YEF’s Commitment to Race Equity

Children from Black, Asian and other minority backgrounds are significantly overrepresented at all stages in the youth justice system. Black children are four times as likely to be arrested as White children. And, as of May 2019, more than half of the children in youth custody were from Black, Asian or other minority backgrounds. Clearly, there is a problem – in the criminal justice system and our wider society.

The Youth Endowment Fund’s mission is to prevent children and young people from becoming involved in violence. Because of this disproportionality, it is clear that if we don’t challenge the role that racism plays in young people’s experiences of youth justice, education and access to employment and mental health support, we won’t be able to make the difference we’re here to bring about. This means that – both as an employer and a What Works Centre – we need to make sure that we are considering the impact on children from Black, Asian and other minority backgrounds in our decision-making.

We know that we won’t have all the answers and that we’ll make mistakes. By being transparent, we want to share what we’ve learned, where we’ve gone wrong, what we think we are getting right and what we are working on improving. We’ll work with our existing grantees, future applicants, our partners in local authorities, policing, education, youth work and central government and – most importantly – with the young people who have experienced violence. We want to be challenged, to work together and to use your suggestions on how to improve.  

Race Equity in YEF’s research and evaluation  

As a research organisation, we have a duty to make sure that we fund projects that build evidence on how we can reduce racial disproportionality across public services. We also need to make sure that our evaluations improve our understanding of what works for children from Black, Asian and other minority backgrounds. 

A key challenge in achieving this goal is that at the moment, in England and Wales, evaluators and researchers are disproportionately White. There’s a lack of lived experience of racism, which affects the design of evaluations and other kinds of research. For example, both the economics1  and psychology2 professions, which represent two major contributors to the evaluation community have demonstrable issues in ensuring diversity in both graduates and professionals. This creates recruitment challenges both for YEF and for evaluation teams. 

Last year, we built a pool of consultants that we pair with members of our evaluator, researcher, and project delivery organisations to advise on the race equity implications of their research designs. We are now looking to add to this pool of consultants.

Adopting a race equity perspective in research and evaluation can include activities such as the following: 

1. Landscape Assessment: Understanding the historical and political context in which the research study will operate and provide opportunities for stakeholders to share their perceptions of the apparent issue or topic. 

1. Design and Data Collection: Carefully choosing a study design and data collection methods that promote equitable outcomes.

1. Data Analysis: Orienting qualitative and quantitative data analysis toward uncovering root causes. 

1. Dissemination: Devising a comprehensive dissemination strategy that considers the language used, stakeholders as the key audience, and actionable results.

Who are we looking for? 

Race equity consultants will work alongside evaluators and researchers commissioned by YEF. We hope this will achieve two interconnected objectives: 

• To support YEF in embedding a race equity perspective in all its research and evaluations. 

• To increase the diversity of researchers contributing to the design and execution of YEF research and evaluations.

We are interested in applicants from a range of sectors, including research, academia, funding, government, and community engagement. 

We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants who have practical experience of informing and especially driving race equity within evaluations and research. Whilst we are interested in hearing from people with a broad range of perspectives on evaluation and research, experience of working on impact evaluations such as randomised control trials and quasi-experimental designs would be an advantage.

Applicants can be freelancers, sole contractors or working as part of organisations, provided they can commit to a minimum involvement of five days on any evaluation or research project they are commissioned to support.

In summary, we are keen to hear from individuals or organisations with experience of some or all the following: 

• Experience and proven track record working to improve racial diversity, equality, and inclusion within research and evaluation contexts.

• Experience of carrying out research work with racialised communities. 

• An understanding of the historical and political context in which the YEF’s research and evaluation work operates. 

• Experience of charitable grant-making in the UK, either as a grantee, a grant-maker, or a grant evaluator.

• Ability to work independently, seeking input from relevant team stakeholders throughout.

• While not a requirement, we do encourage applications from individuals (or individuals within organisations) with Lived Experience of violence.

CCLG is the UK and Ireland’s professional membership association for all health professionals working in paediatric oncology or teenage and young adult oncology. Main purpose of the job

This role will be responsible for providing a range of support, including administrative support, and coordinating activities across our research programme. You’ll provide support to a range of activities including our Research Strategy Groups, research networks, lived experience engagement in research, and our research funding processes. About the Role

• Proactively liaise with supporter facing teams to ensure clarity regarding upcoming selections and potential overlaps between audience groups
• Use this knowledge to champion the supporter’s interests during the planning and development phases of any and all campaigns
• Working with customer teams, produce accurate inclusion queries to extract data.
• Understand and maintain accurate suppression queries to ensure our compliance with both our legal responsibilities and the best practices expected by our supporters.
• Manipulate data exports to ensure consistent formatting and structures before releasing the selection to our internal stakeholders
• Perform quality control tasks on data selections to ensure accuracy before releasing the selection to our internal stakeholders

 
To succeed in this role, you will have: 

• Considerable experience of working with the Raiser’s Edge database with a demonstrable understanding of the single customer view
• Excellent understanding about how data can be used to drive a variety of disparate income streams with different audiences
• A track record of delivering multi segment data selections accurately and on time in a dynamic working environment
• A clear and demonstrable understanding of data protection regulations and other regulatory frameworks
• Sound understanding of direct marketing practices
• Experience of providing database training and documentation to users
• Excellent organisational skills with a logical and investigative approach to problem solving

Job Purpose  

To develop and manage your own portfolio of existing trusts, community and individual donors, and research and prioritise new opportunities ensuring high quality stewardship to secure ongoing support. This role will focus on producing high-quality applications and reports to funders and by providing excellent account management and cross-team collaboration.     

