At Cats Protection we help thousands of cats and kittens each year thanks to our dedicated and passionate volunteer groups. We have branches across the UK, all of which help our cats in different ways. Branches take in stray and abandoned cats and ensure they receive the veterinary care and attention they deserve; help raise funds, promote neutering and help spread cat welfare messages. Our branch team leader volunteers lead their local team by supporting and managing volunteers within their group, maintaining communications with both volunteers and employees, and helping promote a positive and professional image of Cats Protection.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Supporting your team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure volunteers are happy and confident
• Making sure the team observes charity best practice and compliance
• Collaborating with your Branch Development Manager (BDM) to plan volunteer activity
• Leading the team to follow Cats Protection policies, procedures and guidelines
• Monitoring expenditure and helping ensure long term financial stability of the volunteer group
• Organising and chairing team meetings
• Acting as an ambassador for Cats Protection

Time expectation

Our branch team leader volunteers usually spend 10 to 15 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed. There will be times of year when more hours are required, such as towards the end of the financial year, but support and guidance are available.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Disseminating relevant organisation-wide information and updates to the branch volunteers
• Supporting engagement and communication between the branch and wider organisation
• Drafting committee meeting agendas and taking and sharing meeting minutes
• Supporting the efficient running of the branch by ensuring administration processes are carried out effectively
• Supporting the administration and update of the branch annual plan 
• Sign-posting queries from members of the public
• Keeping branch records and information up to date and secure, using Cats Protection systems – training will be provided

Puppy Support Volunteers support our Puppy Training Regions, to provide short term care and holiday cover for puppies/dogs from 8 weeks onwards. This ranges from a day cover to a few weeks care, maintaining the basic care and individual exercise requirements of the puppy as well as helping them to adapt to living with different carers and routines. To maintain basic training according to Canine Partners’ methods and continue behaviour plans for their development age, such as toilet training and loose lead walking, both in the home and in residential areas.

By volunteering you will:

What is involved

Care for a dog in your home as a temporary placement. This can range from days, weekends, weeks, months, depending on the charity’s needs.

Be available for:

• Virtual online training
• One-to-ones in the community
• Group sessions in the community
• Attend classes to learn and keep up to date with the techniques being used
• Maintain basic training and obedience in the home and local residential areas
• Be available for pre-planned holiday and emergency cover
• Attend vet visits when necessary
• Maintaining the dog’s health and welfare and, via support and training, to recognise behaviour/health concerns and report them immediately to your Canine Partners trainer
• Raise awareness of Canine Partners

What we require from you

• The primary puppy volunteer must be 18 years of age or over.
• You will need to reside in a house/bungalow/ground floor flat with a dog friendly secure garden (non-shared). Please note that we are unable to accept a townhouse for puppies under the age of 6 months due to health and safety risks to the volunteer and puppy.
• If you are a dog owner with no more than two pet dogs of suitable temperament, as assessed during the home check, you are welcome to apply.  They must be over 18 months of age and have lived within the home for at least six months.
• Commit to attend regular group classes even when without a dog (once a month) to maintain knowledge and application of the training expected when the dogs are with you.
• Practical and physical role with the ability to recognise your own limitations.’  For example, lifting and carrying a 12kg puppy
• Settling the puppy/dog into a new home requires time and patience. It can take a while for them to feel completely relaxed. Settling in period will be different with each puppy/dog.
• Keep in touch with your staff point of contact with regular updates
• Access to own transport to travel to vet appointments and meet your trainer, as required
• Understand that the dog in your care remains under the ownership of Canine Partners, and as such advice from canine Partners representatives should be followed.

Support and Training

• Induction process which includes submitting of an information form, telephone interview, home visit, training, and handling sessions
• Each volunteer is allocated a Canine Partners Puppy Training Coordinator as their first point of contact.
• Receive regular training, resources, and other essential information via your Puppy Training Coordinator, this may be in the format of verbal instructions, physical copies, digital instructions, video, and webinar resources or in person.
• No previous dog ownership experience is needed but you must meet the criteria listed above to be considered.
• Holiday cover and appointments cover can be arranged.
• Payment of expenditure such as mileage to and from a training session with a Canine Partner representative
• Access to our volunteer portal with many resources for your use.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us in our Trafford warehouse. The warehouse is where the food arrives, and is sorted before it arrives at the hub. It is a busy environment, and you’d be working alongside the TBBT team. To volunteer for the warehouse, you would need to be 18 years old or older.

