About the GOC
We are the regulator for the optical professions in the UK. Our purpose is to protect the public by promoting high standards of education, performance and conduct.
About the Advisory Panel
The Advisory Panel is a meeting of the four Council’s committees (Companies, Education, Registration and Standards) in plenary session. They are established by statute for the purpose of giving advice and assistance to Council (whether or not in response to a request from them) on:
· matters relating to business registrants other than matters required by the Opticians Act to be referred to the Investigation Committee, the Registration Appeals Committee or the Fitness to Practise Committee;
· matters relating to optical training, education and assessment;
· matters relating to registration, other than matters required by the Opticians Act to be considered by the Registration Appeals Committee; and
· matters relating to the standards of conduct and performance expected of registrants or those seeking admission to the register.
The committees and the Advisory Panel meet about twice a year. You can read the current terms of reference for the Advisory Panel, Education Committee, Registration Committee and Standards Committee.
Remuneration and time commitment
A daily fee of £319 will be paid. This is in line with our member fees policy and member fee schedule. This is taxable and subject to Class 1 National Insurance (NI) contributions. It is not pensionable.
Members can claim expenses for travel and subsistence costs incurred on Council business as set out in our expenses policy.
This role is part time with a commitment of approximately 2-3 days per year, including time spent preparing for meetings. Meetings will usually take place via MS Teams but may on occasion be held at the GOC Offices in London or other suitable venues.

We are seeking a self-motivated Member Support and Administrative Assistant to play a key role in our friendly team. The successful candidate will liaise with colleagues across the organisation focused on membership, communications, marketing and delivery, and as a result get invaluable insight into these functions. Once established in post the successful candidate will also benefit from our nine-day fortnight working pattern (providing a long weekend twice a month).
Background Information
The PSHE Association is the national body for the school subject of PSHE (personal, social, health and economic) education. We are a charity and membership organisation that supports a national network of over 50,000 teachers and schools with resources, training and support. PSHE lessons cover some of the most pressing issues facing young people today including mental and physical health, relationships, staying safe online, economic wellbeing, careers and the importance of equality and diversity.
The successful candidate will be joining us at an exciting time for us and we are expanding our services to meet growing demand and have a series of events coming up in the summer term.
Terms of Reference
The post is offered on a full time basis, on a permanent contract with a six-month probationary period. The salary will be £24,000.
At the PSHE Association, we believe in a healthy work-life balance. That is why we offer a nine-day fortnight working pattern, giving our team every other Friday off (in other words a long weekend twice a month). We believe this gives employees more time to recharge and more time for what matters to them. This shorter working week benefit (equivalent to 32 hours per week on full pay) kicks in once employees have successfully completed three months of their probationary period, with a standard 35-hour working week in place up until that point.
Our offices are based in central London, close to Russell Square, and this is where the role will be primarily based alongside some days working from home.

Role description
The applicant will be expected to take on a variety of responsibilities associated with supporting our national membership of PSHE education teachers and other professionals. This will include fielding phone and emailed member queries in a timely and friendly fashion and logging queries and activities on our membership database. The role will also include supporting the organisation and administration of the office, including processing memberships and payments, and maintaining and updating our database of contacts, supporting online training event bookings and logistics as well as supporting the team as required.

We are looking for an Inclusion Specialist (term time + 3 weeks only) to join a team providing specialist support and interventions for children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) impacted by the Grenfell tragedy.

The Role
The Inclusion Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting children and young people affected by the Grenfell tragedy. Working within the Education Hub and local schools, you will help enhance learning experiences, provide tailored interventions, and ensure inclusive practices for children with SEN.
You will:
- Deliver one-to-one and group-based interventions, including after-school programs and small group teaching sessions tailored to specific learning needs.
- Conduct diagnostic assessments to support the development of tailored learning plans.
- Work closely with families, schools, and community partners to provide holistic support for children with SEN.
- Act as a liaison between families and schools to ensure a cohesive approach to supporting children.
- Provide trauma-informed guidance to families, teachers, and school staff, focusing on emotional regulation and academic success.
- Support teachers in implementing inclusive strategies and differentiated instruction within the classroom.

About the Organisation
The Grenfell Education Hub will open later this year to serve those most affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy. The hub will provide educational support to children, young people, their families, and local schools.
Following a consultation process in 2023 and 2024, the hub will bring together a team of professionals, including four specialist teachers, an Educational Psychologist, a Speech and Language Therapist, an Occupational Therapist, a Careers Coordinator, and a Family Support Worker. Their time will be split between direct work with children and families in the hub and supporting local schools.

About the Role:

Essential Skills & Experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with substantial SEN experience across multiple key stages.
- Experience working with children affected by trauma, separation, and loss.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding policies and the ability to respond to concerns.
- Experience managing teams and supporting professional development in SEN settings.
- Knowledge of education legislation and policies, including EHCP processes and the Children and Families Act 2014.
- An understanding of trauma informed and restorative practice alongside a willingness to learn more.
- Ability to design and deliver bespoke interventions for children with complex needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to engage with diverse communities.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and training.

About the Organisation
The Grenfell Education Hub will open later this year to serve those most affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy. The hub will provide educational support to children and young people, their families, and local schools.
Following a consultation process in 2023 and 2024, the hub will bring together a team of professionals, including four specialist teachers, an Educational Psychologist, a Speech and Language Therapist, an Occupational Therapist, a Careers Coordinator, and a Family Support Worker. Their time will be split between direct work with children and families in the hub and supporting local schools. The hub’s objectives are to:
- Provide high-quality educational support to as many children and young people as possible.
- Build the skills and confidence of children, families, and education staff in local schools.
- Develop strong relationships with those most affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.
- Accurately assess its impact.
