Responsibilities and Person Specification:
Working closely with the CEO, the Director of Policy and Influencing and the Head of Influencing, the Head of Policy and Research will lead an ambitious programme of research and policy development - with the experience of older people in poverty at the core - to secure change on reserved policy issues across the UK. The Head of Policy and Research will work proactively, collaboratively and strategically with internal and external stakeholders to secure support for our policy and practice recommendations and make them a reality. They will provide effective, inspirational, transparent and compassionate leadership and line management to colleagues in the Policy and Research department. This is one of two new roles in our well established Policy and Influencing Directorate, building on our commitment to drive forward policy change that tackles poverty in later life.
You should have a passion to tackle poverty in later life, significant experience leading and evaluating large and complex programmes of strategic policy work and devising creative and workable policy solutions that are adopted by UK Government, businesses and/or regulators. It’s also essential to be an experienced line manager and team player, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders across the nations to secure policy change.

Salary

We work in partnership with Age UK Buckinghamshire to deliver the Hospital Discharge Support Service. The service covers the county of Buckinghamshire and aims to improve the experience of people leaving hospital, at what can be a very difficult time for them. Our teams work with patients to make this experience more manageable and to minimise the risk of readmission. This service supports people aged 18 who are leaving hospital after a stay. Older people are highly represented in this client group.

You will lead a team of staff with oversight of each service area, will be highly organised, able to make decisions and use your initiative. The purpose of the role is to manage and deliver the day-to-day operation of the service. Operating across Buckinghamshire, our discharge staff are based at both Stoke Mandeville and Wexham Park hospitals. Our community team are based in the Age UK Buckinghamshire offices in Aylesbury but reach out to serve residents across the county. Additionally, a team of volunteers provide additional capacity and reach. The post holder will be based at the office in Aylesbury but will be expected to travel across the two hospital sites when required,
The hospital teams operate 7 days a week supporting patients on discharge. Over a year more than a thousand patients will be taken home by our teams and helped to settle in safely. The community team will support residents post discharge, liaising with any other services, offering practical support to settle in at home such as shopping, light housework or picking up prescriptions and offering a regular call to ensure all is well.

About the role
We’re hiring our first Corporate Fundraising Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to join us at a key moment in our growth and shape our approach to corporate fundraising for the future. We’re aiming to generate £100,000 of corporate partnership income in the next twelve months, while laying strong foundations for growth from there.
You’ll report directly to and work closely with our CEO in expanding our network of corporate partners to increase our income, the opportunities we can offer young people and the scale of our impact.
You’ll be:
- Leading on identifying, researching, engaging and converting new corporate prospects and relationships. We work with a range of partners, including Wild Cosmetics, PA Consulting and Newsflare.
- Management of new business pipeline and prospect lists, including use and maintenance of corporate prospects data via Airtable.
- Proactive networking with early careers, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Corporate Social Responsibility leaders to develop new partnerships that grow GoodWork’s impact.
- Working with the CEO to develop our propositions, periodically refreshing our corporate offer with creative ideas, proposals and content to inspire decision makers.
- Maintaining and strengthening relationships with existing corporate partners in order to generate sustainable income and opportunities for young people.
- Getting involved with the delivery of our programme, to build your understanding of our mission and how we work with young people. This might involve mentoring one of our programme participants, supporting workshop delivery or interview coaching as a small part of your role, helping you stay close to the heart of what we do.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone with a track record of securing significant income and managing corporate relationships. There is scope for this to become a permanent, full-time position and for the successful candidate to become a key member of GoodWork’s leadership team as the organisation grows.
- A strong track-record in corporate fundraising, with demonstrable evidence of five-figure new business income generation.
- We will also consider candidates with proven business development experience in the private sector, with a well-articulated desire to move into the third sector and ability to rapidly build relevant knowledge and skills.
- Drive, ambition, strategic and creative thinking, with the ability to frame propositions to deliver mutual benefits for both GoodWork and our prospective partners.
- Tenacity and resilience, able to adapt and persist in the face of challenges and rejections.

Ways of working
Our team works together in-person two days a week at Fivefields (Mon/Thurs) and we’d like our Corporate Fundraising Manager to join us for at least one of these days.
This contract is for 0.6 FTE (22.5 hours per week). We work flexibly, provided all our team can fulfil the requirements of their roles and collaborate effectively with colleagues. With this in mind, we’re open to requests to split these hours across three or four days of the week as best suits the successful candidate.
You’ll need to be able to attend occasional in-person events, including possible evening sessions for which time off in lieu will be given. You should also expect to attend regular in-person meetings with our London-based employer partners.
