Skills and experience:

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a track record of success, who can demonstrate excellent understanding of policy-making and legislative change in an unpredictable environment. They will have significant previous experience of working in a policy role, ideally within a life-sciences or a veterinary or human medicine setting.

Experience of working with central government departments along with an understanding of parliamentary processes are preferable for the role. Equally important is the ability to analyse and critique information, formulate evidence-based solutions and accurately convey proposals to influence outcomes.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, with strong written and verbal skills. They will be able to demonstrate effective engagement skills across a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including the membership. Diplomacy and political awareness will be essential to ensure successful outcomes. Experience of PR and reputation management as part of the policy-making agenda is desirable.

About the BSAVA:

The BSAVA is a professional membership association which exists to advance care for companion animals. At TLC, we support the development of ethical, sustainable living and deceased donor kidney transplant programs, through collaboration with our specialist transplant volunteers from the UK NHS. Through various teaching methods and resources, including travel to partner centres, we empower overseas healthcare professionals (HCPs). TLC is the 'go-to' organisation for fledgling transplant programmes. We achieve this through direct training, transplant missions and observerships supplemented with mentoring, online teaching, resources and support

We are looking for a Partner Centre Project Manager who will manage all aspects of TLC partner projects. The Partner Centre Project Manager will be responsible for delivering the objectives outlined in the strategy and managing the training/mentoring programs for partner centres.

The TLC Team

Transplant Links is a small, flexible, and highly motivated team comprising a CEO, Director of Medical Activities, and Project Administrator. The Partner Centre Project Manager will report directly to the CEO, and collaborate closely with the Director of Medical Activities, working with over 50 NHS volunteers.

The Role

As we have expanded our global reach we need a Partner Centre Project Manager to develop and implement training programs in our partner centres worldwide. Primary responsibilities include project management of partner centres coordinating their training and resource allocation, and stakeholder communication  (healthcare institutions, supporters, HCPs). This involves organising missions, where a team of UK volunteers travels to facilitate living donor kidney transplants in situ. These missions will be led and supervised by the project manager.

The Partner Centre Project Manager also assesses and addresses the evolving needs of partner medical centres, ensuring that the training programs remain pertinent and customised to the specific requirements of partner centres. They will monitor the program’s expenditure within agreed budgets and ensure compliance of the activities and expenditure with TLC policies, whilst also taking the lead on program reporting to supporters. Crucially, they will be responsible for liaising with local program leaders (doctors, nurses and hospital managers), volunteer HCPs from the UK and stakeholders in the field (often Health Ministries and hospital management).

Primary accountabilities include: the completion of missions within a given time frame; abiding by the policies and procedures in place to ensure the safety of TLC volunteers and staff; identifying and managing risks within programs and proposing mitigation strategies; moving each partner centre through the phases of development as per the strategy; assessing prospective partner centres; progress reporting and communicating performance; managing budgets and resourcing requirements

Example tasks include meeting online with partner centres; writing plans and budgets for overseas missions; meeting online with a current or potential sponsor of a partner centre; liaising with TLC volunteers; facilitating meetings with key stakeholders; making in person visits in UK and abroad; working with TLC volunteers to design itineraries for upcoming observerships; preparing performance reports on centre progress and KPI’s

Role Requirements - Candidate Specification

We invite applicants with strong leadership qualities and an appetite for solving complex problems to apply to join our team. Previous experience in successfully managing complex programs within the international development and/or health sectors is needed, and experience working in LMICs would be desirable.

The Partner Centre Project Manager will be expected to work from home on a laptop/computer and to travel overseas to partner centres as needed. They will be working both with other members of the TLC team at times and on their own. UK DBS check will be required

Partnership Manager - Wales

• Ensure core systems are robust, available, and accessible to staff in all locations as appropriate.

Risk Management

• Ensure appropriate and adequate insurance policy acquisition and management needed across the institution and oversee ongoing policy management for adequacy of coverage, renewals, and financial considerations (includes liability, worker’s compensation, travel etc. across geographic areas).
• Oversee health and safety policy and procedures across staff locations and during travel.
• Coordinate business continuity policies and procedures.

Staff Management and Mentorship

• The Director of Operations currently has oversight responsibilities for the following functions:
  • Finance & Operations Manager
  • Grants Manager team
  • GMS System Administrators
  • Human Relations Manager and International Accountant
• Manage relationships with outsourced tax, payroll processing, and legal resources in various jurisdictions.
• Evaluate and evolve staffing structure and skills to support institutional needs and priorities.

Other duties from time to time, as needed.

Subject to prevailing travel regulations and where the final candidate is located, this position may require periodic international travel to the United Kingdom and/or to Hong Kong.

Qualifications

— The successful Director of Operations candidate will likely reflect much of the following profile:

 Essential

• Bachelor’s degree and preferably relevant graduate degree (MBA, MPA or equivalent) or comparable experience.
• At least 10 years senior management experience including international operations and finance responsibilities, with an international grantmaking foundation or non-profit organisation or equivalent. Previous COO, CFO, or equivalent experience desirable.
• International living and/or working experience including in the Global South; familiarity with the complexities of operating remotely and under different jurisdictions.
• Specific experience in leading through growth, infrastructure building, and/or change.
• Cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary in understanding and perspective, and proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team of diverse roles, experiences and backgrounds.
• Experience building an inclusive intercultural environment where staff of all backgrounds and abilities can thrive.
• Extensive background in international operations, finance, grants management, and IT.
• Proven skills in systems and process design and implementation.
• Self-sufficient and comfortable working remotely.
