About Ataxia UK
Ataxia is the umbrella term for a group of neurological conditions and Ataxia UK is the UK’s leading ataxia support and research charity. Ataxia UK collaborates with the global ataxia community through our Research team, and we are on the board of the international non-profit association, Euro-ataxia. Our Services team focuses on helping everyone affected by ataxia in the UK to live their best life. We have a Helpline and Advocacy service providing information, advice, and 1-2-1 support to help people access their rights; whilst the Community Engagement service provides activities, engagement and volunteering opportunities to bring the ataxia community together and reduce feelings of isolation.
About the Role
You will be joining at an exciting time for Ataxia UK as we enter our 60th anniversary year.
Responsible for the communications officer as well as a range of external suppliers, you will lead the day-to-day communications function as a key member of the Fundraising & Communications department. Working closely with the new Director of Fundraising & Communications, you will have the opportunity to help shape Ataxia UK’s new communications and brand strategy. You will work closely with the Director and Managers from the Fundraising team to engage and cultivate our network of Friends and volunteers, celebrity ambassadors, donors and fundraisers through dynamic marketing and communications assets and materials.
Ataxia UK operates a hybrid- working policy, with full time staff working 5 days a week expected to work from our offices in Highgate a minimum of 2 days a week. This is adjusted to 1 day per week for part time.

You will be a creative and dedicated communications professional looking for a new challenge and excited by the opportunity to help shape our new strategy. You will be someone who thrives in a project-management environment, as comfortable learning as you are leading, and able to work both independently and closely with colleagues and external suppliers.

This is a new role within the organisation, providing leadership to maintain the operations, finances, and team at the charity, alongside exploring exciting new directions in relation to partnerships and commercial opportunities.
This is a one year cover, with potential to extend.
The Managing Director is a crucial role within the organisation, and will be responsible to the Trustees for the overall leadership, management and strategic development of Fat Macy’s Foundation (including instigating projects and taking opportunities to increase income).
As the external face of the organisation, they will be a strong communicator, raising the profile of the organisation and networking effectively.
Responsible for Fat Macy’s income generation, they will be scanning the horizon for new business opportunities and seizing relevant opportunities to form new partnerships. Equally important will be internal management: developing an effective and efficient organisation.
Structure
The Managing Director reports to and is accountable to the Trustees.
The Managing Director will work in partnership with the Fat Macy’s co-founder and CEO of Fat Macy’s Ltd and will oversee the general management of the charity. They will line manage the senior leadership team at Fat Macy’s Foundation: the Programme and Grants Manager, the Development and Operations Manager and the Training Lead (0.5 FTE).

THE ROLE

Key Activities
Leadership and Governance
- Support the organisation in reviewing and implementing improved systems and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- As a Senior Management Team (SMT) member, take a leading role in The Girls' Network's strategic and operational leadership.
- Provide expert support and guidance to the CEO on legal and governance duties as a charity.
- Work with the CEO and Chair of Finance and Audit Committee to set agendas and lead on producing papers for the quarterly Finance, Audit and Risk Committee meetings and contribute to Board papers.
- Responsible for management of the organisational risk register.

This is the opportunity to play an influential and impactful role in one of the most important causes of our generation – the climate emergency. Trees will enable 25% of the UK's 2050 net zero ambition and this role sits at the heart of this, supporting one of the UK’s largest woodland creation partnerships, England’s Community Forests.
The Community Forest Trust (CFT) is a charity that supports, enables and champions England’s Community Forests (ECFs). Across England there are 15 Community Forests that deliver social, economic, and environmental impact through woodland creation and restoration. In 2024/2025 they will plant over 2.5 million trees, most of which are funded through Defra’s national tree planting programme, the Nature for Climate Fund Programme.
The Managing Director will have the drive, rigour, and organisational and stakeholder management skills to develop and deliver a new CFT Business Plan. The current Business Plan was developed in 2022 and runs to March 2025. It has now been delivered.
The Managing Director will be responsible for providing the overall leadership and management of CFT and ensure effective governance and compliance with all legal requirements. To fulfil this aim, the Managing Director must ensure that robust structures and systems are in place to deliver CFT’s strategic priorities and CFT’s charitable aims and objectives.
A few key responsibilities of the role include:
- Take ownership of delivering the future direction and shape of CFT and deliver the CFT vision
- Provide organisational leadership for CFT, establishing and implementing business objectives through a business plan
- Work closely with the Chair of the Board, Trustees and staff, building positive working relationships in a constructive and consultative environment
- Manage the agreements (service delivery) with the ECFs with who CFT has a specific and formal arrangement
- Deliver the services and outcomes to the ECF Network, the Forests that CFT supports and those Forests that CFT runs
- Support project development work taking place at local level to support the Northern Forest programme
- Develop and lead funding strategies and write or assist with writing funding bids when required

To be successful in the role, the postholder must have previous senior management and leadership experience gained at an organisation of comparable scale and complexity. ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a talented, creative and dedicated marketing professional to join our small but powerful team to help deliver our new strategy.
As a new role in the hospice’s Fundraising & Marketing Team, the Marketing & Communications Manager will join an existing team of fundraising managers working to maximise awareness and support of the hospice in order to ensure its long-term sustainability.
The postholder will be responsible for the operational management, development and delivery of marketing and communications to support the hospice’s income generation strategy, including line management of the Website Editor and Marketing & Communications Officer, and external agencies.
The successful candidate will be an experienced marketing professional, used to working closely with income generating teams. They will oversee the delivery of a compelling programme of multi-channel communications with the sole aim of increasing the awareness of and support for the charity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing and communications planning, delivery and performance management
- Working closely with the Director of Fundraising & Marketing, develop a clear marketing and communications plan to support the strategies for fundraising, retail and volunteering.
- Implement, monitor and analyse marketing and communications plans and budgets, producing impactful insights and reports to guide our ever-evolving work through all communication channels.
- Develop and maximise the marketing mix, identifying innovative initiatives and working across online and offline channels, to best support the promotion of all income generation activities across the hospice.
- Ensure compliance to industry standards and best practice at all times.

The successful Director of Philanthropy will represent Our Future Health at pitches, fundraising events and meetings with internal and external stakeholders. Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
