With 1 in 5 children struggling with their mental health, our surf therapy intervention is needed now more than ever. We transform the lives of children struggling with depression and anxiety. Through our 6 week course we help them to feel calm, confident, to have positive thoughts about themselves, to have higher self esteem and trust in others. We work with over 2000 children and young people across the UK every year and have reached over 14,000 over the past 14 years.

• Support campaign managers and other colleagues with any new or existing projects relating to fundraising operations, working closely with internal stakeholders, ensuring requirements are clear and fully documented

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. The role

Is leading the charity through its next phases of development as it prepares itself for year on year increases in demand with a focus on delivering the charity’s future resilience plan (Project 12/25). The CEO is accountable for overall charity performance (financial, operational, governance, compliance), team (paid and volunteer) support and development. You are likely to have developed your portfolio of fundraising skills over time in an arts and cultural sector charity and can demonstrate experience in securing fundraising income, particularly in securing five and six figure donations. You will join a small, friendly team based in London’s famous West End theatre district, responsible for providing support of over £1.5M per year to actors and stage managers. Now, as we begin a new strategic direction, our case for support is more compelling than ever. It is an exciting time to be joining the charity - our new strategy, ‘Acting for Impact’, has a bold ambition to achieve meaningful change for the professional performing arts community - to help more people, in more ways - the Head of Fundraising will be central to achieving that.

This full-time role is based at our office in central London a minimum of three days per week, with some flexible working. Women and Girls Network (WGN) was established in 1987 and has spent over 30 years supporting women and girls across London affected by gendered violence. This includes childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, rape, prostitution (including trafficking and sexual exploitation), female genital mutilation (FGM), and so-called ‘honour’ based crimes such as forced marriage.

Our goal is to promote, preserve, and restore the mental health and wellbeing of women and girls, to empower them to make a total and sustainable recovery from the experiences of violence. VAWG crimes, which include domestic abuse, rape, sexual assault, stalking, and harassment, accounted for 20% of total police recorded crime in England and Wales between 2022 and 2023. About the role

We are excited to be advertising this newly created role as part of WGN’s growth. This role will be the lead on the finance function. Reporting into the Director of Finance and Resources, the role works closely with stakeholders across the organisation including executive leadership, with a specific focus on working closely with the Director and external auditors. The role will have two direct reports – Finance Business Partner and Finance Officer. This is a hands-on role and will have full responsibility for the finance function on a day to day and medium-term basis. The Financial Controller is to lead on all financial systems set up and upgrades.

Although the organisation is well established, this is a growing sector, and the organisation has gone through rapid change over the past few years and is therefore offering the right candidate a great opportunity to deliver change and make a real difference to WGN’s staff and clients. 

Role Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the management and development of the Finance Business Partner and Finance Officer.
• Preparing the year-end statutory accounts and liaising with external auditors.
• Responsible for ensuring that all financial controls are implemented and adhered to within the organisation, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Supporting non-finance colleagues and stakeholders in understanding all requirements related to the funding agreements.
• Leading the month-end process with the support of the Finance Business Partner and the Finance Officer.
• Leading on all financial systems set up and upgrades.
• Ensuring that all restricted funds are used in accordance with the funding agreements.
• Responsible for treasury and investment management across the organisation.
• Ensuring all payroll payments are made on time.
• Leading the procurement function across the organisation.

About you

If you are someone who has strong financial reporting, budget setting, and year end processing skills, with a keen eye on details and drive to facilitate change and enhance the finance function this role would be for you. 

The ideal candidate will:

• Have experience in working with the charity sector in a similar role for at least two years.
• Work well with non-finance colleagues and trustees in delivering key financial reports in an easy-to-understand manner.
• Be a qualified accountant.
• Be comfortable working in a hands-on environment
