Action Village India (AVI) is a small UK based organisation that since 1989, has been supporting Indian partner organisations who work alongside villagers in some of the most remote parts of rural India so they can improve their lives, livelihoods and resilience. At the heart of our work, are our partnerships; many of which have spanned decades.  Our partner organisations are led by Indians and whether these are large or small organisations, or social movements, all work directly at the grassroots level across rural India – from Bihar and Jharkhand in the North, in Odisha and down to Tamil Nadu in the South. We accompany our partners for the long term, solidarity with our partners and their communities is at the core of how we work. We are not governed by donor funding cycles and agendas but are led by our partners and the needs they identify and are committed to shared learning and collaboration. We keep our UK costs to a minimum with core staff and rely on an active and engaged set of Trustees, volunteers and supporters.  Both staff and Trustees of Action Village India have relationships with staff from our partner organisations, created through ongoing dialogue, partner and community visits and participation in learning forums.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Fundraising and Partnerships Manager

Job Purpose: To develop fundraising proposals and raise funds from trusts and foundations. To raise funds for Action Village India through our trading activities and events.

Reports to: Executive Director

Salary: £30,000 pro rata

Hours:21 hours per week (equivalent to 3 working days) – ideally including Wednesday and Thursday.

By agreement there is an option to work an additional 11 events days over the full year. This is related to WOMAD and our other events. This is revised annually based on the agreed workplan.

Location:Dalston, London (5 Balls Pond Road, N1 4AX)

Contract: Permanent, pending a successful 6-month probationary period

Annual Leave: 25 days (pro rata)

Pension scheme: Action Village India provides access to an auto-enrolment pension plan through the Pensions Trust for all staff who have completed 6 months of satisfactory service with 3% employer contribution.

FUNDRAISING

1.1 Fundraising Management and Donor Liaison:

• In line with Action Village India’s project funding priorities, research and develop fundraising proposals for new and ongoing projects to be submitted to major donors, trusts and foundations as well as other appropriate sources.
• Keep up to date spreadsheets and databases tracking donor deadlines, the status of applications and reporting deadlines.
• Ensure that material from partners for monitoring reports is developed as needed and work to ensure that reports are submitted as required and to agreed deadlines.
• Support the Executive Director with fundraising and reporting to individuals and trusts.

1.2Events

• Plan and manage, in collaboration with the Action Village India team, the events for the year
• Attend Action Village India fundraising events (evenings and weekends as agreed with the team)
• Attend WOMAD festival and support the Action Village India team with the successful running of the Action Village India stall and presence at the festival.

1.3 Individual Giving

• Planning and delivering our regular appeals and engagement communications.
• Develop new ways to engage our supporters’ base and grow income from Individual Giving products.
• Build engaging journeys to retain existing supporters and develop more supporters.

1.4 Communications and Development Management

• Create communications content that inspires supporter engagement and promotes loyalty.
• Contribute relevant material and content to Action Village India newsletters.
• To design and produce communication materials – Annual Report and Appeals
• Supply project information to support appeals to individual donors, and at public events including WOMAD; co-organise the exhibition at WOMAD.
• Work with partners to generate engaging communications and marketing materials about the progress of their work, including visual content.
• Work with partners to generate material on which to base awareness-raising and educational work in the UK, where appropriate.
• Manage the creation of the organisation’s content, for example, leaflets, webpages and annual reports.
• Work closely with the Communications and Administrative Assistant to support the creation of social media content and other customer relationship material, ensuring this feeds directly into the Communications Strategy.
• Support the Executive Director in monitoring and assisting with formal progress reports to funders, and any other work based on the organisation’s requirements.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EXPERIENCE

• Ideal minimum of three years proven experience in fundraising from trusts and foundations, events and individual giving.
• Proven experience in writing project proposals and reports for funders.
• Proven success in raising funds from trusts and foundations in the UK, working alone or perhaps as part of a larger fundraising team.
• Experience co-organising events and fundraising activities.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

• Knowledge of Trusts and Foundations and institutional fundraisers particularly in the UK.
• Knowledge of the international solidarity and development landscape and/or familiar with funder processes, databases and requirements.
• Knowledge of Charity Law, Data Protection, Fundraising Code of Practice and other relevant marketing or fundraising standards in the UK.
• Ability to produce high quality written project proposals, narrative and financial reports and communications materials for a range of audiences.
• Ability to absorb, filter and re-present information for new audience

PERSONAL QUALITIES

• A passion to support humanitarian activities that benefit the most vulnerable.
• Excellent communication skills: presenting complex information clearly, concisely and persuasively.
• Proficiency in using Excel.
• Ability to stay focused and efficient in the face of changing priorities and multiple demands.