Responsibilities  

Trust Fundraising  

• Develop, manage, and maintain a trust fundraising portfolio with a clear, scheduled pipeline of funding applications, coordinating opportunities and team resources to meet targets. 

• Cultivate strong working relationships with current and new trust and foundations, proactively seeking meetings. 

• Collaborate with colleagues to create compelling proposals and reports.

About NUM: 

National Ugly Mugs (NUM) is an award-winning charity with a mission to ‘end all forms of violence against sex workers.’ NUM provides a mechanism for sex industry workers to report crimes and harm they experience and share this information within their communities to warn others of potentially dangerous individuals and situations.

We have a dedicated casework team of industry experts who support sex workers to further access criminal justice remedies and other services as determined by victims/survivors to cope and recover from crimes they experience in the ways they choose. We also host a range of other projects in racial justice, mental health, drop-in support (Scotland), and vocational exploration.

About the Team:

The NUM Case Work Team NUM’s mandate is to ‘end all forms of violence against sex workers’ and operates under three key principles: Sex Workers’ First, Quality Support, and Learning and Innovation. The NUM Case Work team offers victim support to prevent and heal from violence to adults of all genders involved in sex industries. The postholder will provide support to NUM members and non-members who identify as having experienced harm and violence during their work. Services are provided digitally and online, and in-person services.

The post is part of a unique partnership between National Ugly Mugs, POW (Nottingham) and Basis Yorkshire, to ensure more specialist support for sex workers who have experienced sexual violence, to develop good practice guidelines, and to develop and share learning that will influence change in health inclusion for sex workers. Each organisation will be employing a SWISVA; the program will be led by a Program Coordinator, who will be based with Basis Yorkshire, who will lead on policy development work.

Person Specification:

A successful candidate should have the following experience:

• A minimum of 2 years’ experience of working with women who face barriers to accessing support services such as health housing and the criminal justice
• Experience and understanding of working in accordance to core safeguarding legislation to support victims of sexual violence
• Experience of supporting sex workers
• Experience of multi-agency partnership working including with partners such as the police and SARC
• Experience of working in a complex environment, actively managing risk and following case management procedures to meet the needs of a diverse and vulnerable client group
• Working with a range of stakeholders and partnership working or strategic networking, spanning voluntary, leadership and women’s sectors, including delivering presentations

Are you a caring, compassionate person with the skills and enthusiasm to make a difference to individuals living with dementia and their carer?

The role is based in St Helens and the co-ordinator will be expected to work at sites across the town and the surrounding area. The role involves planning, organising and running a range of activities, outings and events at different sites. Excellent administration, planning and time management skills are required.

You will visit people who are living with dementia and their carers and offer a person-centred approach to signpost them to activities and support that is available in the area. You will work closely with the Trust’s Welfare Officers, Admiral Nurse and external agencies.

You will be expected to identify areas for development within the service and to have a good knowledge of dementia services.

You will carry out regular reviews of the service to ensure it meets the needs of the people the service supports.

The role will involve recruiting, supporting and training volunteers to assist with activities.

You will manage expenditure within an agreed budget.

Key requirements for the role

· Applicants should hold or be willing to work towards the Certificate in Dementia Care or Awareness in Dementia at a            minimum of level 2. NVQ 2 in Health and Social Care would be an advantage.

· Applicants should have a minimum of 12 month’s experience of working with individuals with dementia.

· Ability to use Microsoft Office, Outlook and Excel.

· A full clean driving licence and use of own car is essential. Expenses will be paid for business mileage.

· An enhanced DBS check.

· Two satisfactory references.

· Completion of a satisfactory workplace medical.

YMCA England & Wales is a unique organisation: We blend an immediately recognisable national profile alongside our support, development and representation of 85 local YMCA’s, ranging from small community-based organisations to nationally relevant specialists.

You will bring influence with key decision makers through our campaigns and policy positions. You will support YMCAs policy function and drive a range of public affairs activities to engage and build relationships across Government, Parliament and the Civil Service. You will also provide a full range of public affairs advice and support to the YMCA Federation.

We will hire a strong communicator, both spoken and written; you are able to create accurate and informative communications to persuade and influence a target or audience. A skilled Fundraiser you will be able to develop and execute fundraising activities and cultivate relationships, all while offering support in fundraising that aligns with the strategic priorities outlined in our fundraising plan.

As a specialist in corporate partnerships, you will report to the Head of Fundraising and contribute to supporting children's and adult social care services.

We’re looking for someone who has;

• An undergraduate degree in a related field or NVQ Level 3 or 4 in related field.
• Demonstrated experience in corporate partnerships and/or fundraising, with a keen interest in cultivating partnerships. 
• Adept at communicating confidently and professionally, both within the organisation and with external parties.
• Proven track record of meeting financial targets within a fundraising or sales context.
• Full clean driving licence with access to a vehicle.

Your role as a Lecturer:

• Provide excellent delivery, teaching and course leadership to learners across Ambitious College

• Prepare and deliver schemes of work, lesson plans, assignments and assessments in line with departmental and awarding body requirements
