About the Role
As an Advice Worker, you will ensure individuals and families receive timely, practical support that empowers them to navigate key challenges. You will:
- Provide specialist advice on disability benefits, social care, education, and healthcare services.
- Advocate for individuals and families, ensuring they receive the support they need.
- Assist with applications and appeals for welfare benefits, social care assessments, and education support plans.
- Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, social workers, and educators to provide holistic support.
- Attend BBS Clinics, community events, and outreach sessions to deliver in-person advice.
- Stay up to date with relevant legislation and policies affecting individuals with disabilities and rare conditions.
This is a home-based role with occasional travel across England. Travel expenses will be reimbursed in line with BBS UK policies.
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for a knowledgeable, committed, and proactive Advice Worker with the skills and drive to make a real difference.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Experience providing advice and support to individuals with disabilities or long-term conditions.
- Strong knowledge of social care systems, disability benefits, and education support.
- Experience in advocacy and casework, supporting individuals with complex needs.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and case management systems (e.g., CharityLog).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse range of people.
- Ability to work independently, manage a varied workload, and use initiative.
- A deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with rare genetic conditions.
Desirable Experience & Skills
- Experience working remotely as part of a dispersed team.
- Knowledge of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and experience supporting families with applications and reviews.

About this job
In this role you will be providing emotional support and information to people affected by multiple sclerosis (MS) that empowers them to; live to their full potential, take an active role in their treatment and secure the care and support they need. As part of the helpline team you will also contribute to the overall implementation of the teams objectives and successfully embedding new services.
Our helpline is open 9am – 7pm and therefore this role includes working a shift pattern of 9-5, 10-6, 11-7 or as the service demands.
Please note this is a fixed term 12-months maternity cover contract. This role is full time, part-time hours (28 hours +) will be considered.

Make a Change
Make a Change is a community-wide, early response approach to people using abusive behaviours (or who are concerned that they might be) towards a current or ex-partner. The model has been developed by Respect in partnership with Women’s Aid Federation England, drawing inspiration from their Change that Lasts approach. It includes three strands: expert support programme for perpetrators with parallel support for survivors, workforce development and community outreach.
Improving the safety, freedom and wellbeing of adult and child survivors of domestic abuse is a key outcome for our work with perpetrators. The Make a Change model is a multi-partner project offering local areas a framework for delivering perpetrator work. Where feasible, we aim to establish partnerships with local survivor domestic abuse service to deliver parallel support for survivors (referred to as Integrated Support Service) as part the expert support strand.

Pregnancy Options Centre (Options) are seeking a Fundraising and Marketing Officer to raise funds for our counselling and education services: supporting people in crisis or distress around unplanned pregnancy or pregnancy loss experiences and educating the next generation on matters surrounding sexual health and healthy relationships. The post-holder will be responsible for raising funds from grants/trusts applications, and for developing and maintaining donor relationships. They will also take the lead on marketing the charity through social media, publicity and our website.
Pregnancy Options Centre provides free, non-directive help and support to anyone facing an unplanned pregnancy or struggling following an abortion or pregnancy loss. We offer a safe, non-judgemental environment where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings surrounding their situation and experiences. Alongside our counselling service, our Education project delivers interactive workshops to young people on topics surrounding healthy sex and relationships, self-esteem and the three options following an unplanned pregnancy: abortion, adoption and parenting.
Fundraising and Marketing Officer Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising and Finance:
- To carry out and contribute to the fundraising strategy
- Write comprehensive and compelling funding applications to Trusts and Foundations, tailoring them to meet a range of criteria
- To research and develop new funders to support the achievement of fundraising goals
- Build, nurture and maintain positive relationships with current funders, corporates and donors by stewarding them well.
- Ensure grants are acknowledged promptly and reporting requirements are met within agreed timescales

You will have a commercially-minded yet mission-driven approach grounded by experience in managing a supporter or sales pipeline, and of prioritising prospects to deliver the best return on investment. We would expect you to be comfortable with the need to achieve income generation-related targets. Dementia Carer Support Service
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £24,901.50 pro rota
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, days to be confirmed (occasional evenings and weekend working outside of the above hours in response to the requirements of the service)

