We are working in partnership with the Society of Genealogists (SoG), an educational charity founded in 1911, to secure their new Finance Controller. The Supporter Care Manager will ensure that all processes for recording and thanking donations is accurate, timely and meets regulatory and reporting requirements, whilst providing a friendly and supportive donor experience. • Manage the Supporter Care Officers and several Fundraising Volunteers - providing mentoring and training and completing performance and development reviews.

• Work closely with the Database Manager to identify and implement process improvements and where possible system automations.

This is a critical senior role in the organisation, reporting to the CEO. The role is responsible for managing the organisation’s programmes across 3 locations in Sub Saharan Africa and South East Asia, managing 10 personnel. The position provides leadership on community-led investigations and evidence gathering and works closely with the Senior Management Team (SMT) on critical areas including fundraising and strategic development.   

The priority for this role is the safe and high quality performance of projects. The balance between ‘doing’ and ‘managing’ in this role varies depending on available resources for each project, and the ability to create competent teams to delegate to.
 

Location: UK, France or Thailand preferred. Remote applicants considered.

Package: Pay is dependent on location.  The UK salary of £62,000 plus pension contribution will be converted using ICSC scales. All locations receive 28 days annual leave, counselling support and annual wellbeing days.
 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• The development and implementation of strategy and annual plans for the organisation’s direct programming, and its alignment with organisational strategy.
• Responsible for the relevant team’s human resources, staff welfare, safety and security, and risk management. 
• The safety and quality of operational practices including data collection on the ground, secure data storage and transfer and proper financial management of the project including procurement practices.
• Responsible for the relevant team’s financial and spending strategy and financial management.
• Ensuring all aspects of the role’s work advances diversity, equality and inclusion.
• Actively contributing networking, ideas and concept note drafting to the Fundraising Team, with a particular focus on building the project funding and teams that will enable this role to grow and evolve.
• Be a member of the Strategic Planning Team and other strategic conversations with SMT and the Management Team, bringing ideas and challenge to move the organisation forward.
• Coordinate closely with the Senior Director – Innovation where areas of work and organisational improvement projects overlap.

Programmes

• Design and oversee the relevant operations and project workplans, ensuring projects are delivered safely and to a high degree of quality.
• Oversight of project’s design, objectives and goals and their budget.
• Cultivate a management culture that is performance-based, supportive and collegial.
• Provide ongoing support and mentoring to direct reports, including through the annual performance review process. 
• Work with project teams to jointly identify and make available learning and development opportunities for them and their teams. 
• Administrative oversight for projects and their staff, including the review of expenses, annual leave, salary/benefits etc.
• Represent the organisation in relevant areas in relation to programmatic partners such as media, lawyers, diplomats, NGOs and civil society as well as to donors and governments.
• Assist in developing our methodology for investigation and monitoring within projects, including working closely with the Senior Director – Strategy to ensure alignment with the Impact Strategy.

Security and Compliance

• Ensure compliance with organisational policies, safety and security policies and processes.
• Ensure effective risk management for staff and researchers, following organisational policies.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND CHARACTERISTICS

Essential

• Professional writing and speaking in either English or French, with at least effective operational efficiency in the other language (B2 or above).
• Experience managing teams or individuals across multiple international locations.

Training and Education Lead

We are looking for two Training and Education Leads to work for an exciting organisation, one permanent and one parental cover (6 months).

Position: Training and Education Lead (two positions)

Location: London/Hybrid

Salary: £30,000 - £31,500 per annum (pro-rated for parental cover)

Contract: Permanent and 6 months parental cover

About the role:

We have two events-based roles to support our training and development courses. These courses are delivered either face-to-face or hybrid and are often delivered by a team of the organisation’s members. We use tools such as WebEx, MS Teams and Slido to support the delivery. There is an agreed schedule for the rest of 2024 for our public (open) training plus some bespoke, in-house training to be agreed upon with clients. There will also be additional in-house training to be secured for the remainder of 2024 and the first part of 2025.

The role holders will work within our professional development team, headed up by the director of professional development. They will report directly to the director and work alongside other team members to deliver an effective apprenticeship programme.

Our working pattern is hybrid, with attendance in the office expected for three days per week, including every Wednesday. You may also be expected to attend events across the UK and overseas.

Key responsibilities include:

• Support the course working parties including the production of agendas and minutes
• Create booking pages via iMIS and make them live when approved.
• Manage bookings and respond to queries.
• Prepare and distribute course information, delegate packs, learning materials and handbooks as required.
• Organise and attend volunteer Working Party meetings as required.
• Negotiate contracts, attend site visits where needed and finalise contracts.
• Liaise with suppliers, delegates and speakers to ensure all final details are communicated.
• Process bookings via iMIS, including sending booking confirmations.
• Respond to queries from delegates and potential delegates such as queries on their course or programme and progress.
• Ensure that accurate and complete records of attendance and progress are maintained.
• Ensure delegates' and speaker needs are met before and after the course.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will need experience managing events (face-to-face and hybrid) including liaising with speakers and managing the technology. You will be able to work with colleagues to identify and contact potential speakers. You will also be able to manage the budget for the course delivery. To be successful at the organisation, you will need to be able to work in a small team, be flexible in accommodating changing priorities and thrive in an ever-changing environment.

You will also bring with you the following skills and experience:

• A qualification or experience in event and/or learning management
• Experience in managing the delivery of courses and training programmes including course agendas, delegate and speaker support and course administration
• Strong planning and prioritisation skills with the ability to multitask
• Excellent oral and written English
• Excellent Customer Service skills
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills including record-keeping and attention to detail
• Basic financial awareness and understanding for example working to a budget and controlling costs
• Suitability to work with apprentices and vulnerable people including acceptable DBS record
• General IT skills including MS Office (e.g. Word mail merges and Excel reporting). An aptitude for learning new software/portals and experience with customer databases such as iMIS, webinar and eLearning platforms will be an advantage
