The Plumstead Almshouses Charity has successfully provided homes since 1896. We operate twenty apartments on the edge of Plumstead Common where our residents express satisfaction with the services provided.
We now need to use our strong finances to expand. We are seeking someone with property development expertise to join our Board as a Trustee. As well as leadership in residential property development, it would be a bonus – although not essential – if candidates were to have accomplishments in any of the following fields:
1. Philanthropy – attracting substantial donations to build more homes
2. Charity governance
3. Construction

It’s important that our Trustees and Non-Executive Directors reflect the community that Devon Air Ambulance serves and bring different experiences and backgrounds that add a huge amount of value to our organisation. DAA has been through a significant period of change in the past few years with becoming a Care Quality Commission regulated independent healthcare provider, welcoming a new H145 helicopter and three critical car cars into service, an organisational restructure, not to mention of course a pandemic that impacted every aspect of our organisation. We continue to plan for growth and development of our service with exciting plans for a new HQ and operations centre that are in the early stages of development.
We are looking for people who can support our journey, be critical friends and help shape our organisation to be fit for the future. We would also like to receive Expressions of Interest for the Chair of the DAA Trading Company Board. Additionally, DAA is particularly keen to have Trustees or Non-Executive Directors who can bring the following areas of expertise: pre-hospital or emergency care, clinical governance, leadership, organisational development, fundraising, property development, finance and environmental sustainability.
It is essential applicants are familiar with or able to learn how to use Microsoft Teams and standard MS Office software to a reasonable level.
What can a Trustee expect from Devon Air Ambulance?
- Training – our Trustees receive an induction and then a phased training programme including governance and finance training. Some training may be role specific.
- Trustee Buddy – you’ll be paired with one of our experienced board members who can offer guidance and support.
- Skills development – you can expect to develop the following skills in your role as a Trustee: critical thinking, strategic planning, good governance practice, charity sector, aviation and health service provider experience.

The Bar Standards Board, the independent regulatory body for barristers in England and Wales, is seeking new lay and barrister members.
The Bar Standards Board (BSB) is the independent regulator for barristers and related specialised legal services businesses in England and Wales. We exercise the regulatory functions delegated to us by the Bar Council in line with the regulatory objectives laid down by the Legal Services Act 2007. The primary role of the Board is to ensure that we act in the public interest in accordance with those objectives. To that end, we set education and training requirements, establish and maintain professional standards, authorise organisations, and deal with questions of professional misconduct. We are governed by a Board of 11 members, made up of five practising barristers and six lay people, including the Chair.
We seek to appoint two lay Board members and one barrister Board member who will work with others on the Board to lead the organisation through a time of far reaching change in the legal services market and its regulation. Over the next ten years, barristers in England and Wales will continue to face major challenges. These include levels of public funding, changing consumer demands and expectations, and technological advances. The BSB must ensure that its regulation is risk-based, proportionate and agile in a changing legal services and regulatory landscape. It must also seek to promote equality and diversity at the Bar.
To meet these challenges the Bar Standards Board itself is reforming to become more proactive and consumer-focused in its approach to regulation and more efficient in its delivery of its regulatory functions.

We are looking for talented individuals to join the Board of Trustees at the Ecology Centre; an inclusive, community-led charity in Kinghorn, Fife that connects people with nature for the benefit of both.

The London Basketball Association (LBA) provides sustainable and regular participation in the sport of basketball whilst aiding and encouraging a variety of career paths for young people living in London’s most deprived and isolated communities.
What is LBA looking for?
The London Basketball Association is pleased to announce that an opportunity has arisen for a Board of Trustees Chairperson to join our intensely committed organisation.
The Board of Trustees Chairperson is a pivotal role within the organisation, tasked with holding the Board and Executive Team to account, to ensure the Charity hits its mission and longer term strategic visions. This is achieved by providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. The Chair will also support, and, where appropriate, challenge the CEO and ensure that the Board functions as a unit to achieve agreed objectives.
Time Commitments: The Board of Trustees meet 6 times per year [bi-monthly]. Meeting may be held either in person and virtually. We are recruiting for a complementary mix of skills within our trustee board. Whilst a passion for animals is crucial, we are also looking for a diversity of skills such as general business management , finance, marketing, Legal, IT, HR and H&S etc, if this is you, we would love to hear from you.
Your role as a Trustee will require working in collaboration with your fellow trustees, staff and volunteers to ensure our branch continues to deliver our important animal welfare work.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a bi-monthly committee meeting lasting around 2 to 3 hours (virtual meetings are an option). However, the commitment may vary depending on your availability, and if you decide to take on additional duties.
Trustee do not need to live within the branch boundaries but occasional travel to Branch sites may be required from time to time.