The Role
They have a permanent position within Birmingham Team, for a specialist support service for carers of people with dementia in Birmingham
This a local service for family carers, offering a range of services including information and advice, support groups, carers assessments, training and an emergency back-up service.
The job purpose:
- To be a key member of the Carers’ Hub team, by providing specialist information, support and advice to carers of people with dementia.
- Developing relationships with Carers groups City wide.
- Engaging in the registration and assessment of carers of people with dementia to identify unmet need and improve knowledge, skills and life opportunities around well-being, access to training, education and employment.
- To be part of a streamlined pathway for carers of people with dementia across health and social care
Key Responsibilities
- To act as first point of contact with the aim of identifying carers of people with dementia and registering new carers by entering personal details onto the electronic database in compliance with confidentiality, data protection and other relevant regulations
- To provide statutory carer assessments to registered carers of people with dementia, following the agreed model of a comprehensive conversational assessment with
- specialist dementia assessment in the home environment or another venue
- To work and develop relationships with carers groups across the City
- To provide ongoing support to carers of people with dementia, linking with other services and groups
- To offer, provide and undertake home visits where requested
- To attend and offer service at outreach venues
- To support carers of people with dementia through quarterly support groups
- To support carers to access the Neighbourhood Networks Scheme and develop stronger links and referral pathways with GPs and other health stakeholders.
- To update existing customer information and carry out regular reviews of carers and to update action plans agreed with the carer
- To work closely with partners and initiatives such as PCNs and social prescribing, bereavement and pre-bereavement support, dementia carer support groups, dementia carer navigator service, memory assessment clinics and dementia carer training providers
- To support carers of people with dementia to access assistive technologies

Skills and Qualifications
- Skills, knowledge and experience in advice provision to carers and a relevant qualification in dementia care
- Detailed knowledge of wellbeing issues, benefits and services affecting carers of people with dementia
- A good understanding of the needs and requirements of carers
- Ability to maintain substantial, detailed information systems including case file management
- Good skills with information systems include advice and information database systems.
- Ability to relate to, communicate and empathise with people from all different kinds of backgrounds and cultures
- Excellent understanding of team working relating to both inside and outside the organisation
- Excellent Customer Service skills with the ability to be completely patient and understanding

Macular disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK, with around 300 people diagnosed every day. The Macular Society is the only charity determined to beat the fear and isolation of macular disease with world class research, and the best advice and support.
To support people affected by macular disease now, the Macular Society provides a range of support, information and services. Our research programme is focused on finding new treatments and a cure to Beat Macular Disease forever.
This role focuses on raising funds, recruiting new donors and engaging existing donors, with particular emphasis on challenge events. The postholder will work closely with the whole Community & Events Fundraising team in driving income, identifying opportunities and stewarding our supporters.
The postholder will also help to identify opportunities for income generation and donor recruitment including digital and social media. They will liaise with the Community & Events Fundraising Manager to help to forecast each year’s events income and participant numbers. They will also be aware of current fundraising trends and keep up to date with best practice and comply with relevant legislation.

Job purpose
To support and deliver effective communications, including marketing and digital engagement activities, which raise awareness of Dementia Carers Count and foster connections with our community of carers, campaigners and donors. Your work will help us reach and support more carers, raise funds and campaign for changes which will ensure that no dementia carer feels isolated, invisible or alone.
Key responsibilities
•Understand our cause, linked issues, and how these are publicly perceived
•Horizon scan to spot social and news trends as well as potential influencer targets
•Manage our social platforms, keeping abreast of media and public zeitgeist about our cause and related issues. You will design and deliver paid advertising campaigns and monitor, respond, share, engage, comment on posts, according to our guidelines and with responsibility for reputation management
•Share audience insights with colleagues to ensure effective stewardship of all our defined audiences
•Support development of media relationships. You will curate press and media lists and respond to media queries, with shared out of hours responsibility.
•Draft statements and press releases and pitch ideas for articles and features, developing copy as needed and tracking coverage
•Support user-led story telling as part of content creation, including interviewing carers about their experiences and identifying opportunities to share carers’ voices in our materials
•Draft website copy and develop assets for digital use and printed materials which communicate our key messages and brand and which support specific campaigns
•Review and monitor evaluation and reporting metrics to provide regular and campaign-based management information relating to the success of digital and media activity
•Support effective cross-organisational internal communication
•Adhere to all relevant legislative and regulatory obligations relating to marketing, digital and communications