FOODBANK TRUSTS & CORPORATE FUNDRAISER –

The Oasis Hub Waterloo team are currently looking for a Foodbank Trusts & Corporate Fundraiser to raise much-needed funds for our Waterloo Foodbank and other strategic partners.

The successful applicant would be responsible for writing funding bids for trusts, and also developing relationships with local businesses, to increase our unrestricted corporate income.

Some of the duties of this newly created role include:

· Research and identify potential short- and long-term funders from among grant making trusts and statutory bodies.

· To prepare written applications in co-operation with and on behalf of Waterloo Foodbank projects and ensure suitable budgets are prepared.

· Develop relationships with corporate organisations that align with our values and vision that would be open to an approach for financial support.

The successful applicant will also need to demonstrate:

· Proven successful experience of fundraising.

· Understanding of the statutory and grant-making funding sector.

· Experience of researching and developing targeted proposals for presentation to prospective supporters.

· Experience of fundraising from corporates.

· Excellent written skills including writing persuasive copy for funding proposals.

About Black Thrive 

Black Thrive Global (BTG) evolved from the work of the Black Thrive Lambeth Partnership, established in 2016. We exist to address the inequalities that negatively impact the mental health and well-being of Black people so that the thriving of Black communities is the norm. 

Our guiding principle is that Black communities should be at the forefront of reimagining, redefining, and co-creating a society where systemic racism and other oppressive systems have been dismantled so that they have fulfilling lives. We have two priorities – building a Black Thrive Research Institute and embedding race equity in systems change. 

Purpose of the role

We are looking for an experienced and creative Communications Manager to take on a key role in our rapidly growing organisation. As Communications Manager, you will lead all aspects of our communications and marketing activity with key stakeholders and with the general public. You will be developing and implementing the organisational Communications Strategy which will increase our profile as an organisation, maximise our reach and impact, and raise awareness of the vison, mission and aims of Black Thrive Global. 

Working closely with the Directors, the CEO and the staff, you will create a compelling, coherent and consistent narrative that joins up all our communication channels, key messaging around core BTG work, and plan strategically for key dates linked to activities and events corelated with our aims and mission. To do this, you will work with staff across our organisation and with the communities we represent to increase our engagement with the general public and key stakeholders. Our communications will be both reactive and proactive and the post holder will provide quick responses to emerging media stories. 
 

Duties and responsibilities 

1. Oversee Black Thrive’s communication activity, co-ordinating that activity and planning for all communications channels, including website, social media and external newsletters. This role includes marketing Black Thrive to different audiences to raise the profile of the organisation in support of its strategic aims. 

2. Deal proactively with media enquiries, maintain the media database and log enquiries, monitor media coverage. 

3. Implement effective external communications strategy to develop a consistent and coherent narrative for Black Thrive; amplify and support the work of the organisation among the general public, potential strategic partners (including but not exclusive to academics, community partners and local decision-making bodies); and provide clear goals around communication and brand awareness. 

4. Evaluate and monitor communications activity – developing KPI’s in line with our Communications Strategy, and ensuring the information is used to build on success and to develop strategy and outputs.

5. Lead on the management and delivery of the communications calendar. 

6. Manage and lead the Communications Team staff. 

7. Work with the Black Thrive staff team (and with external agencies as appropriate) to develop and maintain website content and upload website content. 

8. Implement a social media strategy that is integrated with wider team projects and ensure consistent messaging is shared across all platforms. 

9. Work with the Directors and staff team to support proactive and reactive media relations and social media output. 

10. Work with the Directors, CEO, team members and freelance staff to manage and coordinate the production of Annual reports.