Volunteering at the warehouse would include:

• Packing bags for the hubs.
• Organising stock, and ensuring food is stored correctly and at the right temperature.
• Keeping the warehouse tidy, and helping with recycling.
• Helping to load the vans.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us in our Stoke warehouse. The warehouse is where the food arrives, and is sorted before it arrives at the hub. It is a busy environment, and you’d be working alongside the TBBT team. To volunteer for the warehouse, you would need to be 18 years old or older.

Volunteering at the warehouse would include:

• Packing bags for the hubs.
• Organising stock, and ensuring food is stored correctly and at the right temperature.
• Keeping the warehouse tidy, and helping with recycling.
• Helping to load the vans.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us in our Chilton warehouse. The warehouse is where the food arrives, and is sorted before it arrives at the hub. It is a busy environment, and you’d be working alongside the TBBT team. To volunteer for the warehouse, you would need to be 18 years old or older.

Volunteering at the warehouse would include:

• Packing bags for the hubs.
• Organising stock, and ensuring food is stored correctly and at the right temperature.

Our innovative model is based on three principles: Prevent, Protect and Pursue.  We are one of the UK’s largest providers of survivor services, with ten safehouses and six outreach hubs, staffed round the clock by specialist staff, working with more than 600 men, women and dependent children each year.  We work to raise awareness in the UK and to provide preventive work in source countries. Our Pursue work helps survivors to engage with police and within the legal  system to seek justice and to secure convictions against their perpetrators.

We recognise the importance of wellbeing and being in nature, so we are looking for a Gardening Volunteer to help us develop and maintain our garden alongside our service users. Teaching them the skills of planting, maintaining, and harvesting their own food, as well as other plants.

We are looking for a Gardening Volunteer to help support us with gardening and working alongside service users to teach them all things gardening related, tasks will include:

• Digging, planting, maintaining, harvesting of plants and flowers.

• General gardening duties.

• Sharing knowledge of plants, flowers and food cultivation with service users. 

• Organising gardening activities for service user participation.

• Consulting service users to gain their feedback about what sessions they would like to participate in.

• Helping service users to socialise within a group setting. 

• To offer a safe and comfortable experience for all service users, showing awareness of service users’ varying physical and mental well-being needs.

• To provide feedback to Service Manager reporting any observations or concerns in a timely manner.

• Making refreshments/drinks

• Helping to set up and tidy up group space

• To take part in regular supervision and support

• To regularly attend volunteer or staff meetings

• To attend training as and when required

• To work within agreed professional boundaries at all times

The role would suit someone who is friendly, kind, empathetic and non-judgemental.  This position is very rewarding and would suit a person who is happy to work in a team, in a busy and sometimes challenging environment.   

This role requires maturity, and an ability to engage with female adults in a trauma informed way, while working alongside staff members to deliver the activities in line with agreed procedures and systems.

• Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. 

• Volunteers will need to have a good standard of spoken and written English

• Have experience or qualifications in gardening, cultivation and harvesting of plants and flowers.

• This role requires a regular commitment every week

• Ability to maintain confidentiality is essential

• Volunteers to have knowledge and understanding of human trafficking issues or willingness to learn

• Knowledge of mental health issues and the challenges faced or a willingness to learn

RSPB Pinner and District Local Group needs someone to help plan our programme of talks. We can provide all the help and assistance you need, including a directory of speakers.

This is a fantastic role to get involved locally and be at the forefront of solutions to help save nature in your community. It is an opportunity to try new things and use your skills to make a valuable contribution to the work of your RSPB Local Group. We are a friendly and supportive team, so you will get the chance to build new relationships and meet new faces.

You will be leading the group in developing a range of activities designed to encourage wide participation from the group membership and to attract new group members, as well as heading the committee comprising individuals which assist with the running of the group and the activities which we run. You will have the support of Area/Country offices, and HQ.

Outdoor Learning Volunteer Officers are a key part of our team at Skelton Grange Environment Centre and are involved in:
- Supporting and leading environmental activities with young people and the local community.
- Planning and preparing sessions - and sometimes even developing new activities to help young people connect with nature.
- You will be trained and supported by experienced project staff and work as part of a team with paid staff, trainees and other Volunteers.

