About us
Action for Conservation is a grassroots charity using pioneering approaches to inspire and empower young people from diverse backgrounds, between the ages of 12 and 24, to become the next generation of environmental leaders. We have recently embarked on an inspiring and ambitious new, three-year project funded through the National Lottery Community Fund: Intergenerational Action for Nature and Climate. This will see us working across two sites, Grow Wilder in Bristol and Heartwood, near Matlock in Derbyshire, and using our proven intergenerational land stewardship approach to restore biodiversity and connect young people to nature, empowering them to become life-long climate activists and advocates for nature.
The role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and be a part of the project from the very beginning, playing a key role in its success. You will work closely with other members of the project team, as well as our partners Avon Wildlife Trust, to support the development and successful delivery of the project at Grow Wilder in Bristol.
Through regular online engagement and monthly visits to the Grow Wilder site, you will support us in facilitating an intergenerational co-design process, using eco-cultural mapping and other participatory methods. Involving key stakeholders, including Avon Wildlife Trust, a Youth Leadership Group of young people aged 12-18 living locally to Grow Wilder, land knowledge holders and the wider community, this process will enable participants to collectively develop an ambitious vision for the future of Grow Wilder. One of the outcomes of this process will be a shared plan for restoring nature and improving biodiversity at Grow Wilder, which will be implemented throughout the lifetime of the project and beyond.
Working in collaboration with our partners Avon Wildlife Trust, you will be responsible for coordinating all project activities, providing high-quality administrative and organisational support to the project team. You will also lead or support a variety of engaging sessions, webinars and hands-on activities with the project partners, young people, community groups and other project stakeholders.
Start date: as soon as possible, ideally mid/late October
Contract: Fixed-term for three years, with scope to extend subject to funding
Starting salary: £28,121.27 - £29,317.92 (FTE , pro-rata if working part time) depending on experience
Location: Bristol. This role requires regular travel within Bristol and the South West region, as well as occasional national travel
Working hours: full-time (35 hours) or part-time (21 hours). This role requires regular evening and weekend work, as well as occasional residential stays/work. Time off in lieu (TOIL) can be taken for work outside of usual office hours.

- Support the South West Programme Manager and Land-based Projects Lead to design and facilitate an intergenerational co-design process, using eco-cultural mapping and other participatory methods, to develop a future vision for Grow Wilder.
- Plan, coordinate and deliver monthly visits of the Youth Leadership Group to the Grow Wilder site.
- Facilitate the activity of the Youth Leadership Group outside of Grow Wilder visits to ensure young people are equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to engage fully with the project.
- Plan, coordinate and deliver school/youth group visits and community nature restoration action days at Grow Wilder.
- Support monitoring and evaluation activities to understand the impact of the project and facilitate learnings.
- (If applicable) Support the delivery of our core programmes for young people, helping young people to experience, connect with and take action for nature.

We are excited to recruit a Community Organiser for our Birmingham Parent Power project. This role offers a meaningful, paid professional development opportunity. We are excited to be recruiting a Senior Research and Evaluation Officer to join The Brilliant Club. The role will help deliver the goals set out in Join The Club, our ambitious strategy for 2021-26, by supporting the charity’s growing research and evaluation consultancy work via Brilliant Consulting. The Senior Research and Evaluation Officer will contribute to improving the evidence base for what works to drive fairer education outcomes and social mobility. The Senior Research and Evaluation Officer will join a small consultancy team and will be managed by the charity’s Research and Evaluation Manager. The team is also supported by a number of colleagues from across the organisation who work on specific projects based on their areas of expertise. The consultancy team is part of the charity’s wider research and impact team, who collectively have two areas of responsibility: evaluating and reporting the impact of the charity’s programmes and providing research and evaluation consultancy and strategy support to education organisations.
The successful candidate will have strong research skills, including in quantitative research, and will be able to communicate technical information and findings to university access and success practitioners and educators. They will also demonstrate professional skills in relation to stakeholder management and project management and will champion the charity’s values and embody them in interactions with colleagues and partners. While this role can be based at any of our offices throughout the UK, some travel will be required (mainly to London) to attend in-person meetings.
The role will best suit someone who
- has a degree in a subject involving applied research (e.g., economics, education, policy, psychology, sociology, statistics).
- has quantitative research skills, ideally with experience of constructing comparison groups and running statistical models to understand impact.