Role Description

The Project Manager is an adept and organised professional, esteemed within the nuclear policy community for their level. Responsible for overseeing a discrete package of work, they must demonstrate a clear understanding and alignment with broader programme goals, strategies, and objectives. The role will report to the Programme Manager.

Taking charge of project deliverables, the Project Manager will navigate the entire project cycle, from generating fundraising ideas to developing them further and building knowledge of funding relationships. The Project Manager should possess a solid understanding of global security and conflict resolution, coupled with a proven ability to design, and execute high-quality project management and research. The ideal candidate is an established researcher with a specialisation in nuclear weapons issues, in particular the Non-Proliferation Treaty regime, and an emerging track record of policy relevant publications. 

The Project Manager will kickstart and manage BASIC’s new project: the Nuclear Transparency Index (NUTRI). The Nuclear Transparency Index (NUTRI) will be an online index maintained by BASIC that will assess the transparency of all States that possess nuclear weapons (both those recognised by the Non-Proliferation Treaty and those that are not). Looking at nuclear transparency in its various aspects, the index, using a series of metrics, will enable ranking and comparison of changes over time. The Project Manager will need to apply creative thinking to the development of a transparency framework, and strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess the implementation of each metric by the states under review.

The Project Manager should also possess the skills to promote their work at relevant multilateral forums, expand their network in their area of specialisation, benefiting BASIC, and be capable of line managing other team members within their project. 

This role necessitates a formal project or programme management qualification – BASIC will provide the Project Manager with such training and qualifications if they do not already possess one. The Project Manager will collaborate with their line manager to identify a professional development plan, closing skills gaps and aspiring to become an internationally respected leader in their field.

Role Requirements

Essential Criteria for the role

• Educated to Master’s level – or demonstrate the equivalent in work experience

• 7+ years of work experience in a think tank, research institute, NGO, foundation or government working on international security issues

• Demonstrated ability and track record in leading the creative development and delivery of policy projects to a high standard, in the UK or internationally, including budgeting and reporting

• Passion and commitment to our organisational mission of promoting dialogue to advance global security

• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders from a variety of professional and cultural backgrounds and with broad variations in seniority and function

• Excellent analytical and methodological skills, and an organised approach to research

• Well-developed interpersonal skills, including evidence of working successfully as part of a team

• Strong track record of previous fundraising experience and success

• Experience organising policy roundtables and workshops

• Willingness to travel internationally when required

• Strong organisational skills and an eye for detail

• Good personal network in their research area

• Previous line management experience

• Formal programme/project management qualification

Reporting into the Assistant Director of Finance and managing a team of three, this role will be responsible for the day-to-day management and control of the Financial Reporting function within the group. This will include providing direction and hands on support in all things budgeting, forecasting, statutory accounts, business partnering and monthly management reporting, whilst also offering exceptional scope for project work and process automation.

The key duties of this role are as follows:

• Production of the group’s budget in consultation with budget holders.
• Preparation of monthly management accounts in conjunction with budget holders to ascertain required explanations / proposed actions.
• Preparation of quarterly financial reports for the Executive Management Team and the Board, including a meaningful analysis of variances to budget and forecast.
• Lead on the preparation of Annual Statutory Accounts and being a key point of contact for the external auditors.
• Oversee timely submission of the regulatory returns.
• Work closely with the Financial Services Manager on finance system development and enhancements.
• Oversee provision of proactive and value-added finance business partnering services to operational teams.
• Lead, motivate and support the Assistant Management Accountants and Finance Business Partners to provide a professional and high-quality customer focused service

The successful candidate will have:

• Qualified as an accountant with five years’ post qualification experience.
• Proven experience of competently producing budgets, forecasts and management accounts.
• Proven ability of producing statutory accounts and leading the annual external audit.
• Experience of managing staff, including setting objectives and monitoring performance.
• Proven ability to build relationships and work effectively with the wider finance team.
• Ability to produce concise information and analysis to support decision making.
• Experience of working in a medium-sized or large organisations in the social housing or property sectors.
• Strong verbal, written and presentational skills, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels.
