees are also required to attend the Annual General Meeting and meetings of any committees or working groups they are involved in. The Chair, Vice Chair, Honorary Treasurer and Honorary Secretary are elected by the Council annually. Council currently has 16 members, you can read the profiles of current Trustees on our website.

The normal mode of communication for council matters is email and electronic format documents. This enables the effective use of time and resources and minimises our environmental impacts where possible.

The Duties of a Trustee

Trustees are committed to devoting time and effort to use their skills, knowledge and experience to help Worcestershire Wildlife Trust achieve its aims:

• Ensure that the Trust complies with its governing documents, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
• Contribute to the development of the Trust’s strategic plan and review as appropriate.
• Act always in the Trust’s best interests, working with fellow trustees to make balanced and adequately informed decisions, considering the long term as well as the short term.
• Avoid putting oneself in a position where one’s duty to the Trust conflicts with personal interests or loyalty to any other person or body.
• Ensure the financial stability of the organisation, taking special care when investing or borrowing and never over-committing the Trust.
• Ensure the Trust’s assets are only used to support or fulfil its charitable purposes and in accordance with its strategic aims and policies.
• Avoid exposing the Trust’s assets, beneficiaries or reputation to undue risk.
• Use reasonable care and skill, making use of knowledge and experience and taking appropriate advice when necessary.
• Devote enough time, thought and energy to the role, for example by preparing for, attending and actively participating in all trustees’ meetings.
• Comply with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and ensure appropriate accountability to members.

Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Volunteering alongside colleagues including the branch coordinator/team leader, Cat Welfare team, branch development manager and Vet team to ensure that cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied
• Support fosterers to follow cat welfare policies and procedures
• Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
• Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified systems
• Attending relevant volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
• With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers
• Represent the branch at relevant meetings
• Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat adoption team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with our policies and procedures

Time expectation

The time expectation for this role will vary depending on the number of volunteers and cats in care. Our cat welfare team leaders usually spend between 10 to 12 hours per week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Now that spring has sprung, we have an excellent seasonal opportunity for those who love the great outdoors and wish to support the animals in our care. If you love to be outside and enjoy gardening, why not consider joining our team as a Gardening Volunteer, supporting our small but mighty Grounds & Maintenance team who look after our 10 acre site. 

About the Role

Based in bucolic Claverton Down, we are lucky to have several large green spaces in which to excercise our dogs - and a brilliant cat garden for our feline friends! This takes a lot of looking after though and we are keen to hear from potential volunteers who would like to take on a specific area of our site as a project, tending to it on a weekly basis and seeing it flourish throughout the summer. There are several areas to choose from, including our Enrichment Paddock, Behaviour Cabin Garden and Pet Cemetery. There are also general gardening tasks to crack on wtih, such as sweeping the Summer House, mowing and strimming, and tackling weeds in the kennel block paddocks. 

This is a rewarding role as you will be able to see at the end of your shift the results of your hard work! You will also have the satisfaction of knowing that you have directly impacted the lives of the animals in our care by creating a safe outside space for them to enjoy off-lead play time and exploration, keeping their bodies active and their brains engaged. 

About You 

You will be a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a love for animals. This role requires elements of manual handling so you will need to be physically fit and this should be considered upon application. You will be a team player who is able to carefully follow instructions and relevant health and safety requirements for the position, for example the use of appropriate PPE. 

Full in person training will be provided by the maintenance team. Your hours will be flexible in line with current staffing levels, but during the spring and summer a weekly requirement of at least 2 hours is required, weather-dependant. 

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Business Development Volunteer to help us expand our client base, secure partnerships, and identify new opportunities for growth. We believe that this is an exciting opportunity for someone with extensive experience in business development and who is eager to contribute to delivering meaningful social change within a professional business environment.

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role – you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example:

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 
• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations
• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press
• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork
• championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
• photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!