Typical activities for the Outdoor Learning Volunteer role include:
- Running environmental education sessions for school visits during term time.
- Running play activities for groups of children and young people during the school holidays.
- Keeping education day resources up to date and developing new resources, activities or materials as required.
- Helping with the general running of the centre and the project, including both development work and routine maintenance to ensure we are an inspiring location for visitors to experience nature.

- Running a range of outdoor education and play activities and events with schools and community groups on the Skelton Grange Environment Centre site.
- Planning, risk assessing and running safe and engaging activities outside for children.

WHO WE ARE

The Westmill Sustainable Energy Trust (WeSET) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation promoting sustainable energy deployment / education and focuses its work within a 25-mile radius of the Westmill Wind Farm & Solar Park, near the village of Watchfield, between Oxford and Swindon.

The Wind Farm at Westmill has been in operation for over fifteen years now, with five turbines that produce enough electricity to power over 2,600 homes. The Solar Park beside the turbines produces the electricity for a further 1,100 homes. Both projects are community-owned.

Westmill is the only place in southern England where people can see wind and solar power in action on the same site.

WHAT WE DO

One of the main ways in which we connect with others is by giving tours of Westmill, where we welcome groups large and small consisting of members of the public, plus community groups, primary school classes and university students. Additionally, on occasion, we also welcome planners, civil servants, councillors and others involved in making decisions about renewable energy.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team of volunteers at WeSET to help guide people around the Westmill site. If you are passionate about sustainable energy and a low-carbon future, and are eager to share your interest with others, then we'd love to hear from you.

As a WeSET volunteer tour guide you would interact with our visitors, telling the story of how the Westmill Wind Farm & Solar Park was created, describing how our turbines were installed and how they operate, and detailing the installation and energy generation of over twenty-thousand solar panels. You would be trained and guided on the content and its delivery.

On some occasions, you will be working alone in welcoming and leading groups at Westmill, and on other occasions you may be working alongside other guides.

You may also prefer to work as 'guide support' which is another volunteering role available that provides practical help to our guides during the tours.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

If you already have knowledge of renewables then this would be useful. But it is by no means essential as we can introduce you! Either way, we would run you through some training and shadowing sessions to bring you up to speed.

Experience of work in a public-facing role would also be useful, but is not crucial as you will be guided on the rudiments by our existing guides, with continuing, ongoing support from the WeSET Visits Coordinator.

This opportunity may only be suitable for people who live in north-east Wiltshire, south-east Gloucestershire, south-west Oxfordshire or west Berkshire - all to allow quick and easy travel to and from the Westmill site. We can offer reimbursement for any travel expenses, usually within a 15-mile radius of Westmill, and this can be discussed in advance of any volunteering.

If you have a happy, friendly demeanour, with a genuine passion for sustainability, then this could be a great opportunity to share that passion and meet other like-minded people at the same time!

RSPB Brighton and District Local Group needs someone to help plan our programme of talks. We can provide all the help and assistance you need, including a directory of speakers.

We love to share our news with our supporters. It’s the key to ensuring they know what a difference their support makes to the lives of the cats and dogs in our care. But it’s a big job and we’re a small team, so we’re looking for people with an interest in writing or design who would be willing to give time on a regular basis to work alongside us. 

As a Creative/Copywriting Volunteer, you will help us share our stories, raise awareness, and inspire action to support our vital work. Working alongside our Communications & Marketing team, you will play a crucial role in crafting compelling and engaging content across various platforms to connect with our supporters and drive positive change for animals in need.

Role Profile

This is a new volunteer role working with the Communications & Marketing team. It’s an exciting time and we’re looking to tailor our communications to what our supporters want to know, and really put our supporters in the spotlight, showing the crucial part they play in our charity. We are only able to give the dogs and cats in our care happy homes and healthy lives thanks to all the people who step forward to support us. Whether they are adopting, fostering, volunteering or raising money, their role is invaluable!

Your key activities could include:

• Gathering news
• Copywriting and editing
• Processing photographs or video content
• Small design jobs
• Uploading content to our email programme or website
• Maintaining confidentiality in line with Bath Cats & Dogs Home’s Data Protection Policy

Full training and support would be available.

About You

This role would suit a creative individual with a love of animals who would like to help us to make engaging and entertaining content for our supporters. Experience of using a mix of standard IT software, such as MS word or Google Docs, and design and image manipulation software, such as Canva, would be beneficial but training will be provided in house. The ideal candidiate will have excellent communication and writing skills; creative storytelling ability and an understanding of writing in various styles and for different platforms.
