Job description

We are seeking a Coordinator to deliver our Choose Geography programme of work.

Coordinator – Choose Geography
Location
: Kensington, London
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full Time
Salary: £34,288 - £37,150 depending on experience and qualifications

Attendance at the Society’s office in Kensington, London is a requirement for a minimum of two days per week (usually Monday and Tuesday, but days may vary depending on event commitments) and additionally as required. Working from home on other days is possible with agreement from the Manager: Educational Professional Support. Full-time remote working is not available for this role. Some travel, in the UK, will be expected.

The Role

This is a new role within our established Education Team, and it will focus on working with schools and teachers to promote geography as a useful and relevant subject to study, and provide guidance and support for school-based geographical careers education and progression through GCSE, A Level and on to university.

This is an exciting opportunity to take forward the Society’s work in this area in a new and innovative way and will involve extensive work across not only schools but also into higher education and the professional geographer community.

The role is ideally suited to someone with a good understanding of working with schools and teachers, who understands what teachers want and need from careers education support and can work effectively with external stakeholders to ensure opportunities are made available to all. The person in this role will have a good knowledge of the types of career areas that geographers work in and will understand the ways in which the higher education and professional communities can contribute to careers and progression support in schools.

The Society

The Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) is the learned society and professional body for geography and geographers. It is also a charity and a membership organisation. The Society was founded in 1830 and has been one of the most active of the learned societies ever since. It was pivotal in establishing geography as a teaching and research discipline in British universities and continues to play a key role in geographical and environmental education.

There are a range of benefits at the Society which include the following:

  • 35-hour working week with core working hours between 10.00am and 4.00pm.
  • Flexible working arrangements are available with a mix of office based and home working.
  • 25 days annual leave per annum, pro rata, plus public bank holidays.
  • Society closure between Christmas and New Year, in addition to the basic annual leave allowance.
  • Pension scheme - 3% employee, 7.5% employer.
  • Group Life Assurance at four-times basic annual salary.
  • Corporate eye care vouchers.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Free 24-hour Employee Assistance helpline with available counselling support

Closing date: noon on Friday 4 October.

Interviews will take place on Friday 11 October at the Society in London.

We intend to notify shortlisted candidates within a week of the application deadline.