About the RSPCA Preston & District Branch
Over 80% of the animal welfare work of the RSPCA is carried out through local Branches which are run by staff and volunteers, supported by the RSPCA National Society.
Preston & District Branch has been affiliated with the National RSPCA for 150 years!
A separately registered charity looking after animals in the local area and engaging with the local community.
Our mission is to seek out safe homes for abandoned, neglected or abused animals who are nursed back to health, rehabilitated and found forever loving homes.
Preston & District Branch is part of a network of 140 branches, and 1 of only 8 in the North of England with an animal centre.
The rehoming centre is within the Preston area (close to JCN 31 of the M6).
RSPCA Preston & District Branch is a well established Branch with approximately 20 members of staff and 75 volunteers across 4 locations and raises all its funds locally through supporters and other income streams.
To continue helping animals in need the Branch also operates 3 charity shops in Longridge, Chorley and Penwortham (within our specified branch area) which bring in a regular income to keep our animal centre open.
Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee
- Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
- Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.
- Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
- In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
- Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting.
- Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support local initiatives.
- Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
What we are looking for in a volunteer:
- Ideally you would have some level of knowledge in the following areas-
- Financial, Human Resources, Health & Safety backgrounds or legal; Marketing communication including social media, PR, website;
- Fundraising including corporate fundraising, trust fund and grant applications;
- Local community and supporter relationships; Project management, business development
- Awareness of employment and/or charity legislation
- General management or business administration
These all can be useful to help ensure we have a sound and robust business model and long term strategic development plan, however, they are not essential.
We are looking for people who are creative, innovative, who have experience of or are part of groups and communities we want to attract, who can bring new ideas, different experiences and fresh perspectives to the board and to help put those ideas into action.

Ultimately we are looking for someone who is committed to the RSPCA’s charitable objectives and shares our passion for animal welfare.
You will need to be able to work with people and have good interpersonal skills. You do not need to be an expert although commitment, common sense, and the ability to be objective are vital.

Practical considerations
- Please also note that to become a Trustee, you will need to be aged 18 or over and a member of our branch for three months before you are eligible to be elected at our AGM.
- Trustees are elected for a 12-month term each year.
- Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
- Trustees must sign a Trustee Declaration of Willingness to Act to clarify that they are not disqualified from being a trustee and read the Charity Commission’s guidance for individuals who cannot be a trustee or senior manager of a charity.
- References will also be required.

We are looking for a Chair who shares our ambition to ensure adequate and consistent funding for organisations that support women and girls. Founded in 2008, our work focuses on the key issues affecting women’s and girls’ lives including violence and sexual abuse, reproductive rights and health, poverty and economic inequality and mental health and recognises the connections between them. Evolve Counselling is a long-established charitable social enterprise, providing low cost, affordable or funded mental health counselling to adults in Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Our professional counselling community is made up of 50 – 60 qualified self-employed practitioners, working part-time to deliver talking therapies both online and in person.
We deliver around 500 counselling sessions per month to a broad range of individuals, many of whom would not otherwise be able to access therapeutic support. Evolve also provides supervision, reflective practice, critical incident support, and mental health awareness and related training to organisations and businesses large and small.
We are in the early stages of developing ambitious growth and innovation programmes, so this is a perhaps the most interesting time to be part of Evolve since we started in the 1970s. Opportunities for new Trustees to make their mark are considerable.
What We’re Looking For:
We are searching for an experienced HR specialist who can support our board, committees, and the CEO as we move through our next strategic stage of consolidation, then growth. Although long-established and successful, Evolve is reshaping itself and your HR expertise will be instrumental in positioning our charity to successfully meet the ever-growing demands and opportunities for supporting good mental health in our communities. Please note, a background in counselling is NOT a prerequisite for this role. Training will be available in general charity governance and in specific areas such as charity finance.
Your skills and knowledge, whether gained in the charity or commercial worlds, in a corporate HR Department, or a specialist consultancy, will help us to plan and “do the right thing” for our small staff and our self-employed counsellors, as we grow.
Including quarterly board meetings, committee sessions (at present virtual), a face-to-face AGM event, away days, and regular meetings with our CEO and the trustees, we anticipate a flexible time commitment of around 0-5 hours per month

Trustee Time Commitment
Each Trustee is expected to be able to dedicate sufficient time to the role. We estimate that Trustees commit on average 8-10 days a year, not including travel.
Terms and Compensation
The Trustees serve a three-year term, and will be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Trustee roles are not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although Board-related travel expenses may be claimed.
