Shannon Trust are delighted to be working with His Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS) to provide peer-led literacy and numeracy programmes across a number of prisons.  We now have the opportunity to provide a service at HMP Belmarsh (subject to contract award). Working closely with the prison and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will lead the delivery and development of our literacy and numeracy programme at HMP Belmarsh, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read. 

Teaching qualification Level 2 or above is required for this role. Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach. 

This role will be prison-based. About the role:

This role is based in our Islington office with the flexibility of hybrid working. As a Children & Young People's Caseworker, you will:

• Conduct needs and risk assessments to ensure each CYP receives an individual support package that meets their needs, including safety planning, advocacy, emotional & practical support.
• Provide one to one support to children & young people living in families affected by domestic abuse, managing a caseload of approx. 12-15
• Regularly review the assessment of risk ensuring appropriate action is taken, making referrals to MARAC and local safeguarding processes
• Consult & involve children & young people in making decisions about themselves & service developments
• Establish links with relevant statutory partners in Social Care, Education, Health, Police and Housing, attending meetings as required

You will need:

• Experience working directly with vulnerable children & young people aged 4 - 17, on a one to one basis, with a proven ability to engage these clients through creative & appropriate methods
• Knowledge of risk assessment & taking appropriate action to safeguard as required
• An understanding of the issues for children & young people experiencing crime, domestic abuse and relationship abuse
• Ability to work with both internal & external stakeholders
• Effective organisational skills, able to prioritise effectively whilst maintaining accurate & confidential case records
• Strong written & verbal communication skills

About this role

Working in ODI’s Public Affairs and Communications (PAC) department, the Digital Communications Intern will support the digital team with producing and marketing content for ODI’s core digital channels – spanning the website, social media and newsletters.

The internship presents a fantastic opportunity to get experience of working on different aspects of digital communications, with a particular focus on writing and dissemination.

Tasks will include drafting social media posts, helping to produce digital assets, compiling newsletter content, proofreading, and identifying opportunities for content development and promotion. Providing day-to-day support for the digital team, you will also gain hands-on experience of the ODI website’s Content Management System, among other products.

We are seeking a dynamic and efficient Events Manager to deliver a world-class and sector-leading portfolio of annual events to support LSHTM’s Strategy to both internal and external audiences.  Events are diverse and include graduation ceremonies for students, conferences and lectures for academics, policymakers and funders, as well as internal community social events. ABOUT THE ROLE:

This newly created role will be responsible for defining, shaping and implementing key processes and systems related to programme management, and overall business operations including finance. These processes will enable us to streamline our business and support the needs of our companies programmes and funding requirements.

In addition, this role will be responsible for overseeing our facilities management and internal operations to ensure we are compliant and have H&S at the heart of everything we do.

What you will be responsible for:

• Be responsible for all aspects of the management, development and maintenance of SCA Port Hope building, site and its external premises. 

• Ensure statutory inspections and routine checks on health and safety and security are scheduled, undertaken, accurately recorded and, where appropriate, and reported in a timely fashion. This includes fire and security alarm systems and equipment, any others that are relevant. 

• Liaise with relevant authorities in the management of the site and buildings eg the Environment Agency, Birmingham City Council etc as required. 

• Manage the provision of services eg insurance and utilities, working with the Executive Director to undertake due diligence and secure competitive quotes. 

• Oversee the company’s compliance with all legislative and contractual requirements. 

• Commission and manage relationships with all contractors working within the buildings and external premises, including maintenance as required.

• Plan the delivery of all capital works to the building with the production manager (funding pending) 

• Act as a key-holder and be on call should issues occur out of hours. 

• Ensure procedures and processes are followed to protect the security of the buildings and site. 

• Work with the freelance staff to ensure they have the appropriate training on Health and Safety, First Aid, Manual handling etc. 

• Prepare required reports and recommendations for Team, Board and funders as required. 

• Manage operational contracts such as refuse collection, etc.

• Lead on the organisation’s Health and Safety Strategy, including provision of adequate first aid and fire safety. 

• Oversee and ensure implementation and communication of site and operational risk assessments.

• Ensure compliance with all legal obligations and licensing requirements including: Public Entertainment, Health and Safety, PAT testing etc. 

• Take a lead on SCA environmental responsibility, ensuring SCA seeks to reduce its carbon footprint and we operate as efficiently as possible, including waste disposal, disposal of used areosols, recycling schemes and reporting of such to funders. 

• Advance planning of production schedules in conjunction with the Studio Assistant to ensure that events can be set up in good time.

• Ability to support a variety of configurations of our multi-purpose space with some basic technical knowledge.  Specialist training will be provided.  This will include audio visual display equipment, basic sound systems, setting up multi party Zooms, seating and desk configuration.

ABOUT YOU:

• Experience of managing the maintenance and operation of buildings. 

• Knowledge of safety and workplace legislation and experience of managing and delivering a policy and activity eg risk assessment writing and review. 

• Experience of setting and managing budgets and financial projections to ensure best use of resources through prioritisation and planning. 

• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload. 

• Self-motivated, practical and flexible with a positive outlook and can-do attitude. 

• IT literate, with experience in using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. 

• Interest and/or experience in technical delivery 

• Willingness to be part of an on-call rota, and to work flexible hours including some evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.