What you’ll be doing
Your focus will be to grow our charity’s impact and revenue streams by fundraising for environmental education, benefitting people and nature by securing funds from supporters, trusts/foundations, and businesses.
This will include building relationships with potential legators, inspiring supporters to maintain their commitment, eventually leaving the Field Studies Council a gift in their Will as well as turning strategic and operational priorities into practical funding bids.

- Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to draft fundraising bids, developing persuasive proposals and collating appropriate supporting documentation.
- Proactively develop positive, long-term relationships that grow Field Studies Council’s pipeline of prospects
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and understanding of relevant governmental, sector and business opportunities to identify potential funding opportunities
- Fundraising administration including gift processing, donor thanking and stewardship
- Supporting at events and funding meetings, as required

Where you’ll be based
The base location for this position is negotiable, with full remote working / home working a possibility. However, if you prefer working in office, we have Field Studies Centres throughout the country which you are also able to work from. We will also consider hybrid working options.
There may the occasional need to travel to meet with, colleagues, prospective funders and other stakeholders. We expect this to be limited, no more than once every 2-3 months.
Who we’re looking for
You will be passionate about our charity’s mission and understand the importance of Environmental Education.
It’s essential that you have experience working in a fundraising role or department. We need an experienced individual who is confident to write and submit successful fundraising bids to trusts, foundations and businesses.
You will also have experience creating and managing successful supporter journeys to optimise our donations, particularly legators.
As a natural at building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, you will be able to tell compelling stories to encourage individuals and organisations to support our aim to connect people to nature.

We are seeking a coordinator for our educational mentoring programme for young refugees and asylum seekers. The coordinator will oversee our North London mentoring hub by recruiting and training volunteer mentors and matching them to young people needing additional educational support.

We are looking for an enthusiastic people person with great communications and organisational skills to help recruit and coordinate our talented volunteers. You will help take ANT to our next level of impact by leveraging volunteers to deliver tree planting and tree care activities across our woodland sites. Your role will support volunteer activities across Avon Needs Trees, but with a focus on our two largest sites: Great Avon Wood and Lower Chew Forest.
You will join a fast-growing organisation that started in 2019 with four volunteers and has grown to a staff team of nineteen (with more recruitment in the pipeline for 2024), over 1,000 volunteers and ownership of nearly 600 acres of land that will grow woodlands of over 160,000 trees.
Your legacy will be a tangible impact on slowing down climate change, helping nature recover and creating social impact by developing funding relationships that support our woodland projects and organisational development more broadly.
Main responsibilities
- Lead on the coordination of our volunteer leaders and volunteers to ensure we can deliver our volunteer tree planting, tree care days, and other activities, for example outreach volunteering or fundraising volunteering. Volunteer coordination includes:
- Managing volunteer leader rotas and calendars
- Ensuring all volunteers are provided with timely, accurate and clear logistical information ahead of volunteer days
- Responding to volunteer and volunteer leader enquiries in a timely manner
- Putting in place suitable contingency plans in the case of a volunteer leader having to pull out of a commitment
- Administering our volunteer management system
- Work with the Chew Valley Project Team and the Engagement, Communications & Fundraising team to recruit new volunteers and volunteer leaders, and ensure the ongoing engagement of our current recruits. This includes:
- Communications focused on volunteer recruitment
- Coordinating volunteers along the recruitment process
- Ensuring our web and digital assets are accurate and up to date
- Producing high quality communications outputs targeted at our volunteers and volunteer leaders, for example, volunteer news bulletins
- Volunteer focused project promotion on social media and other channels
- Act as the first point of contact for all volunteer related enquiries by managing our volunteer inbox and dealing with volunteer enquiries on the phone
- Ensure volunteering complies with our processes and policies, this includes:
- Ensure all volunteer related documents are filed appropriately on our shared drive
- Ensure all volunteer based activities are in line with ANT’s volunteer and health and safety processes and policies
- Review volunteer expense requests
- Escalating any issues in a timely and professional manner to the appropriate member of staff
- Work with the Chew Valley Project Team to support event delivery and logistics as required
- As with all Avon Needs Trees roles, contributing to grant writing and fundraising activities