About the role:

The fundraising team raise approximately £400K annually and aspiring to grow by over half a million by 2025. The Head of Fundraising & Events will contribute to the growth of upReach through the raising of significant funds; you will have oversight of income generation from various sources including major donors, individuals, trusts & foundations and a portfolio of events. The role will suit innovative individuals with significant experience of fundraising from major donors and at least one of the other specified income streams, and event planning.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Head of Fundraising & Events will support upReach's mission by meeting financial targets, recognising when to make the fundraising ‘ask’ and leading the annual budget process. You will use clear, creative written communication to produce convincing cases for support, represent the charity at relevant networking events, work closely with the upReach Development Board and act as an ambassador for the organisation.

Reporting to the Director of Income Generation and External Engagement you will manage three direct reports and support individuals participating in the Future Charity Leaders Programme (upReach’s graduate scheme). You will work closely with  the CEO, Programmes and Finance teams and colleagues across the income generating and external engagement team.

The core responsibilities include: 

Leadership and strategy 

• Lead income generation to realise financial targets in line with the overarching strategy, personal responsibility for securing 5 and 6 figure gifts. 

• Provide leadership and inspire staff and volunteers to excel and achieve, champion the upReach values and defined Leadership qualities.

• Commit to the annual appraisal process, including deadlines and develop stretching, SMART OKRs (objectives and key results) to meet our strategic goals. 

• Deputise for the Director in their absence and play an active role in the Leadership team.

• Lead the strategic and operational planning process for the functional areas of responsibility and ensure the involvement of relevant stakeholders. 

• Keep abreast of developments, changes in trends and patterns, new techniques and legislation. Take responsibility for own professional development.

• Ensure planned activity is delivered in compliance with relevant charity law, other legislation, best practice and corporate policy.

• Act as a senior sounding board to ensure strategic decisions regarding donors and funders resonate with our objectives and mission.

• Contribute to strategic thinking including risk management and mitigation.

• Collate and present timely monthly management reports for each income stream.

• Lead the annual budget and financial forecasting processes to facilitate reporting and  strategic-decision making.

Working with stakeholders (internal and external) 

• Collaborate with colleagues in the income generation and external engagement team to identify and secure all various income generating and profile raising opportunities, ensuring maximum impact and contribution from funders. 

• Lead, champion and model a culture of outstanding donor stewardship and supporter care; including best practice and behaviour. 

• Develop and foster effective relationships with key external contacts at all levels, e.g. donors, supporters, suppliers. 

• Make the fundraising ‘ask’ as and when appropriate, or support others to do so.

• Respond promptly to requests for information and action from supporters.

• Report and disseminate the key issues to emerge from supporter feedback. 

• Manage the complaints procedures for the department and conduct full investigation of all complaints received by the department.

Developing, maintaining systems and procedures 

• Determine and manage the operating systems needed to deliver activity and enable effective donor, supporter and volunteer relationship management. 

• Effectively develop the donor journey.

• Ensure records in the CRM are up to date.

• Conduct analysis of data from across functions responsible for, drawing conclusions, making recommendations to the Director. 

• Ensure the management of systems and processes comply with the organisation’s data protection obligations, charity law and other legal requirements.

People Management and Team Working

• Recruit and lead the Fundraising & Events team, rotatees and volunteers as required.

• Ensure upReach promotes a high performance culture and professional integrity.

• Continue to develop the skills and knowledge of you and your team to ensure you are up-to-date with changing regulation and fundraising best practices.

• Lead and champion the implementation of business improvement and people development initiatives including training and rotations.

• Collaborate with colleagues across the department and organisation.

Major Donors and Individuals

• Develop and implement fundraising strategies to grow income.

• Nurture relationships with donors including high net worth individuals maintaining the highest level of donor care.

• Research, identify and engage prospective donors to secure 5 and 6 figure gifts.

• Lead the team on increasing donors numbers and gift income.

• Develop a legacies strategy and oversee delivery of awareness campaign.

Events

• Oversee the delivery of a sector leading events portfolio, achieving 5 and 6 figure income targets and building a pipeline of future activity.

• Lead the team on the delivery of multiple and complex events and activities at the same time including the Student Social Mobility Awards (SSMA’s).

• Engage, steward and motivate key stakeholders including the Development Board, potential event committee members and other high value volunteers to grow our network and deliver successful fundraising events.

Trusts, Foundations & Corporates

• Oversight of Trusts, Foundation & Corporate fundraising strategy.

• Work with the Senior Fundraising Manager to identify and build relationships with Companies, Trusts and Foundations which are mission and/or programme aligned.

• Support the acquisition of new, multi year funders and existing donors.

Other

• Regular out of office work may be required in order that the organisation is able to deliver on its commitments to its stakeholders

• Some UK travel will be required from time to time

We have a great opportunity for a Special Events Lead to play a vital role in an exciting charity’s Philanthropy team, reporting to the Co-Director of Philanthropy.

About the Role

The Special Events Lead role manages the organisation’s special events from start to finish, raising the visibility of the charity, building relationships with prospects and securing income for the Children’s Hospital and the Cancer Hospital.

They will be responsible for project management and professionally executing the organisation’s special events. Past events have included a fundraising gala for 500 guests at Trinity College, a private reception at a jewellery designer’s studio and a behind-the-scenes tour of robotic surgery at the organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

• You will take lead responsibility for the operational management and delivery of several Special Events, from dinners and receptions to larger flagship events.
• Create a portfolio of events that will engage a variety of supporters and prospects.
• Develop a yearly events plan for prospects and donors with consideration of cross-team requirements.
• You will manage relationships with volunteer organisers of major special events; not organising the events themselves but being the key point of contact and providing support e.g. income management, marketing support via the comms team, Gift Aid and best practice advice.

• Maintain good relationships with committee chairs and committee members where events are being organised by volunteers.
